You know how expensive this gear is, son? Jokes aside, the show was a tax write-off for M$. They got their money by greenlighting the production. Corporations get money back on their taxes if they fund arts projects, such as TV shows. They don't have to be good or even be watched. Look up Warner Bros and canceling Coyote Vs Acme. Finished movie, that made them more money by not being seen by anybody. The world is beyond fucked and its because companies like Microsoft spend more on Lobbying the government than they do actually providing the services they're known for.
Again, the plot of this episode revolves around a decision that makes no sense. Why would parangosky lie about what the spike does, and why is it a bad thing? She gives Ackerson the impression that the Spartans are sent to their deaths pointlessly, when in reality she has a decent chance of wiping out an entire covenant fleet at the cost of relatively few human lives. Her decision, as well as Ackersons resulting actions, don't make sense in a galaxy where humanity is fighting against its very extinction. Side note, wouldn't it be so much easier for her to achieve her goals if the Spartans could be used as special forces alongside the entire military she abandoned on reach? Another side note. Why do all the major conflicts happen OFF SCREEN? The show is hardly low on budget
One of the biggest issues with the show is the plotline that the covenant is a huge problem and the extinction of the human race is on the line isn't conveyed well. If it was then plan to send the spartans on a suicide mission to give humanity more time would seem logical. Hell even the spartans themselves would probably be down with it. They ran the simulations where they all die except like 2 people. They realize they probably won't make it anyway. I think reach in this alternate timeline is just like a normal planet and not a military stronghold, onyx is the stronghold so I suppose it kind of makes sense they abandon reach and rally at the main stronghold in this timeline. As for the last part I really hold they saved all the budget for an epic shipboarding fight scene in the last episode.
Parangosky just needs a huge moustache to twirl after every line she says, as a Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain that she is. Why not tell Spartan-IIIs about their goal? Why lie to them? Why abandon military on the Reach?
@@LucefieD reach is definitely a military stronghold. All the major higher ups were there as well as a massive military presence. What we see after its destruction is a relatively small armed force of oni agents and Spartans.
I miss when the Forerunners were mysterious ancient aliens who sacrificed themselves to save the galaxy. Now they have to be involved in everything through some weird genetic destiny bullshit. I don't care if it was alluded to briefly in Bungie's games. The key word is "alluded", not outright confirmed - kept things ambiguous.
Mate, this show makes me so irrationally angry. Such bad decisions are continuously made and all the characters are bafflingly stupid. I started reading some more of the books, and having the barest levels of competency being demonstrated in things like military strategy or critical thinking is a breath of fresh air. The whole premise of the show being fundamentally divergent from the previously established (and proven popular by fans, a “captive audience” - aka: easy money) universe is so painfully inept. It poisoned the well from the beginning but I held on that there was at least going to be some cool shit to watch, but URGH. It just hurts. And the people sticking up for this mediocre garbage? Mad as shit. This could- this *should* have been phenomenal. Adding another ‘missed opportunity’ that has made up the last 10 or so years of Halo. The memes are fun but I’ve never hoped a show gets cancelled more than this one.

I agree that they completely fucked up the point of Halsey's character by turning her from a woman who cared about the Spartans but also kidnapped them and put them through hell in a fucked up, yet effective, attempt to save humanity by turning her into a crazy narcissist who wants to create the next step in human evolution or something. But in my opinion they already fucked this up in season 1. So the forerunner gene thing really just adds a little squeeze more shit to a pre-existing mountain of dung.
This show has gone completely off the rails. It invents new characters, doesn't tell you the setting, and seemingly has phantom episodes where things happen off-screen between episodes. @@LucefieD to be fair 1. to create something to interface a Covenant ship must mean they have been on a Covenant ships before to understand their reactors and this technology 2. for every 10 UNSC ships they can take down 1 Covie ship. Which means 10 ships = capturing a solar system destroying weapon for the UNSC that can wipe an entire Covenant armada. 3. Therefore strategically when they retreated from Reach leaving everyone to die. They could have wiped the entire covenant fleet with just capturing a Corvet class ship…. I’m just pointing out they created a silver bullet which is pretty much power scaled the UNSC to incredible heights, not thinking of the implications to the rest of the story. And I’m just talking about this Halo TV universe. But tbh it’s just a show and I bet the whole purpose of creating it is because they will destroy Halo with it in season 3. Almost like noble teams mission only instead of cortana it's to acquire this.... ship killing weapon. Although now that I think about it that's pretty much what halo does itself. A tactical pulse that kills everything... so why have this secondary thing that also does that. Overall the show could have been way better obviously if they cut out more of the human side of stuff and focused on reach. I mean they needed kwan to open the flood lab but that's about it. They could have ditched her character and just had halsey and miranda figure it out. I will say the introduction of the flood does have my interest peaked and I dare say I'm almost excited for season 3.
Even though you don't like the show, the fact that you or other people are watching will make them have another season. Though it is not perfect, they can't just can the whole show, they just have to make it better. Master chief is too big of a character to just throw away. Fred was the best leader after John. John is a great leader, but wasn't the best at anything regarding physical attributes. He was the luckiest. That's why Halsey picked him. Because he's a lucky bloke. Now he's like part-alien or some shit.
4:47 to be honest, I thought this was what was implied by the Librarian in Halo 4. Chief and the Spartans being a long winded plan and Halsey as well. "you are the culmination of a thousand lifetimes of planning" etc.

