Foot fault at an extremely important point. Serena at US Open 2009

- Serena Williams, who lost both her temper and her US Open 2009 semi-final against Kim Clijsters, was fined $10,500 for her profanity-laced tirade against a lineswoman who called a foot fault against her.
Serena Williams finally apologized for her angry outburst.
What did she really say to the lineswoman?

When she's getting beat and outplayed, it's common for her to turn nasty. She did it here and she did it again after her two violations against Osaka. Totally inexcusable. Then trying to glorify herself by turning it into a women's rights issue is totally disingenuous and ridiculous. Poor sport, low class.
amen man. u know the irony here? I was a huuuge Serena fan and then this happened and I was so shocked and embarrassed and realized Serena is a bully and I hate bullies. and look at again today against Osaka, who probly worshipped the ground she walked on but still cut her ass. I mean u would think Osaka was the 23 time Slam champ and Serena was the rookie how she carried on today. her coach clearly admitted after the match he CHEATED and kudos for Ramos for having the balls to stand by his convictions and protect the integrity of the game.
Who care what you think
English?
Her attitude was over the top. But the coaching violation seems to exist in a very grey zone that doesn't seem to fool proof itself out of existence (which in itself is a bit dumb). Why not seat coaches on sides or out of player view. If what she says about men saying far worse things is true, then perhaps she raises more points in her merit. Her constant verbal abuse was perhaps uncalled for. Penalized for "Thief" doesn't seem right, but the prior verbal abuse was penalty worthy. But all of these penalties stemmed from the initial coaching penalty which doesn't seem to hold weight imo. The coach admitted to coaching, but it seemed more of a habitual coaching like how you instruct any professional players while watching on tv.
opinions? thoughts?
two things are for sure: she badgered the umpire and she broke her raquet. whether the coaching shuld be penalized or not, is gray, but the coach admitted it afterwards, so it's not an unfair call. sometimes umpires make bad calls as with any sport--but if you keep badgering him with it then it becomes th eplayer's fault. two wrongs dont make a right. william thinks that badgering the umpire will somehow make it right. it doesn't
"I'm about to lose, so let me ruin this moment for the opponent and make it all about me". Typical spoiled brat attitude.
I don't think she meant it that way. She has a lot of respect for both Kim and Naomi. She might do something like that for Sharapova though.
Stop hating Paulie, you wish you were her 🧡
@@Fajri_Umar I don't think Paulie wishes to be a short tempered sore loser like Serena Williams who makes everything about race and sex when it is just the Umpire following the rules.

" I didn't say I'd kill you , I'm not a cheater " liar ! Venus has the same face on as she did during Osaka final . I think deep down Venus finds Serena embarrassing when she goes into a meltdown .
I magine Venus has seen more serena rage then anyone.
I saw this clip on another site and it wasn't footing the issue it was a call on her shot on the line. Am i thinking right?
"A lot of people say way worse." is her justification. Great, well you can commit any crime you want and expect to be excused because a lot of people have done way worse a crime than you.
She's so manipulative
It's about EQUALITY, not excuses. If the men get away with it, then leave her alone! They already get paid way more anyway!

I'm including brand deals, etc. Not just from the tournaments... Are you seriously implying that women make the same as men?? Give me a break, men have always made more the women in general.
Men spend more time on the field, run more, hit the ball stronger, of course they gonna get paid more. Men tennis is much more interesting than women tennis, nothing's happening in women tennis, it's not even fun to watch.
Yeah, her 2009 self said way worse than her 2018 self 😂

Her point was they've said worse and not gotten penalized. I don't know if she's right about that. Could be. Either way I think her behavior was disgraceful and deserved penalizing.
I met someone today who met the line judge shortly after the event. Apparently she was traumatised by this. She made the right call. You don't become a line judge to get in the limelight. Serena is a great player but was out of order. I also think people forget the punishment was only a point penalty but because it was match point it was game set match.
What? No, it wasn't game/set/match. Why are you saying an untruth? Facts matter. Williams damaged her reputation here, like other times.
@@treylem3it was game/set/match? The score was 6/4 6/5 40/15. It was match point. Therefore, when she got a point penalty, she lost the match. Wether this also damaged her reputation is a seperate issue.
I felt so sorry for the poor line judge in this - she was just doing her job. No one needs that sort of abuse from multi millionaire tennis players when they are paid almost nothing by comparison. I saw her at Wimbledon qualifying this year - so she is still working as a line judge so good for her!

No excuse for Williams. She shouldn't be playing anymore tennis. An old disgrace player who understands nothing about good manners in sport and FairPlay . What a shame! She has, however a lot of examples to be taken from Federer, Nadal but, most of all from the wonderful Naomi Osaka. Who excused herself for winning the match! Did you ever see a person so humbled as Naomi is? Congrats Naomi, you are the big Champion!! At only 20.
Plus this is a MAN!!! Oh God! People open your eyes!
But sadly this had affect Osaka a lot in later despite winning the first grand slam but a boo to her had affect her
Her defence every time is .. a lot of people did/said worse ? Does that allow her to shout at people doing their job ?
Threatening to kill a person is not just nasty it's illegal. I'd press charges if I were the lines woman. I think that may make Serena think twice. No one should have to put up with that in ANY work place. I bet she would promptly make a finical settlement to make it go away especially considering the witnesses.
Nothing changes with her. Champions are not just built on trophies but how you conduct yourself when you lose, it's never her fault that's the problem. She acts terrible when it's going against her same with Osaka 9 years later on 2018 she was losing and absolutely lost it mentally.
Once again some one needs to play the diva . Serena does this all the time
To make a call like that and at that point in the match; It would have to be blatantly obvious! The lines-woman could be related to David Littlefield :).
As you can see, her foot was on the line. It was the right call and then she tried to bully the line judge. Yet people love her.
Exactly. Preach it.
Yes we absolutely do! Kinda like people love Trump
@@ladyredwine7816 NO idea why they love Serena or Trump. I personally can't stand either.
@@tonyg76 cool, you're the only that cares ..
@@ladyredwine7816 Pretty sure by the comments section I am not and even if so, I do not mind being the only one.
Same attitude for the professional tennis tournament
brothers Williams can only threaten, not fair play.
threatening the lineswoman with physical harm is unacceptable
serena is very intimidating
& yes
i am black
Her opponent didn't even have time to enjoy her victory because of her behaviour. Serena was on the brick of defeat anyways but failed to take it as a real sportsman
