Imagine when Serena watched the match highlights to see that BOTH of her winners in the LAST GAME were 100% DIRECTLY on the line. Must have driven her insane.
This match and that bad calls that went against Serena Williams way back in 2004 is the reason why we have the jumbo screen display replay challenge system.
Yup ! Exactly ! It's also being copied by others sports like volleyball, etc.
but classy in defeat, Serena
And a madass Serena
No it's not. Your delusional, you people act like she is the first player to get bad calls. Go to a live match and try to call the lines on real time. It's impossible to get them right. How many times in every match do calls get reversed. She lost get over it.
@@Hammerton32 classy is not in that women's vocabulary
Jennifer treated this win like she’d won the whole tournament. She was definitely gonna have a let down for the next match.
Yeah it looked as if anticlimax started as soon as she won
The last times she ever played the queen 👸🏾🎾🎾🎾karma in full effect bitch lol
And if she’s been a good sport, the call heard around the world would’ve gone to Serena.
It’s funny how Capriati says ‘I just want to thank the crowd for supporting me’ she really should have added ‘and the lines judges and umpire for letting me win’...
Say it louder for the back I don’t think we heard you !!!!
She has no shame! She'll take the lie, cheat and steal...
Totally agree. The match was stolen from Serena.
@@moshameem99 into porn? Huh???
Capriati cheated
Considering the injustice, Serena took the loss quite well.
What do you mean? Capriati gave her an old fashion a*s kicking!
Pianoplayer. I agree. I’d be completely livid. The backhand down the line was one of the worst calls ever and I need to look back but I thought Jen won that game. It did impact the outcome to some degree. The other 2 balls were on the line and while it sucks to get the call wrong, you can at least see why they were difficult calls for the lines person. These two hit the ball really hard, relatively flat and it was a night match. I wonder who would have won without the bad calls? It’s impossible to know.
I forgot how many times she was robbed. She would prolly already hold the most titles had she been treated fairly throughout her career. She went through all the best players at one point and is still going strong. Noone can hold her down.
Totally agree. Serena was treated unfairly probably more than any other player in history.

"Treated Unfairly"...
Like how?
🤣🤣🤣
Play the black victim card 😂😂😂
This has to be some of the worst line calling I've ever seen! Terrible! Serena was robbed at least 4 points: disgusting calling. I'm glad Serena has gone on to become one of the best players of all time. She will win 24 slams, and retire at 25 slams if she can do it.
I wonder if there were consequences for the umpire.
Who knows? But either way it was shocking - one was inside the line, very odd.
That umpire was RACIST and she may have been paid off.
@@christofeles63 She was removed from any remaining matches at that tournament. Idk if any other penalties.
She’s done this to Serena since she was a teenager. She’s a Russian racist and you can tell when she was interviewed about this
Serena has had to face not only her opponents, but also bad lines people and Umpires for 20 years. Thats why she is the GOAT. When John McEnroe tells you its the Worst line call he has ever seen, you know its bad!
reg man That applies to everybody so nobody is GOAT 😏
Jax Jet Naah
Jax Jet Tennis is a lot more diverse now and there are quite a few tennis playees who have won more than 10 slams
@Jax Jet I'm also waiting on this response, unless they mean between male and female. Even then, most of the women who had more than even 3 slams don't even play anymore. Kim Clijsters had to come out of retirement. If we consider doubles champions as well, then more women have won at least 2 slams. Otherwise? Hardly ANYONE else other than Serena and Venus
You shouldn't have to fight your opponent, the linesman, and the umpire. What terrible officiating and shitty job from the tournament.
Glad Capriati lost in the semis. She didn't deserve to win this match at all. Serena lost 3 points that were clear winners at crucial moments, two of them in the final game of the match.
She should have won against Dementieva,.
@@p.g.4881 capriati had thee worse luck at the open.. she loses to dementieva for the 1st time ever, and in fact, had never even lost a set to dementieva, loses to seles back in 1991 after serving for the match twice in the 3rd set, losing to a cramping henin in 3 tight sets, when she was leading the entire way until the end..