To actually enjoy this show i had to just clear my mind if establidhed lore and story. In a way i kind of prefer they didn't adapt whats already been done, we would know what would happen and how. Not saying its vetter by any means but it's certainly... Interesting to watch unfold, this season has been a mich better experience for me compsred to the first. Kwan was somewhat interesting in this episode i dont like that shes a blessed one or whatever but at least it went sormwhere that was interesting, the flood research laboratory they found was a very good tease to whats to come even though it wasnt so subtle from the cave markings. I was actually intrigued to know more about it.
For real, I'm still wondering how ONI even knows about Halo at all. I must have totally missed the part about them even finding out about it, much leas what its for. This entire series is so cringe. I can't give a crap about 90% of whats going on. None of its really coherent. And why do they keep trying to make magic and visions a thing? So obnoxious and unnecessary

I think that there is always only one screenwriter who writes all the series, books and films worldwide. This screenwriter likes robots and he believes that they will soon come to life (like Pinocchio), he likes rings and he believes that civilizations just emerge for no reason, the future looks bleak for people who are not billionaires, etc.... .The guy has written all the scripts since the beginning of TV and cinema. One of his first films was Metropolis. With a robot that is human (Pinocchio 2.0) with a dark version of our world, etc.
I love your recap, very entertaining. But I agree with you, this show is so bad. There is just to many things wrong with the story and so many contradictions. It's like this show is written by people who have a mental disability because they don't seem to be able to make a link how one piece of information is contradictory or nonsensical to the other piece of information that was given to us. You know what people do that, sociopaths and pathological liars. To many flaws to point out in this show.
An 8 episode season and for the 7th episode we waste sooo much time on pointless stories....we dont care about kessler we dont care about the pirate story i dont care for them trying to force kawn mystic bs and idc about maki self loathing.why in the last episode say kai say i always trust chief only to beat him up cause she does not in fact trust him....the problem is poor writing void of staying true to source material and so many pointless stories like why.why was 40 mins wasted just to finally put chief in his suit.

