I did this just to show everyone what happens. I made a new file and I'm playing through the game again right now!
If you decide not to help, you just return to the Title Screen. Nothing special...
F - 22 but i think this moment was fulfilling if you choose to sacrifice your data to help a stranger get to the happy ending. the way 9s sacrificed his data to save 2b in the beggining. when 2b sacrificed herself to save 9s in the beginning of part c. and a2 saving 9s at the end. making the decision to sacrifice my data to rescue someone else made me feel closer to these characters. it wasnt a hard decision to make because im willing to play this dope game all over again.

Yup I let it delete my data. I was like "lol what's gonna happen? They're NOT going to actually delete my data right?" To my utter dismay...

I *think*, and I might be wrong, only one person might be needed to 'rescue' you, and thats the one data thats used, and then it just pulls other people who have given up their data. I have no idea though, not sure about the mechanics going on with it but I'm really curious as to how it works.
the bullet hell is literally impossible.
when you reach a certain point, the letters get invincible... so the point here is that we help each other out of selflessness.

this happened in the first Nier, so yeah if it's telling you it's going to delete everything, then it will.

And people still made 20 minute long rant videos and freaked the heck out (despite half of them having backed up their files already)

No, and it doesn't need to be on a flash drive either. Just make a copy of the save file and place it in a different folder inside your PC.
level 99, 100 hours of gameplay, platinum trophy. I cried during that outro chorus then gave my save file after. Hope it helps someone out, what a game :)

If the first players who got the game when it came out no one had beaten the text so how did the people who tried to get ending e get help? You have to finish the game to get the option to save someone else so the first player didn't have that option lol

That ending bullet hell was a nightmare. I made it nearly to the end with no damage, then everything went to shit. Death after death. Thank you everyone who sacrificed yourselves to help the rest of us
Cole Jenkins same. I didn't start dying until shit got real. I'm glad that I can help someone else get ending E even if there were things I still wanted to do in the game

You know it did nothing though right? There plenty of bots in that sequence for the first ever players (and some players went through like 30 helpers lol)

Hentai Maestro back up your save data then do it. Because to be quite honest while I'm all for helping people out and being selfless, I don't think I want to delete all that work and have to do every single thing all over again
A true test of selflessness, packing hours upon hours of grinding finding and fighting to unlock to experience and to enjoy yourself...And the game asks you, simply to let it all go just to help a random person who you may or may not know, hate or love. If you had the conviction to give that all away some that someone somewhere can have an extra life-You guys are the true meaning of humanity
Takacuntoi Senpai!!! I pumped 62 hours in and got 100% in everything thing but fishing. It took me 20 hours just to get ending y. It was not easy to do all of that. But hey, if you can't say goodbye at the end, did you ever really play.

This is how you end a game.
I don't regret deleting everything after my first playthrough, cos, that moment of losing everything you have with no data restore lets you experience the game in its essence, personally living through their grief. So for those who circumvented the main intent of this, they would never be able to feel that moment of loss. Not that it's absolutely needed for a game that already hits you with a mother load of feels.

i think this is Yoko Taro´s way to say "learn to let go" yet at the same time to prove the human player can actually do the oposite of what led humanity to extinction, and to actually have a happy ending since by his words the previous installments (nier gestalt/replicant and Drakengard 1,2,3) don´t really have a happy ending, since they are the history of a human being and those in real life usually don´t end well, but 2B, 9S and A2 are androids, they are not human so maybe they can have a better end reather than a human´s end and I maybe reading too mutch into this and I may be wrong but at the end we are asked to give up our bloody past (our combat data gattered trough the game) so somebody else may have a bright future (ending E) well that is what i think.

I felt that it was the game's final point hammering home its message. That you should be keeping disassociated external backups in case something does go wrong and you need to take the nuclear option by making you live through having to wipe everything. That is, unless you did learn, and kept a pre-corrupted backup that you could restore from at a later date.
I thought more like humans clinging too much to life that they would kill and kill, and even build machine to keep them going through data, shackling them down from just living their lives and so forth. But now that the memory of the extinct humans is gone, the new can move forward and hopefully build a better world. I remember Yoko saying how he didn't want to reward players after they just slaughtered waves and waves of people, spirits, and possibly machines. I like your theory though

i could never back up my save... it takes away the impact and real sacrifice to help another player in need beat the final boss and save the characters they care about most. its beautiful to think a game would does something awful to you then gives you the player a chance to make everything right by breaking the fourth wall like crazy

My husband and I sacrificed our save data, I hope we are out there helping out others get to the final ending. There was something very moving and touching about it, and we sat crying in silence as we watched the game wipe itself out. We have an archive of the file, as we have most our games, but have never touched it again after sacrificing it. It feels wrong to do so. May we be able to aid another crying out for help.
Thanks to the 4 people who sacrificed their save data so I could reach Ending E. You are restoring faith in humanity, hence why I sacrificed my own data too! God I love this game...

