Part 2? Do we want a part 2? I kinda do…. **also, final lists are in the desc. sorry if it got cut off by YT things** Hello everyone! Just wanted to say I tried as hard as I possibly could to rate these fairly but it’s not perfect (of course). You may rank something way higher due to your own preferences so I included all the sliders here too. Also, the SWAG factor is because there are some more intangible things that are hard to add to the overall ranking (loopwheel for example may be very important to someone but worthless to someone else). Lastly, some of you may love heavy weight and others may love light weight. The reason it’s used in the overall value calculation is due to taking the amount of material used into account for the price. Again, not perfect but gave it a shot!
Bronson has super heavy sweatshirts for a part 2. 21oz military reverse weave seems to be a repro of vintage Champion. I do find the neck opening on it too small for me but yeah. It's there, it's very high quality and really quite cheap.
I've always said that. It's probably because he has little time for videos, so he's not able to put out multiple videos a week and is lucky to have weekly so he doesn't reach as many people. His older ones had a lot more humor in the editing, which has been high quality for a while, but he's also started a clothing line of his own. He first made a denim jacket ( the prologue) and a black denim jacket, then a wool jacket(the mammoth) , and special edition jacket. And recently he redid the prologue in a different fit and company, and chapter 1, his selvedge denim jeans that I'm super excited to get and have been wanting for months now. I should be receiving them in November sometime. I have a ton of jeans, but I wish the jacket was here already. This is one of my favorite people on UA-cam. We all love Michael. Happy you are here!
Honestly everybody needs some fashion advice. I’ve binge watched his videos for a while now, and found my own style I like. All because of what he talked about. I also know what could go with what, and what will work and not work together. It’s a channel that’s not popping off but it’s the quality of his videos with information that is so useful, you can use it for yourself as well
I live in Tokyo, am not so bothered about clothes (wear a bunch of Uniqlo mainly) but I honestly find it fascinating to watch these videos. Subscribed!
I have not heard Camber mentioned in years. I sold them next to Carhartt for 15 years. They use to make a USA made heavyweight thermal lined hoodie. The zip-up version got me through a few years of winters at PSU Main. Then I lost it in a move. RIP great hoodie.
Yeah, he took their lightest weight sweatshirt (12oz) for the video, but it also has the highest cotton percentage of their blends (90/10). They have a chill buster 14 oz and an arctic thermal 19oz that are both 50/50 cotton poly blend. They have their industrial stuff as well, 20oz or 24oz 90/10 blends or one 100% cotton jacket. They are all still made in their worn down factory outside of Philly.
@@doubledubs5644 I think the arctic thermal was the one I had years ago. I sold so many of those back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. Damn good hoodies. Wish mine didn’t walk off. I’m sure it would look rough by now, bust it would still be functional.
"Arborwear Cotton Double Thick", da best. It's 2x13oz sweaters sewn together to make the best work sweater of all time and it fits a hardhat under the hood but without one you kinda look like a sith lord, I ordered an athletic grey version for at home.
Got it for my GF, she loves it around the house. Unfortunately we're in Texas and it's still 80 degrees in November so she hasn't gotten to try it outside... 💔
Camber makes a better one (I own both) the 441 where the pile of the two fleece layers is sewn together as not to leave any soft material exposed, leading to less lint and better insulation. Where the Arborware sweater's two fleece panels are sewn front to back instead of the cambers back to back.

Hey Michael, I saw LA Apparel in your list at 0:34. Sad they didn't make it on there! I've been collecting their hoodies and crewnecks on their depop page for all under $10 the past couple months. Quality and fit are both great and I have a couple of their double layer ones and they might be the best hoodies I've ever owned.
Their double layer vision samples are insane for the value. The yeezy season 6 hoodie has been my favorite hoodie for quite a long time. Their "puffy fleece" is wonderful.
Fantastic video, Mikey. Yes, please do a part 2. Btw love my American Giant hoodie, and it has reinforced elbows.... like you said it's a little overkill but fantastic.
