I have put 128,000 miles on my ‘07 Z06. I grew up in the muscle car era and, trust me, the LS7 is the best normally aspirated, factory engine ever built. I went a different way. I love the stock cam with its broad torque range, brutal power and docile street manners. Hell, your grandma could drive this car; as long as she kept her foot out of the throttle. I went with bigger wheels and tires, Brembo brakes, long-tube headers, Akrapovic titanium exhaust and tons of carbon fiber and titanium. The car has the stock interior and air conditioning and the car only weighs 2848 pounds. My two favorite mods are the big Brembo brakes and the MGW shifter. I average 21 MPG around town and can average 28 MPG at 80 MPH. I have never done anything for bragging rites and have never raced the car, but, I wish everyone could feel how this car drives.
@@JB-ej8zy You would have to add a couple of cylinders to the LS7 to make a direct comparison. Of course, at over 8 liters, the Viper makes more power. To truly compare different engines you need to use BSFC numbers. BSFC is a measure of Brake Specific Fuel Consumption. That is how many pounds of fuel per horsepower per hour an engine burns. That is basically how “good” an engine is. If you only look at horsepower, adding displacement, blowers, turbos etc. make a huge difference. I don’t have any BSFC numbers to quote but around .50 starts to be good and anything around .40 or a bit lower is outstanding. I did see a GM press release once that stated, at the time, that the LS7 was the most efficient engine that GM had ever made. My guess is that it was based on BSFC numbers. Do I think it’s better than the Viper? That all depends on what you are looking for for your application.
