#MusicMoneyMakeover #ASCAP #BMI
I've can't believe you covered this. Last week I actually went on the ASCAP website to look at joining them and leaving BMI. I didn't do it because I wanted to find out who was better at this point. I'd always been friendly with Alonzo who may or may not be there anymore, but I think I'm making the change. I got new plans and I want to make sure its all done properly in the beginning. I may be ready for the course in a few weeks
Looking forward to you hoping on board.
Been with ASCAP since 2005. Thanks for the info. 💯💪🏾
Anytime

Loving this. I'm totally new to actually to trying to getting paid in the music business, but I've been a musician all my life. There are many decisions to make as performer/composer, but now I'm clear on the PRO because you're stuff is clear and concise and real. Thank you man.

Good lookin out Ma'man!!! 👊👊👊
No problem
Thank you for this vid. I have been waiting to hear back from BMI for a few weeks now about an error I made in applying to them. No response from them as of yet. You just solidified my choice to apply with ASCAP.
Glad I could help you in your sign up process.
@@MusicMoneyMakeover 👍🏼
Bro the suck they’ve left me in the wind so many times this year
They don’t answer the phone and when they do they’re rude
Just applied with them this past weekend for free as a writer and a publisher.
Gratitude
Thank you. You’re welcome.
This Channel is Goated.
Thanks!
Does ascap have performance royalties?
Amazing Content
Appreciate it
Could i open an independent distribution website like tunecore for example?
What if we use BeatStars/Sony? Is it still the same extra % from 16-21
what to if in my country, they don't ''get it'' if my music isn't commercial/play on radio or classical or some shit?
from Europe I still can go ahead with BMI in US?
Hey Casey.. I took the 60-Day Record Label course, set up my LLC, and affiliated with BMI as a publisher for 5 years. I havent registered as a writer yet. If I wanted to switch to ASCAP, could I just affiliate with them as a publisher and writer, since I don't have any songs cataloged with them? Or would I still need to wait until the tend of the term? Thanks for the video and all you do for us!
If you're not affiliated as a writer then that means you a publisher. I have accounts at both as a publisher and as a writer at BMI. If you have no writer account there is no term to worry about.
You could still join ASCAP as a publisher ($50) under a different publishing/DBA. I'm currently looking at that option also.
Hey there ❤ Music money maker ❤
I want to know why bmi is not paying me as an independent artist.
Is it because I haven’t submitted my W 8BEN form?
I joined bmi since 2021.
I do respond to some deals from Music Report as well.
Can u sign up with both? Or jus 1?
Been here for a few years now
Mannnn watching this video mane how real is the 60 day course
Real as a 2 dollar bill!
What exactly are "royalty advance privileges", you get payed for chosing them?
If you’re a producer and you sign up with bmi does the artist have to have a bmi account also before you register the song?
No necessarily. you can register them as NS (No society) and reserve their share.
@@MusicMoneyMakeover okay thanks for the feedback much appreciated
Songtrust is worth it?
don't do it instead make your own publishing
@@JA809_ And how do you collect mechanical royalties?
💙⚡️❤️
cool dude 🕶🕶🕶🕶
If you release a song through DistroKid should you still register it with BMI and or ASCAP?
Yes
@@keiththomas111 Thank you.
I'm about to release new music first time in a decade, I'll get your 60 book 📖, but do you offer zoom calls 📞
All day long! Well really Mon, Wed, and Fri. www.musicmoneymakeover.com/bookacall
BMI got the worst customer service
I'm not going to lie they do! 😂
Call the New York office you get a person.
Shucks! You wouldn't happen... to have a Time Machine!?
Nope
ASCAP is horrible. They should be abolished as should copyright. It's all become a huge mess. They paid me HALF what they normally pay me last year and I've been producing more content than ever. I can't tell you how horribly they have treated me, no career assist at all. I've heard the rumors they pay the top acts first and the rest get the crumbs. I believe that is the case because of the upside down way the money flows in the music industry which is really just powered by money laundering and using music as a tax on business to shake down business. I hate them and I hate the business. I'm a great music maker and that is the ONLY thing that has kept me in this TERRIBLY RUN PREDATORY SYSTEM. I will never forgive any part of this process and it's a disgrace to civilization and a bad joke. Artists should be paid a flat living wage in exchange for contributions to the arts and also holding down a part-time job to help support essential things in society. This stuff should no longer be left up to the private sector to call the shots, they will always look out for themselves only. We need a new economy in general because of AI and the private sector is not handling the transition well.
We can actually get together and create that kind of structure, as far as some kind of collective that has insurance, emergency income, healthcare, retirement etc. When we need money for a part of the organization we can always create a great series of concerts. Or just have them each year or every two years or whatever. There was a film company called United Artists that was similar. Or at least it was started by artists. But later taken over by the banks because you always need funding. A musician/writer/performer collective can always raise money from the public who loves music and the experience. Something to think about. Very professional structure, no BS and avoid crooked lawyer shenanigans.
Wow
Sheesh🫠