Once bought a GAT Sneaker from them. Thought it would be great, as they also sell vintage ones under their vintage shop line, but I was extremely disappointed. The shape was terrible, quality control had major issues and the material was worse then adidas. I really wanted to like them, but after wearing them for a few months, they ended up being the worst quality and comfort sneakers I've ever had, even Reebok club C were miles Infront of them. A shame, really, but maybe it was only with this product

Hey Michael! I personally am a huge fan of vintage Russell, and that's partly because they made all of L.L. Bean's sweats way back in the day. Most of them came with a really cool Russell x L.L. Bean collab label. Love this video, and of course would really like to see a second one. If you are interested, I would be very happy to lend you an excellent Bean vintage sweatshirt if you would like to review it! Also, so very excited for the mammoth jacket v2.0! @@get_your_mood_right_ lmfao I am in the rebuilding-the-wardrobe phase. Literally just went through my closet to go cotton hunting amd have been thrifting work shirts lmao.
@TheIronSnail Important to note that Reigning Champ has moved a large part (if not the entirety) of their productions to SE Asia. People have noted a decrease in quality. The sweatshirt you purchased may be the last of the "Made in Canada" models, so ironically, owning one with a bacon-y collar might be for the best.
Came to mention this. I used to buy stuff from them all the time. Just unsubscribed from their email marketing last week. I'm done with them completely.
Person who has been doing sweatshirts for 35 yrs and put 10's of millions on peoples backs. Good luck finding a heather color you like in pure cotton. You would have to fibre dye it in a blowroom - this is pretty common in flat knit sweaters - but tends to look way better in wools than cottons there too - and hitting the right tones is tough. In circular knit on a heather, you are going to want 10-30% polyester or nylon for the depth it adds, as the polyester/nylon thread take on less color in the same time and temperature as a pure cotton thread would, so the mixed yarn will have that irregular and natural looking heathering in a way that you otherwise will likely not reach. Also - if you are brushing the back (inside) more heavily, that synthetic will make it much softer and more voluminous to start - but will lead to more pilling on the inside. The pure cotton will likely shed more if brushed on the loop. I have not seen the Abercrombie sweat - but the softness would be a mix of carbon brushing the face fabric lightly and probably washing no more than one time. The polyester will give more stability of fabric in both of these processes - and if the wash is longer - it may also be to avoid twisting and irregular shrinkage in the wash process. Excellent video as always
This is serious deep work, I wish to buy less but high high quality and if more expensive so BE it! Could you do a series of the MOST comfortable hoodies, sweat pants that also looks the most stylish for that ultimate WFH set?
LOVED this video!! Extremely informative and I especially loved the details on how much they may shrink since that is the biggest struggle I have when buying clothes in general. Thank you lots!
Loved this video. Always looking for solid recommendations on sweat, hoodie, and t shirts… I have a American Giant full zip moto and absolutely love the weight, feel and cut. I’ll look into some of the brands mentioned in this video. Also, great hair & cut, curious as to what product you might be using? It really enhances the texture and cut while remaining natural looking and not too coiffed. Effortless. Well done!
I find vintage Russell (made in USA) excels in the fit. I size up to an XXL in their crewneck, and I get the most perfect baggy arms, but still a tight cuff on the neck and arms. A 50/50 cotton/poly is not great on paper, but I cannot deny it is one of my favourite crewnecks to wear.
The made in USA Russell sweaters are amazing! I actually have found 3 at the thrift store recently, M, XL, and XXL. The fit is great, sort of cropped compared to modern sweaters. Two of the ones I found are actually 95% cotton 5% polyester. The material is thicker and feels so much nicer than newer ones.
Depends on which Made in the USA. The 70’s and 80’s ones are in my opinion warmer and thicker than the early 90’s Made in the USA. I was very lucky to find someone a while back selling 70’s and 80s w/ tags for $10-15
For anyone wondering just how heavy the Wonder Looper Double Heavyweight French Terry Foxfibre is in practice - My set of hooded zip and sweatpants comes in at exactly 3kg.