edit: ah yes, the 2 seconds of Halo from afar didn't really make an 'OMG' impression on me. I just realised, we're at the end of Season 2 and we haven't actually seen the Halo yet with our protags eyes. Just holograms or visions. Did you not play halo 4. . That's literally what the librarian states. That John had forerunner DNA that's why he was special. Now it's just all the Spartans instead of just John..
And that's the problem. John being a one-off, I can kind of understand. But all the Spartans having that same genetic mutation and that being the reason why Halsey decided to make the Spartans in the first place, is a bad spin on the reason behind the Spartan's creation. I wasn't a fan of the genesong idea in Halo 4 either. And the wider implication that the Librarian imposed a Gaes on the human race that would lead them to developing A.I, Mjolnir armour and other forms of advanced technology feels like a cop out and makes humanity look like idiots. It undermines humanity's major achievements as just "ancient aliens told us to do it". That's part of a wider problem with 343's take on the Forerunners, is that they have to be involved with *everything*, and because of that the mystery and intrigue is sapped out of them.
The genesong dates all the way back to Halo CE. It is hinted at by some of the dialog of Guilty Spark. It is also hinted at in "The Flood". MC is somehow able to instinctively operate forerunner control panels. Cortina questions him about it, and John cannot explain how he knew what to press. Also the librarian never said that MC had forerunner DNA. She said that she implanted seeds (a gaes) in certain human DNA. Read all the books and as far as I know there is no splicing of forerunner DNA with any other species.
I think this may be the first episode this season where I could almost watch without cringing. Almost. We had the trio mathematician, linguist, and the mystic enter the lab of doom. One arm and his wife almost end the quest to find their son ( why, why oh lord could you not have just ended that quest). At last master cheeks finally finds his armor and nearly wears it all, nearly. Lastly he see the Halo. I really think the original storyline was way better and I believe there could be room in that to fiddle with it a bit and still not completely offend all the fans. I am still horrified to think that there are some people who watch this show and think of this as the story of Halo. They would still need to pull a miracle out there wazoo for me to stay subscribed to paramount. I would rather watch an animated series that follows the story than this.
Man, the spartan III’s had so much potential. Imagine if we really got to know and care about them over several episodes, and the gut punch when we learn none of them will come back alive. But instead it’s just Parez and a bunch of randos.. I really couldn’t care less if they all die.
I definitely have problems with the show, but let me argue against some of your critique. 1. Cortana leading the covenant to halo is very stupid, but she did the same thing in "The Fall of Reach". Instead of performing a random jump when fleeing Reach, she jumped the pillar of Autumn in a straight line to the Halo with Covenant ships in pursuit. She did it out of curiosity knowing the covenant were interested in whatever may be at the coordinates she plotted. 2. If the UNSC abandoned Reach because they could not win that fight, what makes you think that they could muster a force to try and take the ring. The only option is Parangoscy's plan to sacrifice an entire fleet and the spartan 3's to make sure the covenant do not get the ring.
Now that I think of it, 343 retconned the making of the Spartan program back in Halo 4. This is when the Chief and the Librarian were having the talk and she ‘upgraded’ him.
The Showrunners truly believe we are all stupid kids. They have zero respect for the intelligence of the audience and zero clue how old the average Halo fan that wants to watch a Halo show is. This feels like a script written for the Young Adult books crowd. Honestly though I bet most kids would find the absurd laziness and plothole ridden storytelling as ridiculous as we do. This show sucks.

Then why can ONI get vision of the Covenant fleet on their holographic display? And why are they panicking about that fleet if it's not close by? Why is the slip space jump from Onyx to that star system so short and looks to be barely a minute? They did a poor job establishing the scope of this battle and how far apart everything is - that's all I'm sayin'. Difficult to establish some stakes when it's barely explained where everything is.

Actual I’m ok with this change to the Spartans as this is similar to what they did in Halo 4. We discover in Halo 4 the Librarian hid seeds from the Didact in human DNA that affect human evolution.
I think they're going to fit all of halo CE into the final episode. I mean, over half the game is helping a crashed ship and discovering what halo is, which they already know. And they already want to destroy it.
The explosion from the ship actually makes sense in cannon though, it’s the same concept as the pillar of autumn exploding, just stronger because it’s a covenant ship and the engines are a lot more crazy on those

The ring is to nearby to the fleets of both teams and ackerson said that is possible to wipe the halo out too with the explosion, what I think is that the explosion has an epicenter, and the rest is just a harmless expansion of the explosion coz such weapon to exist is just crazy and like you said, whats the point with the Halo. If you don´t like the show you are free to no watch it anymore.

I started reading some more of the books, and having the barest levels of competency being demonstrated in things like military strategy or critical thinking is a breath of fresh air.
The whole premise of the show being fundamentally divergent from the previously established (and proven popular by fans, a “captive audience” - aka: easy money) universe is so painfully inept. It poisoned the well from the beginning but I held on that there was at least going to be some cool shit to watch, but URGH. It just hurts.
And the people sticking up for this mediocre garbage? Mad as shit.
This could- this *should* have been phenomenal. Adding another ‘missed opportunity’ that has made up the last 10 or so years of Halo. The memes are fun but I’ve never hoped a show gets cancelled more than this one.

I honestly despise the idea of humanity having a device that can cause Covenant ships to self destruct. 1. I dont know how that is even possible and 2. That is so overpowered… humanity is supposed to be underpowered and be fighting technologically superior enemies. Them having a device that is that… powerful is very stupid to me and does not fit halo.

