    Annabel and Marc made interesting contributions which indicated that they'd given some critical thought to what they'd actually been watching whereas Julian Temple was a completely pompous waste of space "Why am I being asked to comment on this video?"...FFS.

    Temple is just mimicking the music press at the time. the Banshees had became a target for their dislike and he just jumped on the bandwagon. nothing original in his assessment. it's typical in the UK, you have about three or four albums and they turn on you.

    I love Soft Cell and Marc was a great pop star but he is just a bitter queen. His bashing of Gary Numan about his leather etc wasn't needed. When Julian didn't like Siouxsie Marc had a fit but his behaviour for everyone else was just the same as Julian's.

    @luciferbox5577 Рік тому +6

    I remember this so well. Marc being the bitchy queen you knew he would be. The irony is, would Soft Cell have had any success if it hadn't been for Numan? So many synth bands came after Numan had made electronic music commercial and popular, but unlike him, most have long gone. Almond likes to think of himself as a 'serious' musician, but it's Numan who is now rightly regarded as being innovative, with musicians such as Prince, Lady GaGa, Marilyn Manson and Trent Reznor all saying that Numan was a massive influence on them. The "Warriors" album wasn't the best thing Numan has ever recorded, but he was trying to do something a little bit different to what he had released previously and despite not being entirely successful, it was at least an attempt at progression.

    • @antunivanovic

      Oh come f+++ing on... Yes, Numan's one of the post-punk icons, yes, he'd had hits and was super cool at times, we all love his (selected) music, but "hadn't it been for Numan", I am absolutely sure the likes of Soft Cell and many others would have found their way anyhow - and they did... What's Numan's success got to do with any of that?! Maybe hadn't it been for Kraftwerk (and Bowie) would have been a far more precise assumption... Numan, like Soft Cell, was influenced and inspired... Soft Cell already had a solid club hit ("Memorabilia") before storming the world with "Tainted Love"...
      People should stop being so oversensitive when it comes to Numan - while remarks about him here (and in many other situations throughout that time) were downright rude, giving Numan all that much credit for "creating synth-pop" is just exaggerated.
      And where on earth did you read Numan was a "massive influence" on Prince?! Prince could have possibly appreciated Numan to an extent - after all, it was Numan who in later years dared covering some of Prince's songs and oh boy, did he do a dreadful job or what... I believe Prince wasn't that happy about it...

      @@davidserlin8097 yes you’re absolutely correct and what an arrogant comment coming from someone as non-renowned as I. I am known in certain cultish followings in certain places in Europe but not nearly to the extent as someone such as Marc Almond. Thanks thank you for also reminding me of this and I didn’t write this with the intention of offending the audience as I thought more would share my view on Marc’s arrogance here but yet I was coming off rather so when I have no room for such ownership
