  • Just a little “ride along” video on the 2023 Beta Xtrainer 300 from a few weeks ago on some PA trails that follow along local highways. No commentary or music. Just engine sounds in the woods. I'll be back to wrenching on bikes in next week's video...hopefully.

Hey G2T! Great ride along video showcasing the power of the Beta! Just picked one up for myself and I’m loving it. I’ve a few questions about you camera setup. What camera do you use and how do you mount it to your helmet? Also what setting do you use? Thanks! Happy riding!

Thank you! How many hours do you have on yours so far and what kind of trails do you ride? I’m currently using a very outdated GoPro Hero session 4 recording in 60fps and 1080p. The grainy video and shaky camera is driving me nuts when I put out these riding videos lol. I have it mounted right on the front of the mouth guard on the helmet.

@@Garage2Trail I have about 4 hours so far, I’ll be going out again this weekend. I ride similar single track up here in the New England area. Mostly state forest trails and other tire tracks I find. All rocky, rooty, and muddy but always fun, and flowing. Thanks for the camera specs. I’ve got a session 5 that I’ve used for recording snowboarding and snowmobiling. I’ll look into getting a mouth guard mount for my helmet. Auto stabilization works well enough but still shakes a lot but I don’t mind it too much because it gives me a more immersive feel when I go back and watch my clips.

How do you like the seat?
When your bike is idling and you pull the clutch in do you notice how the rattle sounds get quieter?
Reminds me of a Ducati dry clutch
I have a Victory Vision (900lbs) when I ride the xtrainer I’m all over the place. The x is so light

The seat is ok. Def not as comfy as the XR but it gets the job done lol. Yeah I notice the clutch sound too. It’s such a featherweight and easy to throw around!

So what did you think of it? I'm about to go for my first ride on my Xtrainer as soon as the weather clears up.

Im loving this bike. It’s a really fun woods bike that doesn’t wear you out and for a short guy like myself it fits me just right. After 20+ years of riding XR400s as my main bike, I get on this thing and just don’t tire out. I feel like I’m throwing a mountain bike around lol. Doesn’t mean I’m selling my XRs but for those “serious” rides when the guys go for the hard loops this will be my primary weapon.

@@Garage2Trail man, people keep commenting on how light the bike is, but for my first dirt bike... it's 230 lbs! This thing is heavy! I guess I need to become a better rider. Heh.

Hi there, how is the XTrainer's stability on more open trails, in particular in comparison to the other Betas and your XRs? I had a very short ride on one and found it a bit twitchy, especially on a loose, slippery downhill. It could just be that I am used to the engine braking of a 4 stroke. I am not looking to desert race, just cruise around the trails, some of which are fairly open and rocky.

I’ve heard others say the same but maybe I’m just used to soft suspension coming off the XR because I’m not noticing it too much if at all. Now granted I only have 4 hrs on it so far, but it’s felt good so far. I’m thinking the twitchy feeling that people are experiencing is a combo of the plush suspension and short wheelbase. Also a good point about the engine braking. It’s one thing I’m still adjusting to compared to the XR400. When I go back and forth on the bikes it’s very noticeable. Compared to the other betas I rode on that demo day, it was mainly the suspension feel that I noticed. The RR models were def sprung heavier and work great when pushed hard but I still felt most comfortable on the XT. Maybe the XRs ruined me over time lol.

@@Garage2Trail Thanks, I am an XR fan myself. I still have a 1982 XR200R, great little bike. I used to have an XR600R and with its engine braking you never needed to use the rear brake off road (just as well because the rear drum brake was useless). Somehow Honda made the XRs both stable and sharp turning. I have a 2014 WR450F, no issues with stability there, but its a handful in tight stuff. I agree about the nice plush suspension on the XTrainer, after I got back from the short ride I realized I had not felt the little bumps that normally jar back through the bars. It's what impressed me most. I looked online for the for the XTrainer front suspension rake and trail specs to compare with the other models, which should indicate stability, but couldn't find them.

Yeah the XT has the ability to float over stuff like roots so much easier than my XRs that like getting sucked into ruts real easy but could handle the roots with all its inertia. As you said the engine braking on the XR is so good for descending technical stuff because it would almost act as antilock brakes lol. I just got a 2002 XR200 running on my channel and used to have an 87 XR200 in the mid 90s. That’s one I wish I would have kept with the lights and long travel suspension. I also have my XR650R that I ride when I feel like possibly killing myself in the woods 😂. What a rocket ship on the roads and open stuff though! She’s plated as well.

@@Garage2Trail I agree that the 87 XR200R is the one to get. They were road legal here in Australia (what you call plated in the US). Most XRs were road legal here. The bike I have got my eye on as the next best thing to a small XR is a second hand DRZ250. Road legal in Australia, up to 10 years newer than an XR250R, decent suspension, electric start and air cooled simplicity.