I agree that they completely fucked up the point of Halsey's character by turning her from a woman who cared about the Spartans but also kidnapped them and put them through hell in a fucked up, yet effective, attempt to save humanity by turning her into a crazy narcissist who wants to create the next step in human evolution or something. But in my opinion they already fucked this up in season 1. So the forerunner gene thing really just adds a little squeeze more shit to a pre-existing mountain of dung.
This show has gone completely off the rails. It invents new characters, doesn't tell you the setting, and seemingly has phantom episodes where things happen off-screen between episodes. When Shreiberstein BowlegGold the chosen one is standing next to his armor, it's literally smaller than him. Which is hysterical because his female fellow spartan literally is almost his same size. Well at least that insufferable lesbian woman with the goofy platoon got donkey-punched.
I'm almost at the point where I am having to realize that writing is now total garbage. I don't know it it's DEI, Feminism, BLM, Communism, Laziness, or what the F ever, but it's just gone. They are dead set on deconstructing reality.

to be fair it overloads the reactor of covenant tech which is much better than theirs. The spike itself isn't a bomb.

1. to create something to interface a Covenant ship must mean they have been on a Covenant ships before to understand their reactors and this technology
2. for every 10 UNSC ships they can take down 1 Covie ship. Which means 10 ships = capturing a solar system destroying weapon for the UNSC that can wipe an entire Covenant armada.
3. Therefore strategically when they retreated from Reach leaving everyone to die. They could have wiped the entire covenant fleet with just capturing a Corvet class ship….
I’m just pointing out they created a silver bullet which is pretty much power scaled the UNSC to incredible heights, not thinking of the implications to the rest of the story. And I’m just talking about this Halo TV universe.
But tbh it’s just a show and I bet the whole purpose of creating it is because they will destroy Halo with it in season 3. As there is no Pillar of Autumn.

Although now that I think about it that's pretty much what halo does itself. A tactical pulse that kills everything... so why have this secondary thing that also does that.
Overall the show could have been way better obviously if they cut out more of the human side of stuff and focused on reach. I mean they needed kwan to open the flood lab but that's about it. They could have ditched her character and just had halsey and miranda figure it out.
I will say the introduction of the flood does have my interest peaked and I dare say I'm almost excited for season 3.

Though it is not perfect, they can't just can the whole show, they just have to make it better. Master chief is too big of a character to just throw away. This episode shows these people have no fucking clue what Halo is. This Forerunner Spartan shit is nonsense.
Sam was the strongest and tallest. Kelly was the fastest. Linda was the best sniper. Fred was the best leader after John. John is a great leader, but wasn't the best at anything regarding physical attributes. He was the luckiest. That's why Halsey picked him. Because he's a lucky bloke. Now he's like part-alien or some shit.
4:47 to be honest, I thought this was what was implied by the Librarian in Halo 4. Chief and the Spartans being a long winded plan and Halsey as well. "you are the culmination of a thousand lifetimes of planning" etc.

I was happily rewatching halo machinimas before I realized that today’s Thursday….
Admittedly saying “it may destroy halo” could just be Ackerson guessing and being completely ignorant to what the ring is made of….that’s not a problem(doesn’t fix anything else)
To actually enjoy this show i had to just clear my mind if establidhed lore and story. In a way i kind of prefer they didn't adapt whats already been done, we would know what would happen and how. Not saying its vetter by any means but it's certainly... Interesting to watch unfold, this season has been a mich better experience for me compsred to the first.
Kwan was somewhat interesting in this episode i dont like that shes a blessed one or whatever but at least it went sormwhere that was interesting, the flood research laboratory they found was a very good tease to whats to come even though it wasnt so subtle from the cave markings.
I was actually intrigued to know more about it.

I think that there is always only one screenwriter who writes all the series, books and films worldwide. This screenwriter likes robots and he believes that they will soon come to life (like Pinocchio), he likes rings and he believes that civilizations just emerge for no reason, the future looks bleak for people who are not billionaires, etc.... .The guy has written all the scripts since the beginning of TV and cinema. One of his first films was Metropolis. With a robot that is human (Pinocchio 2.0) with a dark version of our world, etc.

But I agree with you, this show is so bad. There is just to many things wrong with the story and so many contradictions. It's like this show is written by people who have a mental disability because they don't seem to be able to make a link how one piece of information is contradictory or nonsensical to the other piece of information that was given to us. You know what people do that, sociopaths and pathological liars. To many flaws to point out in this show.
An 8 episode season and for the 7th episode we waste sooo much time on pointless stories....we dont care about kessler we dont care about the pirate story i dont care for them trying to force kawn mystic bs and idc about maki self loathing.why in the last episode say kai say i always trust chief only to beat him up cause she does not in fact trust him....the problem is poor writing void of staying true to source material and so many pointless stories like why.why was 40 mins wasted just to finally put chief in his suit.

