Part 2? Do we want a part 2? I kinda do…. **also, final lists are in the desc. sorry if it got cut off by YT things** Hello everyone! Just wanted to say I tried as hard as I possibly could to rate these fairly but it’s not perfect (of course). You may rank something way higher due to your own preferences so I included all the sliders here too. Also, the SWAG factor is because there are some more intangible things that are hard to add to the overall ranking (loopwheel for example may be very important to someone but worthless to someone else). Lastly, some of you may love heavy weight and others may love light weight. The reason it’s used in the overall value calculation is due to taking the amount of material used into account for the price. Again, not perfect but gave it a shot!
Bronson has super heavy sweatshirts for a part 2. 21oz military reverse weave seems to be a repro of vintage Champion. I do find the neck opening on it too small for me but yeah. It's there, it's very high quality and really quite cheap.
I've always said that. It's probably because he has little time for videos, so he's not able to put out multiple videos a week and is lucky to have weekly so he doesn't reach as many people. His older ones had a lot more humor in the editing, which has been high quality for a while, but he's also started a clothing line of his own. He first made a denim jacket ( the prologue) and a black denim jacket, then a wool jacket(the mammoth) , and special edition jacket. And recently he redid the prologue in a different fit and company, and chapter 1, his selvedge denim jeans that I'm super excited to get and have been wanting for months now. I should be receiving them in November sometime. I have a ton of jeans, but I wish the jacket was here already. This is one of my favorite people on UA-cam. We all love Michael. Happy you are here!
Honestly everybody needs some fashion advice. I’ve binge watched his videos for a while now, and found my own style I like. All because of what he talked about. I also know what could go with what, and what will work and not work together. It’s a channel that’s not popping off but it’s the quality of his videos with information that is so useful, you can use it for yourself as well
I live in Tokyo, am not so bothered about clothes (wear a bunch of Uniqlo mainly) but I honestly find it fascinating to watch these videos. Subscribed!
"Arborwear Cotton Double Thick", da best. It's 2x13oz sweaters sewn together to make the best work sweater of all time and it fits a hardhat under the hood but without one you kinda look like a sith lord, I ordered an athletic grey version for at home.
Got it for my GF, she loves it around the house. Unfortunately we're in Texas and it's still 80 degrees in November so she hasn't gotten to try it outside... 💔
Camber makes a better one (I own both) the 441 where the pile of the two fleece layers is sewn together as not to leave any soft material exposed, leading to less lint and better insulation. Where the Arborware sweater's two fleece panels are sewn front to back instead of the cambers back to back.
This is exactly the content I've been looking for in this world of fast fashion and brand clothes that start to pill after a couple washes. Just wanted to say thanks for doing what you do!
I have not heard Camber mentioned in years. I sold them next to Carhartt for 15 years. They use to make a USA made heavyweight thermal lined hoodie. The zip-up version got me through a few years of winters at PSU Main. Then I lost it in a move. RIP great hoodie.
Yeah, he took their lightest weight sweatshirt (12oz) for the video, but it also has the highest cotton percentage of their blends (90/10). They have a chill buster 14 oz and an arctic thermal 19oz that are both 50/50 cotton poly blend. They have their industrial stuff as well, 20oz or 24oz 90/10 blends or one 100% cotton jacket. They are all still made in their worn down factory outside of Philly.
@@doubledubs5644 I think the arctic thermal was the one I had years ago. I sold so many of those back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Damn good hoodies. Wish mine didn’t walk off. I’m sure it would look rough by now, bust it would still be functional.
Been a fan of American Giant for years. Got their hoodies, t-shirts, denims, shorts, pants, socks… very happy with the quality! Another hoodie brand I recommend is Flint & Tinder 10-year hoodie. Really really good. I’m based in the UK and these products are not cheap to get here unfortunately. Cheers
American Giant is running a huge shipping scam. I called them out and they didn’t address it. Tons of reviews on them even on BBB. I will not support that brand anymore.
@@NoVaRedacted how? Tell me more. I’ve been ordering 20+ times and only ever had order issues once or twice but it always got resolved. International shipping.
Love your videos as always! You crunched countless hours of research into a concise 20min vid. Thought Brut and American Giant would score higher based on your explanation and was hoping B.Rickson would get more screen time. Excited for part 2!
