I'm addicted to these updates, and I'm not even a cycling fan.
You are now 😉
Same thing happened to me a few years ago.
Me too! I only watch the Tour for more than 20 years now!
hate to break it to you but you are a cycling fan
Now you are
Crazy stuff, but that save by Bissegger was something else...
Felt so bad for Küng. Dude must have trained for months with this stage in mind, only for some prodigy GC kid to take it away from him.
At least he wins the award for most beautiful TT position on the bike.
the name is "prodigy", right? 🤔
That’s what Lance used to do to Olano, Botero & Ulrich. GC guy absolutely smoked the TT specialists 😂
Totally agree man. Kung especially looks super duper smooth in the TT position, a feast for the eyes !
Pogacar is a freak of nature, the wattage output is ridiculous for a non time trialist, I think if he focuses on TT for a year he could definitely get the hour record, his FTP is at times unbelievable.
but is funny he saying he lost about 20 sec because he hadnt radio for the last 3 km's, when pogacar was without radio the all course, makes me think this guy could have taken 1 minute plus
Can’t believe Rogla wore the helmet! “Err yah, why not?”
But this time it was a bigger size that fits his head better.
MVDP wore his helmet too
Wai not hah?
5 danish riders in top 20 is actually crazy for such a small nation
Crazy indeed but Danmark has the 2nd most cyclists per capita in the world behind Netherland so not that surprising with their viking profiles haha.
Still, good catch !
As GCN commented: The bacon boys are back 🐷🇩🇰
@@StringerBell50 Still, I think the Danmark TT is significant. In Danmark there is less youth clubs riding, and cycling talents tent to be more single riders, who will work on TT a lot.. Danish cyclist always have done great in TT or riding alone...
Or 6 in the top 30, or 4 in the top 12, any way you put it, it's very impressive!
Vingegaard future Grand Tour winner
We thought the same about Sepp Kuss last year, and see...
@@dididubalier2196 lots of people who don't understand cycling thought that
@@dididubalier2196 but Sepp Kuss was never good at ITT, Vingegaard is.
Maybe 1 week stage races...maybe...
With evenepoel and bernal as Rivals? No way
Küng’s reaction sums up how other pros feel about Pogacar
Priceless.!!! Hell Pogi. never broke a sweat. !!!! I think McNulty would have done well had he not gone down on the slick paint.. Bissegger almost lost it on the same corner..
Hmm is he dosing?
@@ordoorion All of these statements simply confirm that Lance is the GOAT.
Respect to LR for working hard, putting out a podcast and a highlights video each day is a bunch of effort.
Roglic needed two skin suits today ...one to cover his injuries and another to cover his modesty. Great ITT, helped by helmet of ZOOM😉
Damn cut the man some slack
I think the white jersey skin suit is the fastest as Tadej Pogacar always performs in it
They get custom tailored by le coq sportif the night before so there's a chance it is actually faster than his regular team one haha
just loved pogacars reaction when mvdp crossed the finish line and how he blew up his interview to congratulate him
Pogacar is just happy not taking the yellow too early!
I think it was Mvdp who blew up the interview to congratulate pocacar
I like TP but his performance looks alien. Didn’t even look tired or sweaty crossing the line.
Yeah sad to say but it's looking suspicious
TP is the best in the Tour de France. And he will win his second tour de France. (I think) But Mathieu is so much better all round. Road cycling. Cyclocross. Mountainbike. Mathieu van der poel is so amazing.
So if he didn't look tired maybe he didn't try as hard as he could. Why would he do that? Maybe that's just the normal way he looks post TT
ppl are always gonna focus on the best guy and try and find something wrong no matter who wins.
He looked far too relaxed in that TT, and he even sandbagged the last couple of corners so it wouldn't look too bad. Alien is correct.
If this years tour is won by a second, Pogacar’s start on the ramp is gonna be a controversial one 😂
The timer start from when the front wheel contact the sensor. False starts wouldn’t effect the final result.
haha the body language of the commissaire whose hand he pushed through at the start was all "wtf he is doing"
@@andyhaochizhang good to know. thanks!
@@iansteelmatheson either that or why was he moving? "I dunno?"

I mean just look at the face of Pogacar and compare it to the other ones. He looks like if he is chilling on the couch LUL
@RegularOldRug read my comment if you want more info
Exactly! Look at the faces at the finish - Kung, van der Poel, van Aert, Alaphilippe - all were totally pouring with sweat, with grimasses on their faces. Pogacar was not even looking to sweat properly and deffinitely didn’t look to be at his limits in the finishline like others. When riding on the bike at the last third of the course he even smirked at the motocamera - looking totally cool and relaxed, nothing like all others.
He eats healthy 👾
Reminds me of the faces in the 90's.
he's young. I mean.. Eliud Kipchoge looks like he just walked 42 km instead of running....
On point as per usual Pat. It’s awesome seeing an athlete like VDP look into himself and pull out a performance like that one.
Its amazing to see how you have grown since last year - and still put out the same straight FIRE content! Keep the great work up.
4:30 That look on Küng's face: what's he thinking?
Superb recap as always👊
Küng is regretting not contacting TP's doctor during off season
sad
Tadej looks so relaxed during that effort, almost as if he wanted to smile through the whole distance!
Tadej about to win yellow, TT and road race golds at the Olympics. The track boys better hope he doesn't show up in the Velodrome in Tokyo