You’ve got to review Todd Synder x Champion sweatshirts. They basically brought back nice equality hoodies. They have a cult-like following, and for good reason.
My favorite sweatshirt is a black turtleneck TS x Champion sweatshirt. Perfect weight, super comfortable, loose enough turtleneck to not feel restrictive but not so loose it looks weird and it still blocks the wind. $35 on poshmark, some of the best money I've ever spent
I have 3 Champion reverse weave sweatshirts that I still wear a couple times a week. They are from my college days, 40 years ago! I bought my kid the same sweatshirt last week and it feels the same! I wish I could say that about some of my new vs old Filson Wool jackets and vests.
I have some vintage (original owner) Champion reverse weave made in the USA NYC 100% cotton Men’s Large never seen the dryer that I can let you borrow one for a video. Oh, and yes the Vintage Russell pill like crazy I may have one of those but so rough.
Big fan of the American Giant sweatshirts. If you ever do a sweatshorts video, I really like the ones AG makes. Heavy compared to most other brands but still comfortable in the summer. Just wish they had the single back pocket that Uniqlo puts on their shorts.
Just wanted to mention that I work in construction and buy the zip up version of the Russell hoody, usually around $15. They make it about 3 years of almost daily wear from October-April. Not a bad value for me. The cheap zippers haven’t even failed on me.
AsColour is a company originally based out of New Zealand that makes blanks for wholesale, their stencil hoodie is $50 and has been excellent. For me, it has been the perfect weight of hoodie (warm enough to keep you comfy walking outside to like 50F, but not so warm you have to take it off inside), feels amazing, has a wide variety of rich color options, and the one first one I bought had survived a years beating well enough that I bought 3 more. Amazing quality for price as they are $35 on sale right now.
My favorite sweatshirt is a 90s russell sweatshirt, its black, very comfy, and its very well made and sort of thick. Its oversized by two sizes. (im XL its a 3X) Ive had it for about 5 years with no pilling or destitching. I skate and have hit rough pavement very fast in it a few times with no significant damage. Its great. I cannot speak for russell hoodies or russells newer clothes.
I want to shout out the in-house brand of Roopa Knitting Mills in Toronto, House of Blanks. I've noticed several different companies use their hoodies including Tellason, Todd Snyder, Muttonhead, 3sixteen, and allegedly Aime Leon Dore and Supreme. From what I can tell any hoodie made in Toronto is likely them. I have both their crewnecks and hoodies and they're great, especially if you can get them on sale (I got mine on sale from a small Canadian streetwear store called Swagger Like Me).
It's a real shame this video didn't include HoB or UniformLA, those are the two brands I actually hear recommended and endorsed most frequently in these circles.
I have this one loopwheel crew neck from N&F, and the bottom stretched out, and I tried everything, it wont go back. It was my favorite one, too. The other 2 are great and bounce back, and the new ones are flat seams on the sides and sleeves, so they're incredibly nice. I'll have to get a new charcoal one, though...
Do you have one? How is the fit? I have the regular classic full zip from AG and I wish I had returned it, it's much too long and slim. The fit feels like a relic from the early 2010's.
You should know that the final graphic with the whole rankings, the last 20 seconds here, gets covered with links to 1 your channel, and 2 another of your videos, making it impossible to read the actual results. Of course we can go back and look at what all the individual sweaters were, but thats some work. It would be great to be able to read the graphic and all the items and their score... maybe you could extend the graphic another 20 seconds so that the overlays dont cover it. Thanks for putting this together though. Very useful and fun!
Yeezy season 6 and LAAs "puffy fleece" is my absolute go to for favorite hoodies and crew necks. LAA also has their double layer pullovers which are crazy for the value.
My mom used to work for reigning champ and this is in Canada, they move their factory to Vietnam now unfortunately so also got layed off. I assume the quality has changed or might change.