Fantastic video, Mikey. Yes, please do a part 2. Btw love my American Giant hoodie, and it has reinforced elbows.... like you said it's a little overkill but fantastic.
Hey Michael, I saw LA Apparel in your list at 0:34. Sad they didn't make it on there! I've been collecting their hoodies and crewnecks on their depop page for all under $10 the past couple months. Quality and fit are both great and I have a couple of their double layer ones and they might be the best hoodies I've ever owned.
Their double layer vision samples are insane for the value. The yeezy season 6 hoodie has been my favorite hoodie for quite a long time. Their "puffy fleece" is wonderful.
Once bought a GAT Sneaker from them. Thought it would be great, as they also sell vintage ones under their vintage shop line, but I was extremely disappointed. The shape was terrible, quality control had major issues and the material was worse then adidas. I really wanted to like them, but after wearing them for a few months, they ended up being the worst quality and comfort sneakers I've ever had, even Reebok club C were miles Infront of them. A shame, really, but maybe it was only with this product
Loved this one. Whitesville and Rickson going on the wishlist! You're killin it with the graphics and presentation, been really sick watching your style evolve.
Hey Michael! I personally am a huge fan of vintage Russell, and that's partly because they made all of L.L. Bean's sweats way back in the day. Most of them came with a really cool Russell x L.L. Bean collab label. Love this video, and of course would really like to see a second one. If you are interested, I would be very happy to lend you an excellent Bean vintage sweatshirt if you would like to review it! Also, so very excited for the mammoth jacket v2.0! It will be perfect for a New England winter! Keep it up!!
LOVED this video!! Extremely informative and I especially loved the details on how much they may shrink since that is the biggest struggle I have when buying clothes in general. Thank you lots!
You’ve got to review Todd Synder x Champion sweatshirts. They basically brought back nice equality hoodies. They have a cult-like following, and for good reason.
My favorite sweatshirt is a black turtleneck TS x Champion sweatshirt. Perfect weight, super comfortable, loose enough turtleneck to not feel restrictive but not so loose it looks weird and it still blocks the wind. $35 on poshmark, some of the best money I've ever spent
Big fan of the American Giant sweatshirts. If you ever do a sweatshorts video, I really like the ones AG makes. Heavy compared to most other brands but still comfortable in the summer. Just wish they had the single back pocket that Uniqlo puts on their shorts.
Great comment about the neck on the Camber. Very true and I don’t even have a thick neck. I have two of their hoodies and I had to take them both to a tailor to have her put a V in the neck so they weren’t constantly choking me.
I find vintage Russell (made in USA) excels in the fit. I size up to an XXL in their crewneck, and I get the most perfect baggy arms, but still a tight cuff on the neck and arms. A 50/50 cotton/poly is not great on paper, but I cannot deny it is one of my favourite crewnecks to wear.
The made in USA Russell sweaters are amazing! I actually have found 3 at the thrift store recently, M, XL, and XXL. The fit is great, sort of cropped compared to modern sweaters. Two of the ones I found are actually 95% cotton 5% polyester. The material is thicker and feels so much nicer than newer ones.
Depends on which Made in the USA. The 70’s and 80’s ones are in my opinion warmer and thicker than the early 90’s Made in the USA. I was very lucky to find someone a while back selling 70’s and 80s w/ tags for $10-15
@TheIronSnail Important to note that Reigning Champ has moved a large part (if not the entirety) of their productions to SE Asia. People have noted a decrease in quality. The sweatshirt you purchased may be the last of the "Made in Canada" models, so ironically, owning one with a bacon-y collar might be for the best.
Came to mention this. I used to buy stuff from them all the time. Just unsubscribed from their email marketing last week. I'm done with them completely.
Yeezy season 6 and LAAs "puffy fleece" is my absolute go to for favorite hoodies and crew necks. LAA also has their double layer pullovers which are crazy for the value.
I want to shout out the in-house brand of Roopa Knitting Mills in Toronto, House of Blanks. I've noticed several different companies use their hoodies including Tellason, Todd Snyder, Muttonhead, 3sixteen, and allegedly Aime Leon Dore and Supreme. From what I can tell any hoodie made in Toronto is likely them. I have both their crewnecks and hoodies and they're great, especially if you can get them on sale (I got mine on sale from a small Canadian streetwear store called Swagger Like Me).
It's a real shame this video didn't include HoB or UniformLA, those are the two brands I actually hear recommended and endorsed most frequently in these circles.