Oh Please.....what was Capriati supposed to do, ask the Umpire to replay those 3-4 points? Tell me when Serena did that before they started the Challenge/Jumbo display. If Serena had stayed this lean she would've won a few more GS.
3 points out of a entire match is your reasoning why capriati didn't deserve to win? yes, those 3 points were all wrong, but that doesn't account for the entirety of the match, in the end, looked like even serena agreed at the net handshake with jennifer.
These three points were shown to us. We dont know yet how many of capriatti's out balls were called in those days. And how many of serena's closed balls were just called out. These three were avtually the ones which were clearly in and were called out
This is the match that I lost a bit of respect for Capriati and then it was all downhill from there. This is the most despicable match I’ve ever seen, but I’m not surprised it was the open. Serena always gets bad calls there.
I was just thinking as I got down to your comment...despicable.
Totally agree. Poor Serena, how much matches were stolen from her?
@@doksh5740 OH, Serena was repeatedly cheated throughout her matches, especially in the U.S. But stop with the "poor" Serena bs! She's the G.O.A.T. She couldn't be stopped. So if she wasn't cheated, image what her stats would be!
And tennis associations are still cheating her and she's not even playing! WTA combine Court's Closed Era and Open Era stats for most grand Slams and then promotes Serena chasing those stats. However they combine MEN'S closed and opener stats!
M.Court only has 11 Grand Slam wins SERENA HAS 23 GRAND SLAMS! She long since dusted Court's stats!
During the reigns of Everret, Navratilova and Graf, you never even heard of M.Court...
her father was gross as well.
Yes, I used to root for Capriati before in their matchups because I felt bad for her that she kept on losing to Serena. But then she finally wins one in such a disgraceful fashion and I lost all respect for her and gained respect for Serena for how she handled this situation. Then Capriati went completely crazy after she had to quit the game.
This is one of the most notorious matches in WTA history with two of my favorite players. Soooooooo many ridiculously bad calls and it's the reason that Hawk-eye became a requirement in grand slam matches. It's a real shame too becuase it was a really good match and Serena basically won it.
Serena lost it as always nowdays🤣😅😂😈😈😈 stop telling me about racism.
@@789uio6y She never “lost it” lol. You only pick out a few instances in over 1000 matches played to make your pathetic points. And where do I mention racism in my comment? Boy you people just can’t help yourselves 😂
@@789uio6y You obviously didn't see the match. And why the knee-jerk racism comment? Are you a racist, and very sensitive about being called out, even when nobody but you mentions it? Weirdo.

I always liked watching these two play each other and I was super proud of Jen for fighting through to win the 2001 French (even after beating Serena in the QFs there) but this match absolutely made me dislike her.

@@JamaalABivens Ironically, not the first time something like this happened to Serena...there was also the infamous Henin hand up incident while Serena served, which Henin denied after the fact. Respect level for Henin went way down that day. She later publicly said she regretted that. Whatever, Justine.
Serena was mugged on this night. I was disgusted by Jennifer's cheap comments after trying to justify the blatantly bad calls against Serena. Glad Dementieva beat her in the semifinals.
Capriati probably hooked her opponents often in juniors. As a pro she worked the crowd, the lines people, and the umpire. She's a bully and a drama queen who manipulatively played the victim.

Serena got robbed here, but she got the last laugh after winning the most GS in history.
Margaret Court has more single GS titles...
@@robertbraga8886 Excactly Serena is disgrace.
Imagine, if there was hawkeye for this game, she would have had her goal 24 GS by now. The workers on the court that day were dishonest. Those were all clearly in or clearly on the line...replay wasn't even necessary...