I have a handful of vintage russell sweatshirts/hoodies and at least the 90s/early 2000s ones don't have pilling issues. Russell is also known for a great boxy fit! My guess is you got a 70s russell hoodie and I can't speak for the quality on those
While watching this video and the "internet's favorite T-Shirt" (both great btw) I started to think about sizing and how it effects the styling of these products. It's great that you list your proportions but here's the thing; The size variation for most of these products is a uniform increase in length and width, usually with one (width in my experience) increasing more than the other. Meaning the fit of a product changes relative to the wear-er. TLDR; Can you make an episode about industry standard patterns, cuts, and sizing? Pretty please
I’m not sure if they still exist, but I bought a champion x Todd synder hoodie a million years ago and it’s still the best hoodie I’ve ever owned. I’ve washed it a ton and she has held up exceptionally well.
I have new champion and Russel sweatshirts. The champion feels like it will last for ever. The Russel is already pilling and collar has stretch out a tonne
I own the American giant hoodie and the flint and tinder (huckberry) hoodie. Both are really great. I’m sure there’s probably nicer out there, but it’s minuscule amount for the price jump. Champion is decent for the price but as they are now a mall brand, it’s only a matter of time before their stuff is going to go down in quality, while going up in price.
Hey Michael, any chance you’ll be able to review some good brown leather jackets for the fall season? Yes specifically brown because brown is a classic fall color. Also it’ll look good with jeans or khakis, and some color of shirts like white and black and navy blue
I have a rule with hoodies, if I can see my stomach stick out when I lift my arms up, it's a no go. I got the American Giant hoodie and while it feels quite nice, it fits like a large when I bought an XL which is really weird. Tummy shows on the arm lift test so I'm gonna send it back.
Great comment about the neck on the Camber. Very true and I don’t even have a thick neck. I have two of their hoodies and I had to take them both to a tailor to have her put a V in the neck so they weren’t constantly choking me.
Camber is great. They're the brand my construction company provides. The only problem I have with it is that the hood is kind of small/short and pulls down on my head when I wear it which is irritating
Love your videos as always! You crunched countless hours of research into a concise 20min vid. Thought Brut and American Giant would score higher based on your explanation and was hoping B.Rickson would get more screen time. Excited for part 2!
Thanks for the awesome videos, Mike! I'm a bit of a sweatshirt nerd, and some of my favorites are Birdwell, Todd Snyder/Champion collabs and a few Outerknown. Cheers!
I have a Fjallraven Greenland sweater back from 2019 when they still made them. It’s my go to crewneck and is phenomenal, not a comfy sweater at all but is built like a tank
What about Duluth or certain Gildan styles? Old Abercrombie was so much better 10-15 yrs ago. So were skateboard brands like Element before being bought out. Thanks for doing this! I'm a nerd for this content ♡
@TheIronSnail I don't think the YT overlords will allow you to change it. I believe the only option to get around it is just to count it in editing your timeline and adding time to the video for it. So nice of them to do that to everyone.
Great video. Ami Paris lover myself. Threw the rest I owned away. Can you make recommendations for good looking, comfortable winter boots? For New York weather
OMG I just found this amazing channel thank you for making such informative and interesting reviews of each sweatshirts, I especially love the different BGM haha
I would add Flint & Tinder, Brave Star and WEK to the mix. WEK sweatshirt has to be upsized unless you're going to follow the washing instruction of "lay flat to dry".
I have a ton of American Giant (i live near an outlet store they have), truly love their stuff. My current favorite crew neck sweatshirt though is Freenote Cloth, a Californian denim brand. Its like 18oz cotton and just fits amazing, awesome construction, made in America. One of my absolute favorite articles of clothing. Any part 2 should include a Naked and Famous crewneck sweatshirt. I have 2 and they're pretty great.
I bought a Russell sweater from Amazon and expected the same quality from the 90s. I wish I had videos with time stamps how quickly it started to pill. Almost within 5 minutes of wearing it
Great video! Love my Reverse weave both vintage MiUSA as well as newer-ish or present day pieces. I have to say though I recently got a Velva Sheen MiUSA Hoodie that is also really awesome!! Please include Velva Sheen if you do a part II 🤝
Would you consider doing a video on cotton bed sheets? It seems like sheets have fallen victim to the same cost-cutting and worse materials as clothing, but there have to be some good brands out there still that offer comfortable and long-lasting products (I've heard good things about Red Land Cotton).
