    for the paint to dry faster, you must put light coats at first then finishing the rest.

    heres a wicked trick. Use plati-dip clear instead of a clear coat. the get a scuff like rubber surface. I was trying to make a soft touch faceplate but this i think is so much nicer and way more sticky. i hate gloss on the finish of a controller.

    The paint itself isn't really misleading with the dry to the touch-statement. The reason yours did not dry is because you have such a fat layer of paint and you only paint it once. If you'd done 3-4 much lighter layers every half an hour - hour, it would be dry to touch by 20 minutes. This way you'd also prevent overspray, but oh well. Your way is much faster though, and for a DIY project like a controller, it'll probably work just fine most of the times.

    • @DIYTechTube
      @DIYTechTube  8 років тому +1

      Håkon Ah yeah, I'm no professional. Still good suggestions for people like me who don't really want to spend 4 hours painting lol

    • @MultiHakkin
      @MultiHakkin 8 років тому +1

      Yeh, I'm kinda painting if I have a whole day free. Go paint, watch UA-cam for an hour, new layer, an hour on UA-cam, new layer etc. That way you get even layers and no overspray, but of course, it does take longer.

    • @johnpaul5656
      @johnpaul5656 6 років тому

      allso heat the can of spray paint in some hot water helps the spray when under pressure.NB make sure obviously to dry the spray can properly before you use it to avoid and wet on the paint .

    • @Kommentierer
      @Kommentierer 8 років тому +2

      No, I got a different DIY method for my XBOX 360 Controller:
      You need some long and round piece of hard plastic. Heat up one end of it to make it deformable. Then you can press it into the head of the special screw. If it is hardened you can use this imprint as an improved screwdriver. It may not last long but it is enough for some screws :)

    For the security screws (usually torx) before i got the right screwdriver i used to remove them as i can or just try to remove the tiny bit in the middle (because i have a classic torx) :) and to screw them again i used to replace th screw by a normal screw about the same size or using a metal saw and modify the screw to be able to use a flat screwdriver ^^ (pardon my bad english, not my language ^^')

  • @stevenutter3614

    Also keep in mind folks if your paint isn't 100 fucking percent dry before you apply the clear coat, the clear coat is going to dry first, and make your paint take on a look reminiscent of a cold sack of nuts in the pool or a patch of dry mud in the savanna. (You don't get to pick they look the same).

  • @xiaofanlin9185
    @xiaofanlin9185 7 років тому +1

    Why did paint twice with different colors on the controller? Btw, what did sanding paper you usually use?

    • @DIYTechTube
      @DIYTechTube  7 років тому

      +Xiaofan Lin Sandpaper doesn't really matter as long as it's scratched up a little bit, and I just like the two colored look :)

      Painting the actual console is even easier. I painted mine black last night. Either way, do not use a course grade sandpaper. A fine or extra fine steel wool and some rubbing alcohol is enough to remove grime and get it ready for paint. After scuffing with the steel wool, clean with more alcohol and use a lint free towel to wipe it down with. Follow his directions/recommendations for the rest. Btw... To paint your console, remove the black base with a flat screwdriver (popping it loose), then you'll need a Torx 10(non security, but a T10 security will work so if you have to buy one buy the security...you never know when you'll need one) and remove the 7 green screws from the bottom and the top will come loose. Keep in mind the very back doesn't come off, so you don't have to worry about your hdmi ports and whatnot.