Without her screaming and howling, which was taught to them by their father for the Only reason so as to frustrate and annoy their competition (and it worked), both Williams' would Not have won a handful of their slams early in their slam-winning careers. While it was not technical, it was surely and without question virtual and reasonable cheating. Serena is no goat nor boat. Steffi Graf is, followed by Navratolova, Court, Evert, then maybe Serena. The Williams' are cheaters, not to mention the peds/roids.
+Markus E If loud grunting/screaming was the only reason they had such success, then why hasn't Sharapova surpassed them?
"Just goes to show how great life really is you get second chance after chance after chance." Three second chances, three ridiculous line calls.
In any case, this was Capriati’s last chance. She basically never played again after this tournament (just a couple of minor tournaments in the fall of 2004).
1999-2010 is the best era for women tennis
And Capriati said nothing???!?! This is crazy 😭
Well done! She is amazing white woman!
And people why Serena had meltdowns later on? Chile please!! Serena u are the absolute greatest!

This was tragic line calls. I didn’t remember that my god
Thank God I wasn’t even out of my mom’s WOMB in the time of this match cuz if I was there ANYHOW I would loose my fckn COOL I swearrrrr
I watched that match live on TV and I knew then that Serena was robbed. This is when it was accepted to hate the Williams sisters - but we now know who our tennis Queens are and have been for many years, and Serena is not done yet. She will eclipse Margaret Court's slam record, deservedly so.
To be fair Jennifer played great that night too, but we'll never know who would've won that night had the umpire and biased lines people not made crap calls.
She didn't get Courts record. So she is just a princess and not the queen.
Did the Ref ever explain why she did that? A complete and utter disgrace...
This was the WORST ever. If I was Jennifer, I would have never excepted this win. Three points and more they took from Serena and gave it to Jennifer...WOW!
Lol. It happens in every tennis match. The human eye can't track the ball at that speed. I am sure Serena has benefited from bad calls in her career. I love how people who have never played know what playing is like. The don't purposely make mistakes. You have to be good enough to overcome it
She got out played that day.
Serena let Capriati in this match in the first game of the second set. That totally changed the momentum, and then the debauchery happened. She should have won this in straights.
Sorry, but the blatant CHEATING contributed more to this match going to that cheating Capriati.
No, she should not have been cheated! That's the only "should" We should be mentioning! Because the "fat lady" hadn't song yet, and Setena had been know to hold the acore and pass right by to victory!!!
Capriati wasnot deserved a respect and a huge from Serena at the end. As a professional player, she knew the balls were good, but she chose silence to win those points. Very shamed
In the next round, Capriati lost to Elena Dementieva.
In yet another third set tiebreak in the semifinals of the US Open. It gave me such joy.
Bad calls even out over time. Maybe Capriati lost to Dementieva or another match due to bad calls.
Capriati should have went big on Sportsmanship here but she did not care...Players should have protested this event on Racism and sat out the next year...US Open should have been ashamed of themselves
Not everything is racism guy. Shit happens, when that same shit happens to black people it’s a racist thing. Remember the white pitcher for the Padres struck out Tino Martinez and the ump called it a ball? Then the next pitch was a grand slam?
@@fralf4381 it is true that mistakes sometimes happen in sports. However, when those mistakes are frequent and directed at one single player, in our case Serena, then you start to wonder!!!!!
@@doksh5740did Serena get more bad calls than any other player? Where's the evidence? This match had some egregious calls against Serena. But that happens to every player at some point in their career. There were also calls that went against Capriati that were shown to be in in this match. Which other matches did Serena get terrible calls? What evidence is there that it happened more often to her?
No way... cud not watch past the 8:36 bad call bullshit... I can recall watching this in rt
I have never forgotten the name of this Umpire, Mariana Alves, she overruled a call in the 3rd set calling Advantage Capriati instead of Deuce. That's when i knew something was wrong with her
This is one of the great women's singles matches. I was astounded at how hard both Jennifer and Serena hit the ball when I watched them live in Hong Kong around that time. Question for this match is, we will never know who would have really won the match if it had been fairly called.