Great video as always!
These videos are fantastic
You can cut the "d" in Vingegaard and you are pretty spot on with the pronounciation! Another great vid.
Kung's face at end. Not disappointment. Disbelief.
Just a great video
Seriously guys, how can you keep a straight face at Pogacar's performance? Beating Kung a TT specialist who is like 15 kg > than him over a flattish course? History shows that if one is exceptional at both climbing and TTing there is something wrong there...
So true.
It was not flat stage ...
I have very mixed feelings about him, as well.
Also when you consider that he can also sprint, as shown in Liege-Bastogne-Liege. However, I am not a pro-cyclist. I do not know how much influence the bike handling skills, preparation and overall team setup and the likes, have in the end.
But just from a physiological standpoint, I also find it odd. Then, on the other hand, Ganna smashed the final TT in the Giro over 30.3km in 33:48min (of, course he is an utter specialist).
As I child I watched Lance Armstrong and Jan Ullrich battle (and as a German was an avid fan of Jan) in the TT's and the mountains where they both dominated. And we all know how that panned out in the end.
@@SuperVapourizer It is true that Slovenian is the most doped nation in cycling. Almost half was suspended :-). We will see.
Amazing form after an extended period of lockdown where no testing could be done… it’s weird, huh?
Also insane that there are 5 danish riders among the first seventeen, so proud to be danish 😀
I’m sure you guys noticed Pog face impression when he glanced right to the moto camera…. Priceless.
Did anyone else notice how much closer the moto was to ala than mvdp

That intro 🙏
Pogi makes it all look so effortless,
Van der Poel needs some wind tunnel time, he has so much potential to become the fastest with all that power he puts out.
TT is such a mental game, he had yellow on his mind and pushed for that. I don't think he can go so deep into it every time. If you don't feel it for 100% there is a part of you that you just can't unlock. The TT is too nitpicky for him I think, unless of course there is another day of yellow in the TDF on the line
3:42 : he didn't roll out early. They can roll out within the countdown. The transponder/sensor automatically defines the start time within those 3-5 seconds. If you look closely, you can see many of the big guns rolling out 'too early'.
Thanks
He's outputting Watt/KG like Armstrong and Pantani. What a prodigy
This is a good one :)
The pace and expression of this guy remind me of Lance Armstrong in every time trial; Look fresh, very speedy, over the rest. We all know what happened..
Except the fact that Pogačar doesn't need any illegal substance to achieve this
@@matijaatelsek7587 and you know this how???? He's just put minutes into other quality riders on the Colombiere today...I smell BS
@@spm36 he got tested so many times but he was always clean. Everybody that is still trying to accuse him of doping, is just jelaous.
@@matijaatelsek7587 That sounds exactly like the people who defended Lance Armstrong. You’ll enjoy the sport even more when you accept that they all dope.
Who cares... All the top guys took somit, Lance is still the king
People when Pogačar (who has been amazing at ITTs before, with a team taking care of the bike setups to a T, and who has proven to be a great talent _since he was a little kid_ ) performs amazingly at an ITT: "omg he must be doped up!!!"
People when MVDP (who hasn't shown to be great at ITTs before because of the lack of experience with them and was therefore literally setting up the bike until the last possible time) performs amazingly at an ITT: "omg what an incredible rider, so happy for him!!!"
Ps. I love both of them and am happy for both doing so well. Just pointing out the huge double standards of the audience here. 🙄
Its not a double standard because of the weight. MVDP is like 15kg than Tadej. Get your head out of your ass.
Roglic's helmet is the real MVP for, you know, fitting
Bravo to Roglic. he did very good with all the injuries. now its time to sit on Pogacar's wheel.
A truly superhuman performance from Pog, if he keeps this form up he will surely enter the pantheon of greats along with Armstrong, Ullrich and Contador! 👏
Also, that edit to a close shot of Küng's face as Pog crossed the line, told us all, without a single word being spoken, of the immense respect the peloton has for this Slovenian prodigy, who is rewriting the rulebook and the laws of physics, showing the specialists that you don't need to he a climber, a TT man, a rolleur etc, you can just be everything at once if you can push 6.5 W/KG without looking like you're trying too hard. Pog even eased off the gas to at the end of the TT stage to give everyone else a chance and still won.
The rest of the peloton must follow this great example or be damned to mediocrity.
Congratulations...good examples with those dope cheater you mentioned.
We all now know how that panned out.

Thanks for the recap. MVDP- pretty super TT. I read that Küng may have had a slow leak in his front tire? Does anyone know? Just curious. I was hoping for Bissegger or Alaphilippe, but it was an exciting TT anyway. Feels like there's been a wealth of drama and action already!!
Great video, as usual. It feels like the TdF is over (barring a crash) before we hit the first Cat 2 climb. But hopefully the other teams ride aggressively and hit UAE with multiple riders.

Mvdp worked on his bike fit for tt until midnight the day before ... That shows how amazing of a rider he is!