Just wanted to mention that I work in construction and buy the zip up version of the Russell hoody, usually around $15. They make it about 3 years of almost daily wear from October-April. Not a bad value for me. The cheap zippers haven’t even failed on me.
Do you have one? How is the fit? I have the regular classic full zip from AG and I wish I had returned it, it's much too long and slim. The fit feels like a relic from the early 2010's.
My best sweatshirt is a Levis one weirdly that I bought 7-8 years ago. 100% cotton, one of my most worn items but still going strong. Absolutely love it. Can't help but fear that the quality on the newer ones is probably not the same as it was sadly when the time comes to replace it.
OMG I just found this amazing channel thank you for making such informative and interesting reviews of each sweatshirts, I especially love the different BGM haha
While watching this video and the "internet's favorite T-Shirt" (both great btw) I started to think about sizing and how it effects the styling of these products. It's great that you list your proportions but here's the thing; The size variation for most of these products is a uniform increase in length and width, usually with one (width in my experience) increasing more than the other. Meaning the fit of a product changes relative to the wear-er. TLDR; Can you make an episode about industry standard patterns, cuts, and sizing? Pretty please
Great video! Love my Reverse weave both vintage MiUSA as well as newer-ish or present day pieces. I have to say though I recently got a Velva Sheen MiUSA Hoodie that is also really awesome!! Please include Velva Sheen if you do a part II 🤝
I’m not sure if they still exist, but I bought a champion x Todd synder hoodie a million years ago and it’s still the best hoodie I’ve ever owned. I’ve washed it a ton and she has held up exceptionally well.
Person who has been doing sweatshirts for 35 yrs and put 10's of millions on peoples backs. Good luck finding a heather color you like in pure cotton. You would have to fibre dye it in a blowroom - this is pretty common in flat knit sweaters - but tends to look way better in wools than cottons there too - and hitting the right tones is tough. In circular knit on a heather, you are going to want 10-30% polyester or nylon for the depth it adds, as the polyester/nylon thread take on less color in the same time and temperature as a pure cotton thread would, so the mixed yarn will have that irregular and natural looking heathering in a way that you otherwise will likely not reach. Also - if you are brushing the back (inside) more heavily, that synthetic will make it much softer and more voluminous to start - but will lead to more pilling on the inside. The pure cotton will likely shed more if brushed on the loop. I have not seen the Abercrombie sweat - but the softness would be a mix of carbon brushing the face fabric lightly and probably washing no more than one time. The polyester will give more stability of fabric in both of these processes - and if the wash is longer - it may also be to avoid twisting and irregular shrinkage in the wash process. Excellent video as always
I have a Fjallraven Greenland sweater back from 2019 when they still made them. It’s my go to crewneck and is phenomenal, not a comfy sweater at all but is built like a tank
Ive been on the quest for the perfect fitting sweater/hoodie for years, part 2 should include: carhartt dickies camber usa yeezy rue porter maybe even house of blanks
I have a ton of American Giant (i live near an outlet store they have), truly love their stuff. My current favorite crew neck sweatshirt though is Freenote Cloth, a Californian denim brand. Its like 18oz cotton and just fits amazing, awesome construction, made in America. One of my absolute favorite articles of clothing. Any part 2 should include a Naked and Famous crewneck sweatshirt. I have 2 and they're pretty great.
Thanks for the awesome videos, Mike! I'm a bit of a sweatshirt nerd, and some of my favorites are Birdwell, Todd Snyder/Champion collabs and a few Outerknown. Cheers!
I’ve had a chase crewneck for years and it’s still in great nick, superb quality. I will say, Cole Buxton or even Represent blank sweatshirts blow them out the water.
I have a handful of vintage russell sweatshirts/hoodies and at least the 90s/early 2000s ones don't have pilling issues. Russell is also known for a great boxy fit! My guess is you got a 70s russell hoodie and I can't speak for the quality on those
Since I hate fuzz balls and pilling IMO the first two sweaters were easily the best ones. Thanks to your video I ordered one from Unico. The internet ranking is nuts. Weird in that I have to order from an obscure retailer to get a basic sweatshirt.
I own the American giant hoodie and the flint and tinder (huckberry) hoodie. Both are really great. I’m sure there’s probably nicer out there, but it’s minuscule amount for the price jump. Champion is decent for the price but as they are now a mall brand, it’s only a matter of time before their stuff is going to go down in quality, while going up in price.