I believe Serena would have won the match if it was fairly umpired.
I doubt the umpiring in this match was any worse than most matches over the past decades. Just ask John McEnroe 😂
Apart from that ridiculous call at 8:16 it was nothing out of the ordinary, to be honest.
Being a linesperson ain't easy.
I lost all respect for Jennifer Capraiti after this match. You knew them calls were GOOD and didn’t even try to have INTEGRITY. Im happy she ended up losing in the semis. This was a time when White Americans didn’t want a Black Female dominating on their own. Serena and Venus were the biggest threats to the game and they didn’t want to start supporting them UNTIL they realized, they were all American Tennis had...THAT COULD WIN!!
Jennifer Capriati couldn't have done anything to reverse the bad calls.
They accepted Gibson during the 1950s.
I never understood why the umpire was not banned for life after this match?!?!
because she's an immigrant... immigrant privilege. it's disgusting.
I'm guessing the chairwomen was bribed to make sure Capriati don't lose.
No telling how many many of them over 20 years which is why I back Serena when she gets angry about this cheating and discrimination she has faced in tennis. Its real. Very sad. #SerenaTheGoat
Bad sportsmanship by Capriati, she lost a lot of fans this match.
like SERENAMAN fans
Capriati interestingly enough saw her balls were in when they landed on SERENA 's side, but she couldn't see SERENA 's balls land squarely In right in front of her face?! So much so that the very fact that Capriati swung at them proved they were squarely IN. I say as McEnroe commented,"THIS IS RIDICULOUS!
That lines-person should have been instantly replaced. Also This Chairperson had demonstrated on more than one occasion bad calls against SERENA.
"YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!" SERENA should've exclaimed.
Capriati was a cheater. She did Not win fairly. Everyone knows SERENA IS THE GOAT...HAD to be and this particular match proved one of the many truly reasons WHY. SERENA AND VENUS HAVE had to be better.
Get a fucking life
No she did not: she gained fans. Only bigots went against her.
Yes, i remember of this match and starting from the match between Capriati and Dementieva in the semi, i bigan to support Elena Dementieva
Serena got the last laugh with the most GS titles in the entire open era. Only Steffi is closest.
Willie Jones Yeah no one cares.
Jr D Lmao 🤣
Willie Jones: Serena? Serena Williams is a cheater like cyclist Lance Armstrong it is! Serena Williams is the result of drugs, steroids, and cheating in the court like the match against Capriati in Wimbledon 2003, against Lindsay Davenport in Australian Open 2005
Serena Williams never won a championship grand slam without cheating and doping!!

This is a Serena Williams highlights compilation it's a shame Capriati isn't shown more. Nobody could go toe to toe with Serena like Capriati. She has as many highlights in these matches as Serena, and outslugged her on occasion. This match is two heavyweights bludgeoning the ball every point the fact they are women makes it even more awesome for me These matches are among the best tennis had to offer in my lifetime.
Agree
You're stupid............ the only game Jennifer won was this one....... the one the umpires cheated for her. Justine Henin, Amelle Mauresmo and Kim Clijsters were Serena's true competition. Serena went on to win 23 trophies and Jennifer went on to become a cocaine addict. You FN moron. You know nothing about either player.
A "fake news" type of UA-cam video. These kinds needs to be named or renamed as example: "Williams points compilation" instead of labelling it the name and time of the event. Misleading.
Exactly , they played 17 times, Capriati won 7 and most were three setters or very close, except the 2004 Wimbledon QF: Serena won 6-1, 6-1
Serena the Best of all times!
This match is one of the reasons we have a challenge system today. Because we cannot rely on the honesty of players, such as Capriati.
This is the hottest Serena has ever looked on a tennis court. Loved that denim skirt!
The best she ever looked and played. I mean, does anyone think Serenea would have lost to Dementia and Kuznetsova? This should have been an easy title for her. She was outright robbed. Glad Cap went down to Dementia in the next round and her career went into freefall afterwards. Tell Karma we all said hi, JennyCap.
