I got my breville pro machine last week and I was wasting so much coffee beans in the grind process. After trying it a few times I also found 14 sec grind for a double shot was a decent amount so I’ll be sticking to that for a while. I don’t think I’ll ever try the single shot. Lol I’m still trying to finesse the pour time because the automatic setting for the double shot was always under 30 secs. I’ve figured out how to manually pour for 35-37 secs using the menu button and so far that’s what has worked for me. There’s still a lot to learn and experiment with. It can feel overwhelming as a newbie to an expresso machine but thank you for your video and walking us through your process. I was so over watching the reviews!!!
Thanx for the comment! It is one thing in life is frustrating and exhilarating all At the same time lol. Great job on the purchase! I’m sure you are already glad you bought it! Everyone has there own way to get the perfect espresso shot, and maybe it shouldn’t be a debate about how to do it, rather just inform everyone and have a good discussion. Maybe we can all learn from each other rather than be negative. I really apreciate the time to comment , and you have an interesting way to get a good shot, I will try you method because I’m always open to new ideas!
Thanks for making this video! I’m new at this and watching you go through the steps helped me a lot. Just curious, do you mess with the water temp at all? I’ve been using a dark roast (Starbucks Espresso beans) and using the default middle temp setting.
Thanks for watching! I put the water temp to the hottest setting and only use medium roast beans. The dark beans will eventually clog up your grinder because they’re too okly
Nice vid. One thing you could try is dosing less coffee. 6:15 You can see the shape of the shower screen screw in the coffee puck. If you would have a bottomless portafilter, you would see channeling because of that. I always use a scale and grind only a single dose for consistency.
I'd recommend tamping harder and putting it in but not pressing begin double shot. Take it out again and if you see the imprint of the shower screen on the dry grounds then lower your dosage until you don't see that imprint every time
in the first part if steaming milk you dive pipe only 1-2cm under milk line, at the and at finish within 10-15 seconds before stop you dive it deeper close to bottom of can and put it in an angle and let it form a vortex for last 15 seconds.
Your very welcome! Just a fore warning , the machine is extremely frustrating to begin with but rest assured once you get it figured out, you will never look back.
@@keto4life197 Before you get the Oracle, I have read one comment from another channel that between the Express and the Oracle, the Express makes a better cup. Being that the Pro is similar to the Express, I figured to bring it to your attention.
Hi . I just bought this machine but when I steam the milk it’s getting hot super quick .I don’t know how I fix this . And sometimes doesn’t steam?!!!!!
Hey there!! What I usually do is put the tip of the wand barely in the milk for the first little bit, allowing it to infuse the bubbles, and then once you start seeing the milk grow, put the wand deeper into the milk until you get the desired temperature. Also make sure the wand is on the side of the jug so it creates the swirling action. Hope this helps! Thanx for watching!!! Remember once you get all the kinks out, you will absolutely adore this machine!!
Have you tried stopping the grind halfway through and pressing the coffee down in the portafilter before resuming the grind as an alternative to shaking the portafilter? I just got one of these but haven't tried yet.
Hey! Yes I have paused it before , but just found that it’s one less step just to shake it. But maybe it’s not? Lol just a thing I guess. Thanks for the advice! And thanx for watching!!
Great video--very helpful! One question. I have owned both the Barista pro and (currently) the Barista touch. On both machines, sometimes the beans stop flowing into the grinder and I have to stir them around in the hopper to get the flow going again. Does this ever happen to you?
Yes, it does happen to me but only when I use dark roast beans , which are really oily. Since I’ve moved to medium roast beans , I have never had the problem again( but I’ve had to wash the oil off the hopper before I added the medium roast)
I'm by no means an expert but based on you view of the puck you provided you can see the imprint of the group head screen that means you not tamping enough or you have too much coffer in the filter basket from what I've read
I was researching and I found that people with a lot of experience in these home machines say that the darker roasts carry a lot more oil on the outside of the bean which do a lot of damage to the grinder in these all in one machines. Have you had any issues or do you use more medium roasted beans? I just bought a Breville Barista Express so I’m wondering what to do to get the most life out of the machine. Thanks!