Ineos' riders are outclassed in this tt wooh😯
Probably gonna see Ineos and Jumbo-Visma team up to try to gain some time over Pogacar. What do you think though?
Maybe but it looks that Pogacar does not need a team to win.
I think his advantage will be that too many teams will consider him too strong and just aim for podium instead of trying to win. He doesn't have a strong enough team to fight off 4 opponents, but if it's "only" Jumbo and Ineos, he's got an excellent chance. So far, the only weakness in grand tours he has shown was crosswinds.

Hope minus 1 person in TJV doesn't really hurt them.. 2 and 3 in final GC might be more realistic one

regarding Pogacar leaving 1 second year - since the final times are measured to the 0.01 second precision, I assume his exact time is correct and measured by some more precise methods, not started by that the big goofy clock we see at the starting marquee
Yeah surely its triggered electronically or by laser or rfid tag passing a line, so he didnt really start a second earlier. Else they would have added a second to his time. The visible clock is just counting down the 2 mins gap between riders.

While watching it this afternoon I also noticed Pogacar starting early and wondered whether the time really starts at the precise starting time or whether there's actually a light barrier starting the clock?
There is, the time starts when the rider rolls out, not when the official is done doing his finger thing
Pogacar is Ok. For rule
I'm still picking Roglic.
van der Poel's mouth was open so wide to suck in every last gram of O2 he could -- hugely impressive and just another instance of the Yellow Jersey motivation. Pogacar should have been docked a few seconds as penalty for leaving early, but the control is not so precise. In the future they should probably add a gate like skiers use at the start and if you trip the gate early there is an automatic penalty of, say, 4 seconds plus the amount early so if you trip the gate 0.734 seconds early you have 4.734 seconds added to your time. Still, Tadej is looking like the rider to beat.
Tadej is on the same form as 2009 Contador when he beat Cancellara on a rolling TT in Annecy..
Before the first Cat 2 climb the man has 2 mins on the ragtag bunch of battered, bruised, injured and/or dropped GC contenders...
The tactical options are few...
INEOS and JV jave to find a way to send TGH or Porte AND Vingegaard on a breakaway and hope that they can isolate Tadej.
The only problem is that At this early stage of the race there are many other teams who will chase as rhe race is still wide open...
And then Tadej also happens to be one of the best climbers in the world, soooo... there's that...

@Anthony Marks Tadej is 22 years old and has been a pro since 2019.
In that time this man has (so far) won 4 stages, 1 MJ, 1 MP and 1 MB in the TdF, 3stages one jersey and a Podium in the Vuelta, 2 national TT titles, overall wins in the Tour of Cali, Volta Algarve, Volta Valenciana, Tour of Slovenia, UAE tour and Tirreno Adriatico....
Oh! Don't forget that LBL win and podium in successive years....
Again, this is in less than 2 years...
Cycling equipment, nutrition, clothing, helmets, training and even the sunglasses have all changed dramatically since Hinault burst on the scene in 1978....
But the generational talent that Hinault showed then is exactly the same as what Tadej is showing now...
This kid is for real...
@Anthony Marks I said the kid MIGHT be the next Hinault. I never mentioned anything about Merckx...
This is the marker YOU are putting the kid up against, not me :-)
@Anthony Marks yeah, well tell me what Hinault's normalised power, watts/kg or FTP was when he was 22.
Can't say? No worries, then tell me if Hinault had a 7 figure 5 year pro contract at age 20...
Time marches on sir, as does race prep and training, physiologic training, nutrition and pro compensation.
Hinault rode all those races because (a) he had the talent to do, (b) it was accepted/standard practice at the time, and (c) he had to to make a living. Those track and classic races were not an option for Him
Tadej seems to have the same level of talent and has the contract and access to modern training techniques which makes the things Hinault HAD to do an option for him....
How Talent like Tadej's is developed and displayed may have changed between Hinault's and Tadej's era...
But the quality of the talent itself is consistent over the same 40 year span....
And Tadej seems to be the real, LeMond, Hinault, Contador-level deal...
Do we want to see longer courses on the tt?
Yes, I'm tired of seeing a ride similar to what I do and it takes them half the time. That route would take me about an hour.
I think instead of disbelief and doubts, we should all try to study Pogacar’s TT position. He’s clearly onto something!
Use of insane as an adjective
And here's the UCI rule for time trial: "2.4.013 The start may be determined by the front tyre making contact with an electronic timing
strip on the start line. If the rider starts fractionally before the countdown reaches 0 or in
the following 5 seconds the time it is triggered is used. If the rider starts after this 5
second delay has elapsed or in the event of problems with the electronic timing, the
rider's time shall be counted as from the start of manual timing following the countdown.
"
Would be funny if the timing of TTs, that are measured to the hundredth of a second, are started by some guy counting down with his fingers :D
@@brunospasta ;) half of the internet thought so..

we could smash the world champs in tt, if he trained for that too, this perfomance in a bike seted up last minute. hes a freak of nature
Long sustained efforts in CX and mtb make him great as a puncheur. I dont think he would have done as well on this TT if there was more climbing like the last one of the 2020 tour.
