Saw Marc and Dave perform this last night at Audley End, and enjoyed it. Had to look it up this morning. An interesting social commentary that hits home harder 40 years later.
Saw the live show tonight - they started with "Memorabilia" and then this song with "Why don't I just give up and do myself a favour?" Love the gallows humour Marc!
Just AMAZING! I love this song and it's quite hard to find references to it, once it's not one of the most 'mainstreamed' work by Soft Cell... Congrats and thanks!
Fair enough..that's a matter of taste. I hadn't seen this video, and though it is amusing, it is not how I 'visualised' the song. Marc is an artist who writes and sings about what deeply interests and excites him...take a listen to some of the artists Marc has covered to appreciate the diversity of his output, inspiration and passion for music / art.
i agree with most of other comments that the song is not "surprising", but i do like the video and how Marc looks. If they do open a cell burger shop, i will go there to try their monoculture burger.... this song reminds me of "frustration", some similar theme maybe...
ZetanCrisp, Dave is one member of the "Grid" group, about one month ago the new Grid album Doppelganger has come out. I'm a Soft Cell fan since 1982... 26 years of Soft Cell...
1:12 Ehh that chip looks yucky! 1:55 Obviously got a few too many E numbers in it! MARC YOU ARE FUCKING AWESOME!! DAVE IS A MUSICAL GENIUS!! L O N G L I V E S O F T C E L L ! !
@copperpotbaby Absolutely, but over the course of time, when styles have become old or passe, a good record will still be a good record & a bad record that was once, at least of its time, will still be a bad record but will sound dated as well. This is NOT a bad record but it's very difficult for a band who had to a large extent shaped the music of the future, to come back after such a long time and not appear to sound like everyone else. Kraftwerk's "Tour de France" album is a perfect example.
The irony being they're comparing repetitive art to fast food, in itself one of the the most unoriginal clichés ever, but then did it over possibly their blandest ever musical track *face palm*
I love Soft Cell so much!!!!! (≧▽≦) It keeps being amazing along the time (if i wrote something wrong, please tell me, I don't speak english so well)
@Neptune5150 For me the first listen was hugely disappointing & with the exception of "My Caligula syndrome" nothing even sounded like the old Soft Cell. Usually, after being so completely underwhelmed by a record I give up on it, but my cousin & me were decorating my house & I stuck on the CD as a kind of joke, while we both camped it up dancing & acting very stereotypically gay! To my surprise, he liked it and asked to hear it again & again. It's not classic Soft Cell but now I quite like it.
I love marc almond hardly the days of the mambas dressed in black and cool the last soft cell album was 'shit' and thats being kind! whats next marc eurovision? search marc and the mambas if you already havnt and watch marc when he was a true 'cool' goth type star! lyrics from this song 'ordinary boring' describes the album and song well!!! a video Working in a hamburger joint fucking hell.....lol !
Got to agree with you (for all the thumbs down I'll get for it; seems your not allowed to have an anti-soft cell comment on this board). It's so not Soft Cell, more like The Grid with Mark on guest vocals. A very dull song for them. Any your right too messy. The only tracks that work for me on that album are The Night and Sensation Nation, but the rest you can keep.
Rubbish...you obviously haven't delved into Marc's incredibly diverse catalogue...and take a listen to some of the outsider music he has made and contributed to over the last few years..yes, if all you know is all you hear of him pumped out on commercial tv and radio...no one, except those who desire the obvious, want to hear him sing 'Tainted Love' again.
Greatest artist of all times, and I have listen to many trust me. Pure Genius

I agree
And all that black hair...like in 1982....ahhh he was so sexy.
Still it would be groovy to be served by Marc Almond in a burger shop.

Me neither and I am just 16

ABSO-BLOODY-LUTELY BRILLIANT. TYPICAL MARC, DELIVERS EVERY TIME.
this should have been a massive hit!!! there's no justice in the world!!!!
Just AMAZING! I love this song and it's quite hard to find references to it, once it's not one of the most 'mainstreamed' work by Soft Cell... Congrats and thanks!

MARC YOU ARE FUCKING AWESOME!! DAVE IS A MUSICAL GENIUS!!
L O N G L I V E S O F T C E L L ! !
This was the hold music of the bakery department at Safeway(Canadian Grocery Chain). I liked it so I tracked it down.
Issac I actually heard it playing in the grocery store a few months back, LOL!
Where is Dave nowadays? I used to love his moody look :). Great combination those two!

LOL imagine going to Mcdonalds and the bloek behind the counter starts singing to you
I wish I heard this track on the radio here.
But unfortunately in the states, we're subjected to rap, hinder and audio fecal matter like that.
Best video of all time.
The OG wagejack doomer. Marc for world god king
The irony being they're comparing repetitive art to fast food, in itself one of the the most unoriginal clichés ever, but then did it over possibly their blandest ever musical track
*face palm*
are those gold fronts or messed up brit teeth? i hope it's the former. I love this video.
The style and sound is very similar to hot chip ...
OMG this video IS so old!!!
i love this song
I love Soft Cell so much!!!!! (≧▽≦) It keeps being amazing along the time (if i wrote something wrong, please tell me, I don't speak english so well)
Great number.
The clown in this video is based on John wayne Gacy, his clown make-up is the same.
@wildenfree It's on the "Cruelty without beauty" album.
Should’ve been a major hit
It's a funny Videoclip. :-)
I cant find this song anywhere! X(
soooooooooooooooo Fantastic
Ha Ha Mark Almond totally looks like Pee Wee Herman!
MultiMeli123 I love Marc and Pee Wee Herman.
@gemsdiamond Maybe you've never heard the "Mother fist" album? It's Almond's masterpiece.
NICE !!!!
Good!!
@migselv78 PSB are great as well!
GOOD !
Nice track!
This is pretty much the worst thing I've seen on UA-cam. Much worse than those kids jumping off of roofs and hurting themselves.
cool!
David Ball still records as Yello.
Erm no he doesn't , he's never ever been a part of Yello and never will be
Cool
Good
there are a couple of live versions of this.I have one but I don't know how to post it.If someone else has it please post
I love Soft Cell, but this song is really poor :/
Why? do you like to eat shit?😁
of course it's Dave Ball, he looks a bit unfamiliar, but unlike Marc he was out of the spotlight for 20 years, he put on weight

would Americans understand this?
no, we are to stupid.
No, Britsplain it to us.
Why wouldn't we...?
We fucking invented fast food. And no, we are not really proud of it.
@iceyice11 Haha
@johntw1000
much better as a good! :))
This album is such a disappointment. Ironically this album was quite conformist to the commercial sound of the time.
Sam Schofield It was better live, but I do still enjoy this album. Just like his solo work, he just evolves.
U toffs
Not his best.
