Great Information This is my first time Visiting out of desperation to get my music to being heard ( great songs) and to make money, the right way with my music.
Not sure if this tool is in the course - but Songview is a song ownership tool developed by ASCAP and BMI - I've used Songview on my earlier songs and found out the detailed publishing split CdBaby and Songtrust had on my song "Treasure" which has done well in overseas markets. I cancelled Cdbaby/Songtrust (Cd Baby Pro used Songtrust as pub admin) and now have my Ascap Pub account to collect those publishing royalties.

honestly i love this bro but for those of us in Nigeria, it's more difficult that way. Not all us that is living in the United States and UK. again how are we gonna distribute to streaming platforms if we follow that way? look, I think you should do us a video. do a for Nigerians on how we survive it because are the music companies we have here doesn't work. Ok so hfa,the mlc and music reports collects your mechanicals so do i still need a distributor like a cdbaby or tunecore? Also if my music plays on the radio overseas can bmi collect my public performance overseas or they only can colllect in certain placeses overseas?

So is distrokid or united masters a publisher?
If I just write lyrics, should I try to get as many artists making different song versions of the lyrics or should I just sell those lyrics to one artist. I know you said keep the master and have as many different versions as possible, but that just apply to the song or does it also apply if there's no song, just lyrics?
So all I need is ASCAP to collect all my royalties. Don’t need song trust and sound exchange with it? And is tunecore or cd baby is better?

What you think of create music group UA-cam collection deals?
I think that if you're an indie artist who releases their own material then your distributors collection for UA-cam will be just fine. However if you're an indie writer or producer who doesn't release music then you'll need to find a collection agent for your records like create. However there are many out there than just them.
Can you do a video about music reports I am a bit confused about how they collect
and about BMI being sold that will affect royalties collection ?

if mlc is a passthrough entity, why would anyone want to affiliate with bmi/ascap for a greater percentage?

In the beginning it really depends on access to quality of man power vs access to capital to fund. Voluntary manpower can really help a loooooot! The money is going to cost you more in the beginning because you'll have to leverage it more vs when you have cash flow and a following. I'd say $10k to $15k to start, penny pinch it and then on you next round of funding 10x it to 100,000k

Nope. That’s what my course is for.
How can i make the switch to being my own publisher if in an agreement with songtrust currently, but not every song of mine is yet registered with them and bmi, only a portion of my catalogue. Payments from songtrust take too long, would love to become my own publisher. Already have 60 day record label
You are your own publisher when you use songtrust they’re just your admin. But if you want to set up your own publishing company do it and let them know. Songtrust will wil then update all registrations with your company listed as the music publisher for your works.

Yes however once you get the release email, you don't have to unregister anything. You do however need to reregister everything in its proper places.