I’ve had a chase crewneck for years and it’s still in great nick, superb quality. I will say, Cole Buxton or even Represent blank sweatshirts blow them out the water.
My best sweatshirt is a Levis one weirdly that I bought 7-8 years ago. 100% cotton, one of my most worn items but still going strong. Absolutely love it. Can't help but fear that the quality on the newer ones is probably not the same as it was sadly when the time comes to replace it.
Mr Micheal. I have but one question, why is the clothing on your site that expensive? I know it’s super duper high quality. However, when I was attempting to buy one I noticed the price tag, can you please help me justify that price?
Since I hate fuzz balls and pilling IMO the first two sweaters were easily the best ones. Thanks to your video I ordered one from Unico. The internet ranking is nuts. Weird in that I have to order from an obscure retailer to get a basic sweatshirt.
velour garments make great hoodies/sweatshirts, they run a bit big though but their 450gsm hoodie is a personal favourite apart from the hood as it doesn't have a stitch around the edge
One sweatshirt I would check out are the russell llbean sweat shirt line really good quality and 95% cotton and 5% polyster I would say on par with champion and usually run 45 to 50 second hand

My #1 concern is how soft is the cotton? Construction comes second. That would make Whitesville my #1 sweatshirt.
The brand Patagonia made a name for themselves innovating with synthetic fiber sweaters because they shed moisture. I’ll take a blend any day.
Depends on which Made in the USA. The 70’s and 80’s ones are in my opinion warmer and thicker than the early 90’s Made in the USA. I was very lucky to find someone a while back selling 70’s and 80s w/ tags for $10-15
Superb work. May i suggest, Sunspel loopback (i live just down the road from the Long Eaton factory), Jackman, Cushman, LVC Bay Meadows.
When you’re talking shrink percentage, is that just throwing it in the wash and hang drying, or do you use a dryer?
When going the shrink percentage, are the dried in the dryer or air dried? Sorry if already asked. Great video.
Camber is great, but the hood is just too small and the eyelets oxidised on mine and stained the front greeny yellow.
When did a plain sweatshirt get so expensive???
My favorite sweatshirt is a 90s russell sweatshirt, its black, very comfy, and its very well made and sort of thick. Its oversized by two sizes. (im XL its a 3X) Ive had it for about 5 years with no pilling or destitching. I skate and have hit rough pavement very fast in it a few times with no significant damage. Its great. I cannot speak for russell hoodies or russells newer clothes.
Probably 3XL as is a Woman's or a kids model
Where's the 14th? Mertz B is on the spreadsheet 0:34 , then got no love in the video. Disqualified for being too expensive? Or saved for part2 ??
I get my Wonder Looper Foxfibre sweater on wed. Can’t wait!
You should try the Bronson Mfg 21 oz Military Academy hoodie. I got one a couple months ago and I've worn it almost every day since
Carhartt makes great sweaters especially crewnecks
I have this one loopwheel crew neck from N&F, and the bottom stretched out, and I tried everything, it wont go back. It was my favorite one, too. The other 2 are great and bounce back, and the new ones are flat seams on the sides and sleeves, so they're incredibly nice. I'll have to get a new charcoal one, though...
American giant has a variant of their hooded sweatshirt called Relaxed Classic Full Zip which you really should try. absolutely awesome.
0:07 As someone who has an amassed a small pile of AG sweatshirts and hoodies. They really are amazing. Now to watch the rest of the video.
Man you've gotta try the Cole Buxton ones, those are one of the best sweatshirts and crewnecks I have atm
I don't quite understand the point of super heavy sweatshirts. I'd rather wear wool if it's that cold.
Folded back cuff, or unfolded? Which is the correct way to wear?