I have some vintage (original owner) Champion reverse weave made in the USA NYC 100% cotton Men’s Large never seen the dryer that I can let you borrow one for a video. Oh, and yes the Vintage Russell pill like crazy I may have one of those but so rough.
Great video. Ami Paris lover myself. Threw the rest I owned away. Can you make recommendations for good looking, comfortable winter boots? For New York weather
Weirdly my preference for sweatshirts is based on my experience growing up with Russel. Haven't had one in years but every now and then I have one and it's nice. Have some old jersey shirts that are nice
I would add Flint & Tinder, Brave Star and WEK to the mix. WEK sweatshirt has to be upsized unless you're going to follow the washing instruction of "lay flat to dry".
I have a rule with hoodies, if I can see my stomach stick out when I lift my arms up, it's a no go. I got the American Giant hoodie and while it feels quite nice, it fits like a large when I bought an XL which is really weird. Tummy shows on the arm lift test so I'm gonna send it back.
as a vintage seller I prefer the Champion RWs just for its history and value but personally I prefer wearing Russell because it's a much more comfortable fit.
Would love to see House of Blanks (aka Roopa Knitting Mills) made in Canada. Brands like Noah, Supreme, 3sixteen and more use their blanks and are my personal favorites. Other brands I’d like to see: - Original Favorites - Independent - Dehen 1920 - Arborwear - Ironheart - Flint and Tinder
The best sweatshirt is one that makes me body look like a stone block like a granite golem freakshow like making my body look like gods golden creation under harsh mid day lighting the best sweatshirt is one that will make me body look so interesting that if you took a picture of me it would burn in on your screen and break your phone FOREVER the best sweatshirt is one that I can wear to the gym and make it smell like my sweat and a handful of talcum powder
Modern sweatshirts encapsulate the entire madness of current street fashion and 'essentials' marketing. You cannot buy a heavyweight, well made sweatshirt anywhere in the US or Europe... unless you want to splash the cash. There's moderately expensive brands like Todd Snyder, who go out of their way to make vintage styling, heavyweight hoodies and sweatshirts. And of course small bespoke studios opening up... selling for truly excessive amounts. Then there's Japanese manufacturers, emulating 50's Americana. Also, extremely tricky to get hold and very costly.. Yet most sweatshirts sold by regular brands are disposable, throwaway made, fast-fashion products. When it used to be a staple, it used to be an item of clothing built to last.
Hey Michael, any chance you’ll be able to review some good brown leather jackets for the fall season? Yes specifically brown because brown is a classic fall color. Also it’ll look good with jeans or khakis, and some color of shirts like white and black and navy blue
I'm a practical person, so I care almost nothing for fashion. Granted, how informative you are is useful and interesting, but I still don't care enough about clothing to put this much attention in. But you are horrendously entertaining, thorough, and competent. Please, for the benefit of humanity, focus your attention on something.. more impactful.
Been wearing American giant for years. They are the best. They hold up great over time and they are warm. This should be a criteria though tricky to measure

Not surprised that my recommendation Karhu missed the list but if there is ever a part 2 I'll still back them. Super comfortable and nice
Great video as always! I personally would love part 2 and strongly considering purchasing a Camber hoodie! Thank you
OMG I just found this amazing channel thank you for making such informative and interesting reviews of each sweatshirts, I especially love the different BGM haha
Review on tomorrows laundry and also Carhartt work in Progress? Wanted to see your take on those.
Great video once again! Keep em comin’. Just bought my first Levis shrink to fits because of your video on them.
Great video! Love my Reverse weave both vintage MiUSA as well as newer-ish or present day pieces. I have to say though I recently got a Velva Sheen MiUSA Hoodie that is also really awesome!! Please include Velva Sheen if you do a part II 🤝
Liberally just bought the wonder looper foxfiber crew. Totally hyped to age it for years
Really enjoyed your t shirt videos, needed this hoody one
I’m not sure if they still exist, but I bought a champion x Todd synder hoodie a million years ago and it’s still the best hoodie I’ve ever owned. I’ve washed it a ton and she has held up exceptionally well.
They do still exist and they’re still fire
My #1 concern is how soft is the cotton? Construction comes second. That would make Whitesville my #1 sweatshirt.