@@LiamForeman Serena started that match on fire and was on her way to an easy win. Then the worse officiating in the sports history reared its ugly head. 2004 was a tough summer for Serena, losing to Sharapova at Wimbledon and then this...ouch. but she did look good!
This match was so weird. I still think the chair umpire screwed the score up and then instead of just admitting it, claimed she overruled the ball. That doesn't explain all the bad calls in the last game though...
I had no idea about this match, i'm chocked *o*. I mean they literally stole this match from Serena.
Really?? Stole?? When LeBron James goes to the hole and a defender jumps at him but does not touch him and he makes the shot and the ref calls a foul what happens?? He takes his ass to the foul line while the opponent bitches to the ref. He doesnt turn down the free throw. Jesus.
The lines call was unfair against Serena. If it was turned around, who knows, Serena could have won.
For me...Serena is THE WINNER..
That's the only reasons why Capriaty never won this SLAM even she reached the semis many times...
Imagine this in 04, then get called for a foot fault in 09, then called a hindrance in '11, then accused of coaching in '18. And thats just at the USOpen.
The hindrance call in 11 was correct, the umpire HAD to call that.
To those of you who doubt SERENA IS THE GOAT , THE MORE HIDEOUSLY NEGATIVE THINGS YOU SAY ONLY SERVE TO PROVE EVEN MORE THAT SHE IS THE QUEEN...IN FACT THE WILLIAMS SISTERS HAVE NOTHING TO PROVE.
EVERY TIME YOU UTTER YOUR VITRIOLIC NONSENSE, YOU PROVE : THE TRUTH DOES NOT NEED US TO SUPPORT IT...IT STANDS ALONE.
SAD THAT IN SPITE OF THE OBVIOUS, SOME PEOPLE STILL SEE WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE AND NOT BE REAL(SERENA vsCapriati, case in point).
BUT IT'S TOO LATE,
ASK SERENA'S
FELLOW PLAYERS AND THEY ARE HONORED TO PLAY HER AND KNOW HER AND NEEDLESS TO SAY HOW MANY YOUNG LITTLE GIRLS, WHETHER BLACK OR WHITE ADMIRE HER.
SERENA , IS IN A CLASS ALL HER OWN. AND THE MORE YOU KEEP TRYING TO DISRESPECTFULLY SPEAK OF HER , THE MORE YOU CONTRIBUTE TO FACT THAT SHE'S THE GOAT. LETS KEEP HISTORY REAL.
Graf: 22 slams out of 54. Serena 23 out of 74. Proportionately, there is no comparison. For every slam Serena has won, Graf has won 1 and 1/2.
What happened to the line judges and referee after the match?
Americans wanted the next chris evert, not the williams sister
really miss watching 2 powerhouses like these 2 who knew how to pound a ball!
I'm no expert at tennis, I only recently started playing, but I was told about this match and it really looks like Capriati was getting some serious aid from the line judges
Then Jennifer Capriati went on to lose to Elena Dementieva by a score of 6-0, 2-6, 7-6(7-5 in the semi- finals of the women's singles September 10, 2004, at the 2004 US Open in New York.
Serena looked great in this outfit. She was very fit, and her outfit is one of the most exciting and classiest outfits that she ever wore. Plus, she got robbed in this match. She had the right to be so angry.
this was the moment when i stopped being jennifer capriati's fan. i remember being happy when she lost the next match
This is where i stopped hating on Serena, i realized ppl hated her for no reason, same as i did, just because she was too good and my favorite players stood no chance against her. I liked Capriati but after this i just didnt care about her anymore. Those wrong calls on so many key points...

\
Not really Capriati`s fault officiating team was dreadful on this occasion. She wont correct a called that went in her favour just doesn`t happen in any competitive sport.
