People usually tend to call any second greatest band as underrated, but... I was shocked to know that none of their singles ever was #1 even in Sweden (and actually nowhere, only Lovefool was #1 in NZ according to Wiki)
I had a huge crush on Nina back in '97 so I sent a copy of their Emmerdale CD to be autographed. It never came back. I'm now 45 and I named my first daughter Nina, she's 20 now.
Justin Greene i'm so agree with you on that one because all the albums from The Cardigans are really really great and their songs are so damn good that i can listen to them over and over again all the time and i never get tired of them.
The mixing on this song is extremely unique and very subdued for a rock group. The super clean rhythm guitars, the almost non existent kick drum, and even just the little weird stuff like the snare being hard panned to the right make the song really dynamic and airy in a way I never would think to take a mix of this genre, very inspiring tbh.
@@Leri-K Peter and Magnus were metal heads before they started the band... their album Gran Turismo was the closest to rock they got but I’m still not sure if I’d consider them a rock group because their style has changed so much
grmpf That goes for a lot of rock bands that include random horn sections in their tracks. It’s usually a side effect of them having played that instrument in school before moving to guitar/keys/vocals and just wanting to throw a little part of it onto one song. Most great horns in rock were done by a session band a la Radiohead’s Life In A Glasshouse. However I can attest to it being a fun little experiment even if you can’t play that well. I can’t play my alto sax for shit anymore but given enough time and takes I can get it sounding good enough to sit in a mix without being distracting.
The kid captures the lonesomeness and frustrations of boyhood adolescences paired with a beautiful and talented young woman. I know it all too well. Cool vid.
So good. How did these guys come up with their sound in the 90s of all times. So inventive and interesting. I was so into the heavy stuff back in the day. I really only know their major radio songs. Discovering them again for the first time.
Same! I only knew their songs after their smash hit Lovefool, but he showed some songs of their before the hit and now I realized I really like them lol
Same here! I didn't know they were THIS good & when I heard this song playing, I went to find more of their music, randomly clicked this one, & it was the song I was looking for!
Emmerdale 1994. I first learned how to play this song on guitar in high school in 2009 or so. First song my girlfriend (now wife) heard me play in 2015. Been playing it on and off for 5 years and she’s sick and tired of it because it’s all I play. It just sounds so good 😊
Oh. I still struggle to figure out these jazzy chords. But I love this song. Would you share a quick tab? I suspect there's a fair share of diminished and augmented chords in there.
Now that you mention it, it sounds to me like the drums could have maybe been brought up a bit more by the mixer operator/producer. But I'm only a listener, and potential CD customer.
This was their first album, they're a converted metal band too. It sounds to me like the drums weren't miced enough, or they were lacking tracks to do so, this was recorded in 1993 or 1994. The likelihood is the thinness with the drums is lack of available tracks to record them with. (i recorded albums back in 1999 and 2000 I know the technical issues they were up against)
I've always loved their music. Since the first time I heard this song. Then I watched the videoclip and found out I had a crush on Nina. I was 15 or 16 back in the days... I still think their songs are awesome.
"Ah, the instrumentation in this song is nice". The first impression I had about this song more than twenty years ago, and I still am thinking that the instrumentation is so nice.
46 yr old tears for 16 yr old "charms". How can the song still apply? and describe the same feelings and "symptoms so deep"? ..."so spare me if you please"...
Cardigans are the kind of band that only listeners with great taste and high cultural level can understand, relate to, and enjoy. The sounds of 'Sick And Tired' are a symphony of harmony and beauty at many levels.
Fuck - were they great in the 90's.... When they played LIVE here in small Clubs, they always allowed me to have a Drink with them backstage... :) (Pat, Switzerland)
Great under rated song, great under rated band,I hope they are doing well we all love you for giving us good music and giving us hope during this unusual time!!!?
Damn what a beautiful song this is because Nina's voice are so cute beautiful and unique as always and i really really love her and that really awesome Volvo pv 544 that are one of the most beautiful cars that are made in sweden. And Volvo and The Cardigans are the best things that has came from sweden ever.
Strangely, I had this song in my head just today and for no reason. I wasn't a huge cardigans fan back in the day but liked this song in a pleasingly retro way. The thought I had after not listening to this in twenty odd years was this - isn't the rhythm to this a bit Latin Jazz? Those chords are a amazing, wrapped with folk and summery sixties pop on top. I don't know why this song suddenly sprung to mind today, but as a "youngster" I totally missed a lot of what was going on here. It was on mtv all the time and I considered it a pleasant diversion from a lot of the charty stuff at the time. But really its almost progressive in how tight the composition is. I'll go back and listen to a lot more cardigans after hearing this again, hopefully to discover more excellent hidden depths.
I wish I had been born in the late 70s or something, so I could have enjoyed this music as it was coming out. I’m sure I would have had a major crush on Nina.
Cardigans is a 90's band, they only use that 70's aestetics and only on that phase actually, if you look for other albuns you will find that there visuals and sound differ album to album
Leandro Martins you misunderstood my comment. I was saying I would have liked to have been born in the late 70s, so that I could be the right age to enjoy this music when it came out. I was only 6 when this came out.
The most underrated band on the moon

The first two albums were great.
After that, just average.

I listen to this song since last summer and it never gets old, they are incredible
"Indelibly underrated"? Dude, I think your English is overrated.

Also, they played live shows without a backing track.
It reminds of, like, mixing they did for old mono songs that were remastered for stereo, it gives them a very classic Americana feel.

Big props to the nameless SponsorBlock user who tagged the shot with the bassoon player as a highlight.
I saw them in Atlanta in 1995 and it was an amazing show- I was 16 and bought all of their European released records and singles. Those were the days
Lucky you did they sing this Song?
I'll never get sick and tired of the cardigans
This 70's aesthetic in the 90's is fucking key!!!!
I would say 60s but yes you are right
All hail the bassoon!
As a bassoonist, I have to say, although it's cool to have a bassoon in a pop song, the playing here is unfortunately not that great.

Nobody has ever done, nor will do anything like the Cardigans. They're untouchable

a metal song, but with Bassoon.
One of their best songs for sure.

Quite a pleasant chord progression, politely delivered, almost in a perfumed envelope. I enjoy this very much.
Great drums also (as always)
Now that you mention it, it sounds to me like the drums could have maybe been brought up a bit more by the mixer operator/producer. But I'm only a listener, and potential CD customer.