Did you not play halo 4. . That's literally what the librarian states. That John had forerunner DNA that's why he was special. Now it's just all the Spartans instead of just John..
and Halsey didn't instill that in him.
And that's the problem. John being a one-off, I can kind of understand. But all the Spartans having that same genetic mutation and that being the reason why Halsey decided to make the Spartans in the first place, is a bad spin on the reason behind the Spartan's creation.
I wasn't a fan of the genesong idea in Halo 4 either. And the wider implication that the Librarian imposed a Gaes on the human race that would lead them to developing A.I, Mjolnir armour and other forms of advanced technology feels like a cop out and makes humanity look like idiots. It undermines humanity's major achievements as just "ancient aliens told us to do it". That's part of a wider problem with 343's take on the Forerunners, is that they have to be involved with *everything*, and because of that the mystery and intrigue is sapped out of them.
The genesong dates all the way back to Halo CE. It is hinted at by some of the dialog of Guilty Spark. It is also hinted at in "The Flood". MC is somehow able to instinctively operate forerunner control panels. Cortina questions him about it, and John cannot explain how he knew what to press.
Also the librarian never said that MC had forerunner DNA. She said that she implanted seeds (a gaes) in certain human DNA. Read all the books and as far as I know there is no splicing of forerunner DNA with any other species.

I think this may be the first episode this season where I could almost watch without cringing. Almost. We had the trio mathematician, linguist, and the mystic enter the lab of doom. One arm and his wife almost end the quest to find their son ( why, why oh lord could you not have just ended that quest). At last master cheeks finally finds his armor and nearly wears it all, nearly. Lastly he see the Halo.
I really think the original storyline was way better and I believe there could be room in that to fiddle with it a bit and still not completely offend all the fans.
I am still horrified to think that there are some people who watch this show and think of this as the story of Halo. They would still need to pull a miracle out there wazoo for me to stay subscribed to paramount. I would rather watch an animated series that follows the story than this.
Man, the spartan III’s had so much potential. Imagine if we really got to know and care about them over several episodes, and the gut punch when we learn none of them will come back alive. But instead it’s just Parez and a bunch of randos.. I really couldn’t care less if they all die.

I definitely have problems with the show, but let me argue against some of your critique. 1. Cortana leading the covenant to halo is very stupid, but she did the same thing in "The Fall of Reach". Instead of performing a random jump when fleeing Reach, she jumped the pillar of Autumn in a straight line to the Halo with Covenant ships in pursuit. She did it out of curiosity knowing the covenant were interested in whatever may be at the coordinates she plotted.
2. If the UNSC abandoned Reach because they could not win that fight, what makes you think that they could muster a force to try and take the ring. The only option is Parangoscy's plan to sacrifice an entire fleet and the spartan 3's to make sure the covenant do not get the ring.

Now that I think of it, 343 retconned the making of the Spartan program back in Halo 4. This is when the Chief and the Librarian were having the talk and she ‘upgraded’ him.
The Showrunners truly believe we are all stupid kids. They have zero respect for the intelligence of the audience and zero clue how old the average Halo fan that wants to watch a Halo show is. This feels like a script written for the Young Adult books crowd. Honestly though I bet most kids would find the absurd laziness and plothole ridden storytelling as ridiculous as we do. This show sucks.

Wait, the Halo isn’t near Onyx. They have to enter Slipspace to get to it. It’s in an entire different system.
Then why can ONI get vision of the Covenant fleet on their holographic display? And why are they panicking about that fleet if it's not close by? Why is the slip space jump from Onyx to that star system so short and looks to be barely a minute? They did a poor job establishing the scope of this battle and how far apart everything is - that's all I'm sayin'. Difficult to establish some stakes when it's barely explained where everything is.
It's close comparatively, you need slipspace to get anywhere.

Actual I’m ok with this change to the Spartans as this is similar to what they did in Halo 4. We discover in Halo 4 the Librarian hid seeds from the Didact in human DNA that affect human evolution.

The explosion from the ship actually makes sense in cannon though, it’s the same concept as the pillar of autumn exploding, just stronger because it’s a covenant ship and the engines are a lot more crazy on those

The ring is to nearby to the fleets of both teams and ackerson said that is possible to wipe the halo out too with the explosion, what I think is that the explosion has an epicenter, and the rest is just a harmless expansion of the explosion coz such weapon to exist is just crazy and like you said, whats the point with the Halo. If you don´t like the show you are free to no watch it anymore.