Hello! First of all thank you for watching my video! To answer your question, it does say in the instructions that dark roast coffee can damage your grinder because of the oils. However, for myself , I always try to use medium-dark beans which I find are not oily at all. I have in a pinch bought grocery store dark roasts, but just make sure to brush out the grinder and clean it really good before putting better beans in! Thanx for the comment , feel free to message me anytime with any more questions!
Can you link your coffee beans? And I would also like to know the internal grind setting. When I pull the espresso (on the same machine) I can't get it above 20 seconds right now :-(.....I am fiddling with the grind settings. I might need to try some different coffees as well. Thanks for this video..!
Hey ! So the internal grind setting is at 1 ( which is from factory) I have never touched that. I linked the beans in the video description, and this morning when I made my latte , I kept the setting at 2 and 14.5 seconds, I was able to achieve a 32 second shot. The only thing I did different is I gave it a heavier tamp! Thanks for watching hope this helps!
I'm going to get this machine and I know nothing about coffee, iv been researching what best coffee is out there, can you give any tips when I get this machine? Cheers, watching from UK
Hey there! You won’t regret the purchase!! I would suggest the best coffee you could get would be any medium dark roast , bought in small batches from a local roaster. That does get expensive though. I have found a LAVAZA crema gusto coffee that is decently priced and makes a really really good cup of espresso, and you can buy that on Amazon. I’m pretty sure I have a link to it in the description
Hi, are you using the single or dual walled filters? I am just curious how the pressurized filters make the coffee also. One thing I want to point out, that some people leave the hopper empty and only place the exact number of beans when ready to use. This way, the shots are more consistent, and there is little to no coffee grounds left in the burrs.
Thanks for watching and commenting! To answer your first question, I have only ever used the single wall double. I may have tried the dual wall in a pinch to try pre ground coffee, but it was once. As for the second question, as I do not have anything against the ones that measure out the exact amount for every shot, I do not or probably will never do that with this machine. As you can probably tell from my videos, I am not a very complicated man, I just enjoy the finer things in life , and this machine gives you the finer things in life. It’s designed with a hopper, and a timing system for a reason, so my reviews on this machine highlight the fact that I use this machine and all its parts as it was intended. I feel like if I was going to go the next level ( which I have no plans as of yet) of espresso, I would consider a higher end machine which would not have a hopper installed, where the measuring beans is encouraged. Hope that makes sense!
@@hazelcreekheritagefarm8092 Agreed with you on this. I just think it's simpler to weigh the beans to reduce variables, but in the end, what matters most is how we enjoy using our equipment. :)
Hey, thanks for the video. I recently got a Barista Pro. Can I ask- what should I do when my grind setting at 7 chokes the machine and stops the espresso pouring, but at grind setting 8 it runs too fast and doesn’t have that honey consistency but more a rapid white flow? Also, I like dark roasts and the beans I’ve got in there right now are seriously oily! Is there any way I can make sure they don’t damage my machine do you know?
Hi there I will try to answer your question… can I ask you what your grind time is set at?? It’s hard to suggest what you should do if I don’t have that info. But for now I can suggest to play with how hard you are tamping (or how soft. ). Also try to avoid oily beans. Stick to the freshest medium to medium dark beans if possible. Thank you so much for your comment , I hope we can work this out together!
@@hazelcreekheritagefarm8092 hi there! Thanks for the help 😊 so it’s at 16 seconds at the moment for grind, that’s at 7 at 8 it’s about 14.5. I use a levelling tool to get a good puck and I tamp light for finer grind, I’ve tamped hard on coarser grind but still flows too fast. Im putting 17.5 grams into basket and getting about 35g in 30 seconds?
Ok sorry I have honestly never measured out the beans. So I wouldn’t know the rate I would get but if your espresso is coming out too fast , that means too coarse of a grind. So your under extracting your shot. Also with my machine I find I am always on the lower end of grind settings, usually 3-5 and currently grinding at 15 seconds. Rarely do I sway from those parameters even with different beans. And that will typically end up with 8-9 seconds before the shot, and will be nice and slow and end in a 34-36 second when it’s done. Which I my opinion gives me an incredible latte. The only thing I really change is the tamp. I usually start with a lighter tamp and then tamp incrementally harder with each shot till it ends close to that magic number. Hope that makes sense!
@@hazelcreekheritagefarm8092 sure, but if I were you I’d definitely look into not letting it run for 34-36 seconds. It’s considered best to be around 25-30 anything past us said to burn the beans.
