Couldn’t you just slide the battery cover on while you are spraying that part. Then if you want the back of the battery cover painted remove it when it has dried flip then paint it. Seems easier than taping.
The reason you want to wait a few minutes between clear coat is because paint sticks to stuff in 2 ways, 1) mechanically and 2) chemically. For the clear coat step you will be using a "chemical bond" to insure the coats stick together, while giving a few minutes between coats to prevent it from running, as opposed to the "mechanical bond" (paint gripping to the tiny scratches on the rough surface) you used when scuffing the controller early in the video.
I dunno how much all those cans cost but it's about £10 a can in the UK. So if you're gonna be using primer and laquer etc then you might as well just buy the controller in the colour you want.
You can pop off the battery terminal metal by sliding it up after popping it off the holders (on the back? And then squeezing the + and - terminals and sliding it through. It's easy to out back so you can clean and spray away with no fears of corrosion.
i recently got into doing this i replaced some thumbsticks on a xbo controller i got from a pawn for 35 saw the grips and back pice figtured why not .i primed it with some white kelt paint then i sprayed it.now i wana do it mnore better and more professional for a fun hobby now
I left the battery compartment on mine just to make things easier on my first one which was gold. My second black one I did the battery compartment as well after removing the sticker and terminals
Don't do it like this guy at all!!! Read my comment. I will be starting a page in 30 days and will show everyone a much better way to do this. But then again you can't do worse than this video
I known this is two years old, but... Paint should go on in layers..first layer should be a fine mist..2nd and 3rd layers add more..finishing with a final and thicker 4th layer for full.coverage.. This gives you a much better paint job..also gives you more protection against dings and scratches..as it has more hardness and layers to go through.. Also...dont hold the paint so close..you should have about 6 inches minimum distance from what you are painting.. Start and stop your spray before you are over top of your item..you want to start your spray an inch or two before over top of the item..and stop it same distance off..this stops spatters from the nozzle from getting on your item and helps eliminate runs. Also...always finish with a few coats of clear, applied same as above..it makes it prettier and aids in toughness of finish
Ok well. #1 you can remove the sticker and battery terminals from the battery compartment. #2 should begin spraying about an inch to the left or right of the part you’re spraying to allow the paint to get the best coverage. #3 should spray slightly inside the shell to make sure you can see the colour at any angle when the shells back on, this insures you’ve got overhang.
I get that this vid is a bit old but you definitely need to leave the battery cover on during the painting as well as plugging the charger, aux jack, and multi use jack. great vid tho and i love how you address the prep and final coat as the most important parts, not only true but also usually unkown
Don't do this my guys. This could jack your shit up. Do this: 1. Cover the battery compartment or tape it before spraying. 2. You don't need to spray white primer or primer separately "if" the color spray your using is an all in one color/primer. Thats overkill. 3. Do a little spray on a prep surface or cardboard to test the pressure of the spray before doing the controller. 4. Spray the controller 10 inches away in a fast moving motion left - right. Like your playing some opera orchestra or shit. 5. Do it again within 15-20mins. 6. 24hours later, clear coat it with the same technique. 7. 5-10 mins later, clear coat it again.
XXXcriticalXXX Vision thanks man. Just trying to make my videos easy to follow so people don’t have to spend so much time figuring out how to do things. I go through the trouble so you don’t have to 👌🏼
Can you make a video about cleaning a PS3 console and a controller as I've had one for 2 years and there's a lot of dust. P.S. Also how to paint one, my blue controller started to fade away a little bit and there's some scratches as I got it from my friend. Thanks in advance! P.S.S. You got a new subscriber!
i plan on making a silhouette paint, leaving the outer part unaltered, aside from covering the not-to-be-painted parts with tape, is there any other issues i may need to look out for? like, does doing all of that only on the untaped part may make the border of the paint fragile? or maybe the tape itself might not handle well the sanding...
Smh if you want to redo your “project” follow this guys tutorial smh, not enough sanding , no filler to fill those giant nicks, adhesion promoter is enough , no need for primer , he touches wet primer , you can see the paint drip off the primer too much paint or adhesion failed , sprayed way too close, theres a reason he didn’t show the final product , great idea horrible execution, some advice , USE DOUBLE SIDED tape and tape these parts to a piece of cardboard makes it super easy to paint
The one million dollar question I just came up with tho, why not by a (another one) factory finished controller in paint's + preparation material + time?? No hate, I was planning to paint controller too.
even a 5 year old would spray better than that. Not enough movement while spraying and pressing too short. You have to start a bit away from the piece, hold it(!) if you can or at least more than 2-3 seconds and do larger and faster motions over the pieces. Should be self explanatory
Not necessarily. If there is heavy dirt on the controller, the dirt can stick to the pad or paper and not properly scuff the surface. You have to remember people doing this may be doing it for the first time and probably wont know how long or to what extent they should sand for. So that extra step of cleaning it before sanding it could be key to the paint bonding correctly.
That’s incorrect. When spray painting, you want a clean dry, dirt free surface so your paint lays down smooth and smudge free. You think people at auto body shops don’t prep the plastic/urethane bumpers for cars? Haha please get informed on painting.
I made a ton of mistakes the first time around 😂 - check out the website, I talk about a few of those things. Hoping to make another video with some more detailed instructions/watch-outs again soon. Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for stopping by @faceless_reaction_videos. I'm always looking for ways to improve my channel and content. Would you mind sharing any details on what opportunities there are to improve here with the controller painting content? I have a second one of these I did several years ago, and haven't had any issues with it since, so wondering where there might be potential to make it better for viewers. Initially this came from a lot of different content pieced together to try and explain everything more clearly for first timers. Thanks!
Should the battery terminal thingys be covered before spraying? I think i'll cover the whole battery zone with tape anyway..
YES!
Yeah i thought i was the only one noticing this!
lol me too. the batter terminals are still there along with the sticker.
@@aidenskillman7901 skip tape i got FLEX TAPE