Great video as always! I personally would love part 2 and strongly considering purchasing a Camber hoodie! Thank you
I’m not sure if they still exist, but I bought a champion x Todd synder hoodie a million years ago and it’s still the best hoodie I’ve ever owned. I’ve washed it a ton and she has held up exceptionally well.
They do still exist and they’re still fire
I have new champion and Russel sweatshirts. The champion feels like it will last for ever. The Russel is already pilling and collar has stretch out a tonne
I own the American giant hoodie and the flint and tinder (huckberry) hoodie. Both are really great. I’m sure there’s probably nicer out there, but it’s minuscule amount for the price jump. Champion is decent for the price but as they are now a mall brand, it’s only a matter of time before their stuff is going to go down in quality, while going up in price.
I'm cross shopping the Filson, Huckberry, and Cuts hoodies. Can't decide. All around the same price. Would love to know your thoughts.
Also would be happy to send it to you so long as I get it back lol
house of blanks is a brand to scope out. the French terry inner for activewear i think it has your list beat if you want it for working out.
please make a video teaching about high quality clothing details, i tried looking up bound neck collar and the first result was bdsm gear
What about Duluth or certain Gildan styles? Old Abercrombie was so much better 10-15 yrs ago. So were skateboard brands like Element before being bought out.
Thanks for doing this! I'm a nerd for this content ♡
Might be a moble-specific thing but the total rankings graph is not visible due to the UA-cam cards at the end of the video.
I’m trying to figure out how to remove it for this vid! I posted the rankings in the description because of it
@TheIronSnail I don't think the YT overlords will allow you to change it.
Just picked up a Dehen 1920 heavyweight hoodie, becoming one of my favorites.
Review on tomorrows laundry and also Carhartt work in Progress? Wanted to see your take on those.
Great video once again! Keep em comin’. Just bought my first Levis shrink to fits because of your video on them.
Almost within 5 minutes of wearing it
Am I insane or di you give uniqlo a 6.3 in the review but a 4.75 in the ranking?
Early 90's Champion hoodies / sweatshirts were the king indeed !!
Love those things! Even the women’s ones!
When you say ‘washed’… does that mean washed and dried in a drier? Or- washed and then air dried? Thanks!
I am quite surprised that Carharrt did not make the list? Please review them in a part 2!!!
I’ve had a chase crewneck for years and it’s still in great nick, superb quality. I will say, Cole Buxton or even Represent blank sweatshirts blow them out the water.
It's wild to see you with so many subscribers. I remember finding your channel at 15k. Crazy to see the blow up!
Mikey, my beautiful man, what's the tectures knit mock neck you're wearing in between shots?
My best sweatshirt is a Levis one weirdly that I bought 7-8 years ago. 100% cotton, one of my most worn items but still going strong. Absolutely love it. Can't help but fear that the quality on the newer ones is probably not the same as it was sadly when the time comes to replace it.
Why did you lost the price of the Russell as $169 when you kept talking about how inexpensive it was? Did you stick an extra digit in there?
It looks like you accidentally priced it the same as the next sweater on the list (Brut)
super looper french terry with random sized loops ... 13.2 OZ. Most amazing sweaters, must try those.
Mike you have to try Illicit Bloc hoodie, the quality is amazing, made in England as well
Hey Michael, where is that waffle shirt with the rollneck from? I love the color. You're wearing it during the post-recorded scenes
velour garments make great hoodies/sweatshirts, they run a bit big though but their 450gsm hoodie is a personal favourite apart from the hood as it doesn't have a stitch around the edge
The Tracksmith sweatshirts are really nice. Would love to know who makes them for that brand.
Fell in love with j crew 14oz hoodie a couple years ago and haven’t looked back. I like the tall versions if that helps 😉
One sweatshirt I would check out are the russell llbean sweat shirt line really good quality and 95% cotton and 5% polyster I would say on par with champion and usually run 45 to 50 second hand
The independent 450gm legend is a very good hoodie! 13.5 oz very heavy and good weaves