Actually, there are many examples where it does happen. When you have bad sportsmanship, it doesn't. If I'm not mistaken, in the next match when the umpire accidentally called a point in favor for Capriati and corrected himsel, Capriati got pissed saying that the original call should stay. That's just plain cheating.
Capriati is a piece of shit! And self centered
That’s some crappy line calls late in the match
What a ugly win. Karma can be such a b*. Capriati never appeared in a GS semifinal after that, and Serena will go down in history as being the most prolific GS winner in tennis history.
I hate it when people do that to me at tournaments.... At a super competitive level, these bad calls would just ruin my vibe/game. They should all just get rid of all these lines people and let Hawkeye decide the whole match.
Yep. You start questioning your coordination and your preparation. I'm used to hitting within six inches of the lines. It's a MUCH different vibe when you feel you have to hold back even when you know your balls are in. When you are just aiming for one to two feet from the lines, you aren't playing your game. At least this match brought us Hawkeye, thank god.
There is nothing worse in tennis than bad line calls. What makes me sick about this match is Jennifer clearly saw the ball in, why not give Serena the point. I have seen that happen several times in professional tennis. The chair umpire did not need to have the last say. I play tennis all the time, and the right thing to do first is be a good sportsman, if you see a ball out or in call it so, even if it doesn't help you to win. Sometimes one point does make a difference in a match, especially if you thought you won the point.
Whether it's Jennifer, Kim Clijsters, Maria, Simona, Andrescu, hell even Roberta Vinci...That New York crowd will always support their White princesses no matter WHAT NATIONALITY when Serena is across that net...
For a home Slam, Serena has earned EVERY ONE OF THEM...
Brian Taylor she has earned every one. But I have to say the NYC crowd is now very pro Serena. I’ve been the last 10 years. The crowd is Federer level nuts for her and it’s a good thing, I say that being someone who generally thinks the same thing you do.
@@JamesFrew1
I agree that it has changed. ..But only because she is at the doorstep of greatness... As soon as an up and comer starts winning... The crowd changes their allegiance...
That is NOT TRUE.... I've gone to the US Open to watch Serena play in many matches and I was the loudest one cheering for her every time!
Way too tempting not to race bait, wasn't it?
Serena Williams isn't my favorite WTA player or anything but oh my god she got robbed blind this match! Matches like these are a go-to argument for why Hawk-Eye is a necessity.
Now that I look back at this match I'm wondering why the replay digital point was only available on TV for us viewers to see and why not from the empire's chair as well?? I guess it probably wasn't approved to be on courts or whatever but this match was ridiculous!!!!
The tech existed but there was no official replay system to challenge calls. This match is why Hawkeye was officially made part of officiating.
The buck stops with the umpire - if the line judge makes an error, it's their duty to correct, and these calls were so bad that any umpire worth their salt would have corrected and awarded the point/ replay.
Wild how Capriati retired not long after this while Serena dominated the game for another 16 years or so
that ball was so innnnnnnnnn...pity for Serena..she become tobe victim of bad umpires...
And always at the US Open.
@@ricobhi more so than ANYWHERE else.
She won that game anyway...???? It's not true.
Yeah, what the hell?? She lost the game AND the set after that bad call. She should have had advantage, and if the next point had gone the same she would have won the game.
you know capriati will lie cheat and steal to win a match
I had admiration and respect for Capriati until this match. I am sure she knew that the line calls were wrong, but she said nothing. She is a cheat.
Here I did not agree with Jennifer Capriati winning, she was given many points stolen from Serena and all because of the bad refereeing, especially in the background judges. Nowadays, none of them should exist, due to their inefficiency and not having a good vision to see a bad ball. In semis, the witch of Capriati was defeated by the Russian Dementieva. 🤭🎾👌🏻
When she went “no no no no no” that was so powerful 😂
Well….. the Linesmen and umpire were
100% trying to make it easier for Capriati to win.
The ball was inside the line.
Lmfao.
Inside the line! Serena won this match, playing wise.