"hold it 8-10 inches".... as he sprays 2 inches from the controller
Yeah because his manhood is 8-10 of that "inches" :PP
Size doesn't matter 😂

Dude where are u??? Ur channel is doing so well- please don’t abandon it
i also like how after he cleaned it with a special alcohol wipe he put the pieces right back into the dusty mess.
Maybe you should have watched a paint tutorial before uploading a paint tutorial 🤪

You never made an update video. It's been 4 years where did you go?
14:00 NOOO you have to tape the battery connectors, YOU CANT PAINT IN THERE!!!!
Yes u can
Big_ BaLLa213 nah if you get it on the metal connectors your batteries can’t make a full connection
@Benjamin I'm just playen foo idk ive never done it well welcome back after a 6 month brake
You can remove the terminals
@@hamishmunro8862 i done it, it's easy but he done it wrong

Damn I kinda feel bad. Dude never made a video again 😓 he was just trying to help people out and got lit up in the comments.
true
Shake your can a lot more and the paint will act better when contacting the surface

why wouldn't you use sand paper to rough up the controller better instead of the pad thing?
That clear coat from rustoleum says it doesn’t do good on plastic so I wouldn’t get it. Look up restoleum 2XL coverage bonded to plastic.
I haven't had any problem with it yet, but good to know. It's difficult to find some of these products, but Amazon has all.
Or automotive clear coat finish.
Yup that will work too. I thought that was a bit of overkill.
Why did u stop the channel man it makes me sad plz come back plz if anyone’s here and no’s Y he left PLZ TELL ME!!
12:30 "Look at that, nice and covered."
Except it's not.
Where u been ?
fr
Great video just can't find the final finish picture
I'm going to have some additional pictures in the article I'm posting today. Keep an eye out!
I'm still not seeing the finished pics. Do you have a link?
Do a video of taking controler apart again ?
Do you do the same thing with the bumpers and triggers
6:17 pss, spray paint comes off easier with really hot water.
I watched how to ake apart a xbox controller loved it so I then watched this instant subscribe
Where did this guy go
“Chris Pratt voices over a tutorial”
Yo the real question is..where is this dude now in 2020?????
He completely fucked up this tutorial I doubt he will be back.
i miss you:(
No videos in 11 months, you ok man?
Israel 278 he’s been playing fortnite
Can this work with hydrodipping?
If there were one thing that I'd do differently it would be to do the initial scuffing process wet to keep down the dust.
What if I wai mate finish? Do I still apply the enamel
Use a matte clear...

On a video you said hdmi 1 has less lag than hdmi gaming? No it doesn't in fact hdmi comes with more benefits and features
Youve sprayed into the circuit board as theres open holes on the.m back
Can we use sand paper
Where you gone???? Come back to UA-cam
He got pretty smoked by the comments. I dont think he will be back.
Will the paint chip or fade ? With that primer ?
Cause I will get white controllers, do I need to Cole them in that white thing anyway?
is my controler sopost to go pop
Could I just use like a marker
Does the paint not wear done after constant use?
The crystal clear enamel helps prevent that.
All the people saying he’s painting the battery terminals. You can take those off before painting, they snap in and out.
Ermmm you need to remove the batter terminal connections
by the time You Spend money on all this stuff, Might as well just buy a different color controller

Why grab a flat color if you're going for a gloss finish? Use the right clear for the right paint
Great videos the one about fixing disc got me here

Can you use sandpaper?
Always
I wanted to see the results :(
You could get a second custom controller from Microsoft shop instead of those items .d

Kind of painful to watch. When you paint, start your fan of spray off the object and fan over it. Dont just spray random spots.
