I saw Soft Cell on their farewell tour at the Hollywood Palladium---82-83 ish. Marc's voice was INCREDIBLE!!! He is one crazy dude on stage; there were so many dudes running up on stage to kiss him---my buddy got a little too over zealous and got escorted out the back door. Anyways David Ball had a lot of work to keep the tape machines rolling along with his live playing. Crazy talent!!!!
yay mark curry. I remember kids tv shows growing up. They were like this, very serious interviews with musicians and that, and then right into superted. I grew up in England and then moved to the U.S and people don't believe me when I say you can't grow up in the U.K and not have music be very important to you. Even when you're a kid the biggest stars are musicians and it's all very serious.
I know Marc probably wanted to be anywhere else doing anything else but this and it shows but who can blame him and he still manages to be polite and pleasant but the giggles are so endearing..you just want to be around someone like that, being silly, being naughty and just having fun taking the piss..you can see he's just full of energy and devilment 😄
Oh he was but it certainly didn't hold him back..he took off like a dervish in a whirlwind of craziness and creativity and never looked back while his tormenters ate dust (probably still live in their hometown, eating dirt 😅)
@OfficialCable What? Sorry, but in what parallel universe was Gary Numan an originator of electronic music? Major innovations can be hard to pin down by date as they often have roots in earlier styles. That said, electronic music was definitely around (see Krautrock bands like Kraftwerk, for example) several years before he released his debut. You can say you think he's the greatest musician that ever lived but you can't make up your own music history!
liar.. They split because softcells singles were no longer reaching high chart positions. He jumped that ship just before it sank. Nervous laugh or something he's on, at this point he's have been famous for 3 years and very use to interviews. Today he's a man who looks like he spends most of his time and money trying to look young. 60 years old black hair, no laughter lines, looks like a waxwork dummy, appearance more important to him than music, vanity comes first luvvie
I disagree with your 'appearance more important to him than music comment'. To me it seems that his new album shadows and reflections has been well thought out as it has been inspired by his 60's era. It doesn't seemed forced at all and is able to be performed very well live with an orchestra. For people who have been life-long listeners of Marc Almond, they have the chance to see him live at a spectacular show with live music. How he likes to look is up to him only, but he is an artist and always will be - and that's what comes first.
Much of his "work" was reconstructive, as he was in a serious motorcycle accident, which nearly killed him... From what I've been able to fugue, the entire left side of his face/skull had to be pieced back together... As for the Soft Cell split, I've read (from multiple sources) that there were creative differences, as well as issues with their manager, and as soon as all contract obligations were fulfilled, they all parted ways. Also, their last album has a much different sound from the others, and takes a different turn lyrically, which I've heard was due to them having the freedom to do so. Again, this is all pieced together from various reports, and since none of us have first-hand knowledge, we shouldn't accuse him of lying, or being vain...
You really are a nasty little arsehole, who is ugly in a way that cosmetic surgery cannot fix. You mixed in nothing more than bitter bitchiness and made up nonsense in your rant, and made yourself look sour and hatey.

@schweinesau The Boy Who Came Back, it was a single off his 1984 album Vermin in Ermine.
he looks like a guy that used to be the victim of bullies in school.
He actually was-he mentioned so in an interview.

Was this recorded at the BBC, on Oxford Road, in Manchester? They've just demolished it, such a shame.