You should try the Bronson Mfg 21 oz Military Academy hoodie. I got one a couple months ago and I've worn it almost every day since
I have a Fjallraven Greenland sweater back from 2019 when they still made them. It’s my go to crewneck and is phenomenal, not a comfy sweater at all but is built like a tank
Also would be happy to send it to you so long as I get it back lol
Would love to see a review of supreme hoodies, I know that style isn’t the normal thing you showcase, but it’s supposed to be amazing
Ive been on the quest for the perfect fitting sweater/hoodie for years, part 2 should include:
carhartt
dickies
camber usa
yeezy
rue porter
maybe even house of blanks
Cheers!
I love American Giant clothing so im very glad it made it on the list. thanks for the video and your insights
Would definitely love to see a part 2!
I am quite surprised that Carharrt did not make the list? Please review them in a part 2!!!
My guess is you got a 70s russell hoodie and I can't speak for the quality on those
After extensive research, pretty happy with my 14oz J. Crew Hoodie.
Since I hate fuzz balls and pilling IMO the first two sweaters were easily the best ones. Thanks to your video I ordered one from Unico. The internet ranking is nuts. Weird in that I have to order from an obscure retailer to get a basic sweatshirt.
I'll have to look out for vintage Champion hoodies now.
YO MISTER SNAIL, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS AND I WATCH THEM ALL!
When going the shrink percentage, are the dried in the dryer or air dried? Sorry if already asked. Great video.
I have the Reigning Champ hoodie in midweight terry, and that material and the cut are just top notch
Real question is what is that watch? It looks great,
Great video. Ami Paris lover myself. Threw the rest I owned away.
Can you make recommendations for good looking, comfortable winter boots? For New York weather
Great vid but your favs list at the end was covered by your thumbnail for other videos. Couldn’t see a lot of it ! Still great video
Hey Michael, where is that waffle shirt with the rollneck from? I love the color. You're wearing it during the post-recorded scenes
Excelent video, as always. Wonderlooper doesn't justify the price to me, even though I know it is great quality, but American Giant is solid.
Love this video!! Please do a part two!!
as a vintage seller I prefer the Champion RWs just for its history and value but personally I prefer wearing Russell because it's a much more comfortable fit.
Good stuff, brother! Keep up the great content. I'm always excited when a new video drops.
The independent 450gm legend is a very good hoodie! 13.5 oz very heavy and good weaves
When you’re talking shrink percentage, is that just throwing it in the wash and hang drying, or do you use a dryer?
New video wooohooo!! Love your videos man. I’m actually about to buy the Uniqlo Sweat Pullover Hoodie and the U Airism Cotton Sweatshirt
Thank you! Hope you love them!
Surprised Warehouse & Co Japan weren’t on this list - they do some excellent sweats!
Yes!!!! Sweatpant season!!!!! Let the coziness begin!
Camber is great, but the hood is just too small and the eyelets oxidised on mine and stained the front greeny yellow.
Would love to see House of Blanks (aka Roopa Knitting Mills) made in Canada. Brands like Noah, Supreme, 3sixteen and more use their blanks and are my personal favorites.
Other brands I’d like to see:
- Original Favorites
- Independent
- Dehen 1920
- Arborwear
- Ironheart
- Flint and Tinder
The best sweatshirt is one that makes me body look like a stone block like a granite golem freakshow like making my body look like gods golden creation under harsh mid day lighting the best sweatshirt is one that will make me body look so interesting that if you took a picture of me it would burn in on your screen and break your phone FOREVER the best sweatshirt is one that I can wear to the gym and make it smell like my sweat and a handful of talcum powder
super looper french terry with random sized loops ... 13.2 OZ. Most amazing sweaters, must try those.
7:07 please sir I need id on that sweater
L.L. Bean organic cotton waffle knit sweater
Los Angeles apparel would be sick for to see in part 2
Mike you have to try Illicit Bloc hoodie, the quality is amazing, made in England as well
Once you go wonder looper you can't go back... Though the Buzz Rickson is also amazing.
The Tracksmith sweatshirts are really nice. Would love to know who makes them for that brand.
MY GUY - what size is the Champion? It’s perfect. We are roughly the same height/build.
Always appreciate your content.
Been wearing American giant for years. They are the best. They hold up great over time and they are warm. This should be a criteria though tricky to measure