Why they never show that 2nd serve that Capriati hit out but was called in? If I remember correctly it was also in that last game and the score should’ve been ad Serena but Capriati ended up hitting the overhead winner. If you listen at 16:31 , you can hear the crowd like murmuring and one of the commentators about to say something. In the long version, they actually show the shot spot replay of the 2nd serve being out. Can we get that in the edit just to drive home the overall point?
That was another egregious call too. It's like they went into the Twilight Zone in that final set.
The two greats
I could not believe that they hired this woman Mariana Alves to be the chair umpire of a Grand Slam. I mean, to be selected as the selected one umpiring a tennis match in a huge stadium like this, one must be extremely professional at doing this job (like Eva Asderaki) , competent in every single decision, their credibility must be exceptionally good, because by umpiring a match means the person assigned must be really quick thinking, with a clear decision making skills, and most importantly a laser like vision as sharp as an eagle. I have to say, when i saw Mariana Alves here, i feel like she's not doing a great job for a reason, either she was sleepy or unwell, maybe she was having some personal problem in her life that caused as an issue, or maybe she just wanted to play dirty by making 4 ridiculous calls because she has something against Serena or she might have been paid by someone in advance to cause absurd calls like this to happen in order to give an unfair advantage to someone from the gambling party so Serena would eventually lose the match due to the bad calls she made(Which is a rarity in tennis and this is only played under best of 3 sets i wonder how many more outrageous calls she could have made if this is a 5 set match?) When Serena came forward to confront her, I could not help myself but to watch her face in such a disgust look especially when she gave her response back to Serena and her explanation is giving us something that didn't make sense today thanks to the HawkEye. Her reasoning was basically trying to be in the middle between yes and no, but no one at the moment would know what's for sure and what's not. Because of that, she was basically saying that she couldn't replay the point because there is no way to turn her decision back as it is, so if she's wrong no one can argue and win against her because at the end of the day, she's the only one who can choose right or wrong and making it wrong even though it could be otherwise. Also, watching her feeling so calm, and cold blooded demeanor makes me so angry due to her facial expresssion really saying 'I dont think the decisions were controversial because I am confident with myself that Serena's ball was out in my judgment no matter what, the whole world will see that I am not wrong.
Mariana Alves, the way you officiate the match is just a disgrace, humiliating and truly a joke for your other credible umpiring team because as a chair were successful in creating history that day with a very poor performance in your duty. In fact, your indifferent attitude about the several calls you made was the reason why people decided they can no longer 💯 count on a professional umpiring and introduced to the tennis world the HawkEye challenge review system that has been widely used today and has been made mandatory in all GS MATCHES other than the French Open. It was because of Mariana Alves that no matter how bad a line call went, it shall not be given/changed to the right party no matter what arguments there will be including the absolute truth! As how the stakes were played here, she made huge bad calls so many times and the play continued with no success in intervention by Serena, the spectators who saw what happend or the tournament organisers whom probably knew she was wrong but decided they couldn't do anything too. Clearly she had something in her mind on that evening, maybe she was enjoying a bit too much of 420 before she showed up for the match here? Her head must have been buzzing and her mind was probably spinning like crazy here, which explains the large set of eyes trying to stay on guard with no focus.
Serena would have won us open that year ,these calls cost her a slam !!! And She has been even too calm , It's strange that always in her homeslam there are controversies, this , US open 2009 vs Clijsters , 2011 final and 2018 with Osaka another drama
That's how racist America is, even towards it's own champions it can't help itself. The hate runs deep.
I tell ya, when I'm at work, white people LOOK for mistakes. I'm constantly accused of things, even when people admit it was them, they lock in on me. It's the little nit-picking, micro aggressions they do in societyas a whole. We are policed everywhere. ANYTHING to bring you down a notch they'll try. They see "problems/issues" that aren't even there, just like they did here. I've seen it. I've experienced it. Most of my life. I feel like the 300 fighting the Persians. They won't ever stop.
