Maurice was really the George Harrison of the Bee Gees. he said that he kind of felt unworthy of the success and fame he had. But really, Barry and Robin might have been the bricks, but he was the mortar. He had a naturally low voice, but he could hit really high notes, too. He would weave his harmony in wherever it was needed, on the very top, the bottom, or in between. He was the mortar on a personal level, too. Barry and Robin had a complicated relationship, and Maurice had to be the go-between many times. It's not coincidence that Barry and Robin never recorded together again after Mo died.

@@trovey02 - Both did however have a volvulus. Robin would have died within days from that too had his doctor not known Mo died from the same condition. Robin was sent home to monitor his abdominal pain but called back to the hospital for immediate surgery. His surgeries had complications plus his overly strict vegan diet (not wise for anyone with a gastrointestinal abnormality) meant when the cancer was found meant Robin was malnourished and as a result couldn't tolerate the rigors of heavy chemo needed for his cancer and his liver and kidneys shut down. Their shared condition since birth (an extra loop of bowel that could twist at any time) did have some connection in that sense. One died from the immediate result of the twist that caused a heart attack due to rupture and loss of blood while the other was weakened by the same condition over a period of time.

Loved Maurice - and read so many interviews with Barry & Robin where they said he just listened to them and knew *exactly* where to place his harmonies to complement them perfectly. Also I hadn’t realised that despite his low range, he was the highest harmony in many of their earlier songs, like Nights on Broadway. And as the peacemaker, joker and diplomat in the group, there’s no doubt he helped them stay together as long as they did… Wonderful man who died way too young. Thanks so much for this, Fil.

According to him it should’ve been Robin because his voice was much higher than Barry’s. You can tell that by how hard Barry has to work to do it. When Robin sings very high it’s effortless.

Thank you for critiquing sweet Maurice. He had a wonderfully expressive voice and he was a musical genius playing so many instruments by ear. He was totally amazing on his bass guitar and the keyboard. He said he wanted to play bass because his idol Paul McCartney played it. He had an awesome vocal range and could sing high and low notes. And I adored his sexy speaking voice. Mo was the group's peacekeeper as he said he was just like his mom was peacekeeper between their dad and he and his brothers. He was also musical arranger for the band. Barry has said so many times that Mo was absolutely the best arranger he had ever seen and that he was irreplaceable to the band. As Barry said Mo always knows just where to put that third harmony. As far as Barry was concerned the Bee Gees officially ended with Mo's untimely and shocking death. Barry was totally crushed and could not go on pretending to be the Bee Gees. Andy's death at such a young age devastated Barry and then Mo's sudden passing just about finished him off. As far as Barry was concerned the day Mo died is the day the Bee Gees died. 😢😢😢

Thank you for this reaction Fil. Just for you to know, this concert in particular had a very big sound problem, it was not the backing track. That was in fact the very last concert, but 'Live by Request' recorded few months before, was released as the final one because of that reason. That problem made the boys sound bad during the whole performance, anyway they were perfect as always, that perfect that they never interrupted the concert or complained about anything, IMHO they should've. Even in the end Maurice made Barry turn around and say goodbye to the audience, because he left the stage immediately, he was so embarrassed.

Yes! It was the backing track that caused that!
One could see that they were both listening searching... Maurice in this song both in composing and recording it, had to actually searched for and accept this particular way of singing/ relating it.. I myself never felt that it was his 'forever' natural singing voice.. some talking to you is deep in there. I don't think that Maurice Gibb ever spent time with himself to find his 'who he really was', so he did not totally 'come over' fully on stage..maby in recordings?? But certainly inside of the Keys and the Strings...yes that's where he was at home.
I always wished I would be there to open that up..I know I could.