All I know is, ending E was a nightmare because my stubborn ass refused to accept any result but completing it solo. Thank you Touhou games, but even you did not help me from dying hundreds of times to the credits. T^T

Sora Blue Yeah I tried that too...but then I accidently started the whole thing over, so I gave in and accepted help. That's really why I chose to delete my data. I felt I owed someone for the help.

I also didn't accept help at first as I wasn't quite sure what it would do. But after another 10 deaths I gave in and was pleased to see the positive results.

I gave up my level 99 save file yesterday after getting my platinum trophy, I'm just so happy that I can be a part of many players final fight for them
I didn't delete.
I'm gonna do Super Hard Mode, then it'll be worth it. The person who gave their info so I could beat Hard Mode, I will make your sacrifice strong. I will beat the hardest mode, and I will prove that I deserved my Data.
And then, I'll pass the torch.

Be interesting to see the results as a potential social experiment.
Now if I go to a friends house that says they played nier and beat it, and don't see the menu background that's activated when you sacrifice your saved data. I'll know that they are not my friends anymore.

I find it amazing how a game with such an existentialist bent somehow manages to teach the essence of agape love.

Another important point, pod 042 is the ultimate hero of this history, we need and we should demand another spectacular game with it as main character.
This game is not a game it's a Masterpiece of a human mind, a possibility what our mind can achieve..
most games have roughly 2-4 ending RPG type, however this particular game have so many different endings depending on your choice.
True but twenty one of the six are just fluke endings, like killing yourself or friendly NPCs, and only abcde are the canonically genuine ones.

So I didn't know this was coming. Just got to ending E tonight. 70% of trophies, 66hrs of gameplay. There were a few straggler side quests I was going to use ch select to go back and do; I hadn't even gotten to do the DLC I paid for and get to see 2B in her hubba hubba outfit... But I couldn't not do it. Someone sacrificed their save for me and I felt it was my duty to do the same. I took a loving final glance at my new title screen, wiped my tears, took the disc out and put it in its case and back onto the shelf and deleted the game off my HD. Thank you devs and SE for this, the most unique game experience I've ever had.

I wanna confess. At the ending, tired of died again and again so I didn't pay attention to message much,just saw do u need additional help? I took it and fearlessly rushed to all names raining down on screen, died several times. didn't know those lives were from sacrifice. I'm sorry guys T-T
Anan Sang Don't worry. The game itself pretty.much tells you that can happen. Part of what makes the ending impactful is that they tell you every possible future your sacrifice can bring, and it's still worth it.

I read somewhere that the first players got help from the game developers' sacrifices, but idk if that's true or if they just got bots like you said

Not really an irony. People have got Yohra bots helping them as well, when the pods explode, they show the name of who lost their save and names of Yohra bots showed as well as the developers. Works on offline.

You can cheat the choice, and just copy your save data somewhere on USB or something, then do it. Afterwards just reupload the save data XD
Itai Sprachman If you know you are gona put the game down forever, its best to donate the save file. once i 100%'ed the game k went and played the final fight again, beat the cedits again, and then deleted it all

That's actually a super cool feature that I feel a lot of games, with network access, should utilize.
This is why I'm gonna get the platinum trophy first before I do this.

After you get the rescue offer, you become practically invincible but it's still difficult to finish the bullet hell part as you can barely see from the tears in your eyes.

53 hours deleted I hesitated a few times but if someone else didn’t do it for us we wouldn’t have gotten the ending

i didn't delete my save the first time because i wanted to get all the trophies and experience all the effort that went into this beautiful game and i guess i wanted to ready myself for the players i will hopefully help. So keep going knowing you got people who've got your back, me included

I just did this myself. I'll admit it, throughout that whole ending I was crying not-so-manly tears. Knowing that there were folks out there that sacrificed their save files to help me just kinda...yeah.
Of course, I gave up mine as well....and then forgot I didn't finish all the endings so I didn't get the Transcendent Being achievement. Oh well - game's so damn awesome I'll happily play through it again.

I gotta say that for my very first RPG game of whatsoever, I felt many emotions for this game.
I might be now, well be not the fun one but you could get replace a backup folder to replay a save data, if you back up to an external drive you could replay it with ease again

Set difficult to easy before start the final boss and ecquip all the auto-chips (usable only on easy mode) than let the AI to complete the whole minigame...you won't need any online help *_#

When i first did this i though it was a troll but shiittt deleted everything..but gave me a chance to play though again and unlock more stuff faster and make better plug in chip builds and within 5 days..i had endings A to E all over again and now on F

I got the platinum, did every quest, collected (and read) every bit of Intel, read every weapon story. Then I deleted my data. I recently started replaying the game for the 1 year anniversary of NieR automata, and I'm finally getting to see the dlc that I bought but never started!