I'm so sorry for venting to you on a tennis match. The US Open starts tomorrow and I'm just excited but I had to get that off my chest 😬😬😬🙃🙃🙃🫠🫠🫠🥺🥺🥺😓
Sorry. But America is so mean to us black people and it seems as if no one will listen.
This match is why they had her mug shot in the movie 😂
Im surprised serena didn't argue her case more. Getting the ref out! Disgusting decision from the umpire. One of the worst... and to think she still chairs matches?!?
Not a Serena fan - but even at that, these missed calls hurt ME to watch. You never wanna see this - no one deserves this. Ever. Serena was robbed in this match.
Capriati kicked Serena's Butt many times throughout her career. I love that
Impressive how Capriati's strokes held up against Serena here.
Too bad Capriati never won the Open.
That classic match against Monica in '91 and to come back 13 years later after everyone wrote her off playing even better tennis.
Most people don't realize Chris Evert's dad, Jimmy Evert, was the one who developed Capriati's game.
SERENA FOREVER NR 1 ! 🎾🎈🎾🎈🎾🎈🎾🇵🇱
Wonder about the outcome if players could challenge back then! On a positive note, bad calls like this last game forced the challenge system we have today.
Wow, I never knew Capriati was such a disgusting cheat. I guess players like her and Henin were SO desperate to win against Serena they would sooner go down in history as cheats rather than lose. Capriati actually lost here. As did Henin. When I hear Henin's name I immediately think 'cheater'. I now include Capriati.
The difference was that Henin actually CHEATED. She raised her hand up during Serena's service motion yet didn't admit it when the judge only gave Serena a second serve. Henin CHEATED. JennyCap just let the linesmen and umpire cheat, and really had no part of it. Arantxa Sanchez was also a cheater, especially on clay when if there was a close call she'd scratch a mark outside the line just in case a linesman checked the spot. Cheaters. JennyCap was just.a dumb jock. Really dumb, like nothing upstairs dumb. The drugs probably haven't helped either.
@@LiamForeman Hanin well done☺ we like natural women not a men in tennis.
calls against Serena were flat out awful
Who’s here on lock down 2?
Hmmm 😒... not all muggings occurs in dark alleyways.
Never watched this match at the time..just tuning in randomly..wtf with the line judges! That must have been demoralising for Serena. Playing great shots time and time again only to be ruled out.
The judges need to go to Specsavers!🤓
Who's the guy at 4:46?
Stephon Marbury...Used to play PG for the Knicks
Wielkie gwiazdy tenisa ! SERENA FOREVER NR 1 ! 🎈🎾🎈🎾🎈🎾🎈⚘💖⚘💖⚘🇵🇱
With that level of tennis, the officiating was disgraceful. It’s especially egregious when all the calls favor one player. That umpire should have been replaced, never to do a pro match again.
There should always be an * against this win, because of the bad calls on crucial points. This match always makes me angry.
This match may have jump started Serena towards GOAT status!
Capriaty won the macth by taking points, that were really Serena.
unpire was 👎👎👎👎👎👎 !!!.
The same could be argued against Serena when she played Capriati earlier that year at the French. Bad calls, though unfortunate, happen to every player, even to #SERENAMAN
Marquis De Sade capriati cheated period.
Is this the match where Serena wore the shirt. The Ball was in.
The first bad call was confusing. The linesman clearly called the ball good and there was no overrule by the chair umpire so how the heck is it advantage Capriati?
who was the empire?
I know the Serena haters will say we are whinny brats but I probably watched 85 precent of the matches Serena played on tv and that type of calls happened all the time. All the time. I don’t want to call it racist or bring color into but it happened to the williams sister Zina garrison and Chandra Rubin a lot.
tainted match. serena pulled up off those last two out calls but they were still in, it was almost like they based their call on her pulling off the shot. oh well, was glad that dementieva beat her in a heartbreaker in the semi, and kuzzy won the final, she's a nice girl
