    I speak English poorly. I watch your videos in sections, it's fun to listen to you. I have little experience with the horror genre and I'm getting more and more interested in reading in this area. Thanks for the great inspiration and creepy greeds

    I agree on Chuck Palahniuk, you need to dial in to his frequency to enjoy his work.

    Read The Snowman by Jo Nesbo. Amazing thriller. The killer builds a snowman in front of the house of every victim. I love it. Don't watch the movie, it's so bad it can't be worse.

    Grady Hendrix’s My Best Friend’s Exorcism is SO GOOD! That’s honestly the only one of his novels (so far) that I’ve read, and it blew me away. It might be a good one to read to try his novels again.

    I liked How to Sell a Haunted House but really loved Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix. It's funny because I don't like the comedic horror genre in movies, but enjoy it in book form. 🤷🏻‍♀️
    T. Kingfisher is hit or miss for me. Try The Hollow Places. It's a little fantastical but super creepy.

    I think I will have to put The Wager on my waiting list from the library! It sounds fascinating.
    I dont tend to read very many new releases but I loved Bloom by Delilah S Dawson! Sapphic horror? Yes please!

    I personally really loved How to Sell a Haunted House. I can understand how some may be disappointed. It is pretty silly, but to I found it hilarious, and a really enjoyable read. Grady Hendrix doesn’t always take himself seriously, and there is a lot of humor, intentional or not, in a lot of what he writes.

    I must say…your videos have inspired me to start reading again. I never was an avid reader but recently bought a kindle and have read several books including some of your suggestions! Black Mouth and Library at Mount Char are two I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. My question, if I wanted to start a Darcy Coates book which book or series do you recommend first? Thanks again for all great comments and suggestions!

      I'm glad to hear that! It depends on what you feel like reading. Romance- Voices in the Snow, ghosts- The Haunting of Leigh Harker, more horrorish- Hunted, or my person favorite- From Below. These of my top recs off the top of my head.

    If you're gonna ready another Grady Hendrix, try The Southern book clubs guide to slaying vampires. (Desperate housewives meets Jennifer's body) campy vibe but a very fun read.

    Maybe I’ll try the palahniuk! I similarly was obsessed with him in early college, read everything my dad had of his on his shelf. Then I think I read Damned which I thought was bad and I was told what Pygmy was, and haven’t tried one since, I’ve heard basically all are bad. I also tried the fight club 2 graphic novel and thought it was just horrible!! Maybe this one’s for me though what you described was very me lol

    I loved The Shards sooooo much and it was the first BEE book I’ve read. I liked that I wasn’t familiar with his other work because it was so unlike anything else I’ve read!! There were so many things I loved about it, might be my favorite book ever, sad that I feel it will be a long time until I read something else that comes close

    Hilarious to me how all the reasons you didn't like The Only One Left were the same reasons why I think it's a five-out-of-five lol
    I read Darcy Coates's "Where He Can't Find You" and loved it, didn't realize she also published like forty other books the same year haha

    • @AndaKent
      @AndaKent  5 місяців тому +1

      This is why I find reading so interesting! It's so subjective. Where He Can't Find You is one of the only ones I haven't read yet because it was technically a YA and I wasn't sure how I would feel about it. Do you think it's worth the read?

    • @Blackenedwhiplash
      @Blackenedwhiplash 5 місяців тому

      @@AndaKent I think so, it didn't feel very YA to me, it was still creepy and gruesome at parts. I didn't even know it was YA until I was logging my rating on Storygraph. It was also the first Darcy Coates book I've read, so I didn't have anything to compare it to. But to me, it didn't feel YA it felt like a regular horror novel that happened to have high school protagonists, like a lot of Stephen King's novels.

    I do not understand the hype for Grady Hendrix. I've read Final Girls and Horrorstor, his prose is really bland and his stories don't have the punch that I think they need. And I like 80's slashers too so I'm not sure what's not clicking

      @thedemonpigs5272 5 місяців тому

      @AndaKent Extreme horror doesn't bother me at all but I can't put my finger on why I didn't like it but then loads of people enjoyed the Jo Nesbo book. Maeve Fly was well written but I think I expected more maybe after all the hype. So lesson learnt don't follow the crowd 🤣🤣 Have you read A Haunting On the Hill? another disappointment for me.

    • @AndaKent
      @AndaKent  5 місяців тому +1

      @@thedemonpigs5272 That is true. Sometimes books are overhyped and they just can't live up to what you think they'll be. No, I haven't. It's supposed to be the second to a Shirley Jackson book?? I've never heard of this one.

    • @thedemonpigs5272
      @thedemonpigs5272 5 місяців тому

      @AndaKent Again some people loved it, you should just read the last 20 pages as that is the only action. It was a relative of Shirley Jackson who agreed for the book to be written. It could have been so good too.
