You know, despite many baristas finding a million flaws of your brew, I want to express my appreciation to your process. The simple manner in which you made this cup of coffee brings me joy. And, I just know this translates into your overall demeanor. I hope I may one day reach this level of simplicity. For it is surely a great way to enjoy life. And I mean come on! A tree?! We love that here.
Hello there!!! Thank you very much for your kind words. Yes I am definitely not a barista, but honestly think there’s a lot more people out there that are just everyday people like me , who sometimes appreciate the finer things in life, so this is what the video is on here for. I am not claiming to be a barista, nor do I have the ins and outs of the science behind the perfect espresso. What I CAN Tell you though , is , I can guarantee the way I make my latte every morning is BY FAR far superior to a regular drip coffee. Thanks for watching !! I appreciate your comment very much!
Gotta say, of the 10 “professional” videos I have watched, yours made the MOST sence and helped me the most! Love the simplicity and easy coffee language 🙏🏼😅Thanks!!
i watched a bunch of reviews on this machine and i couldnt get myself to bite the bullet a drop the money for one, but after watching a real human just making himself some espresso i think im finally going to do it. thank you brotha and that was a beautiful tree haha
That means the world to us that we were able to sway you in the right direction! You will not regret your decision, I assure you, and feel free to ask me anything if you have any issues!! Thanx for watching!
This is the most helpful review I've seen! I love that this is in real-time, not speed up, to get a great idea of how long using a machine like this will take. Thank you for the demo, review, and tips!
As another commenter said, the simplicity of your process makes me happy. I'm making it very complicated. I want to learn more but now I see I can make a flipping latte now and not lose my mind in the process.
I’ve been watching videos all night on this machine and I’ve got to say, I loved this review a hundred times more than the others. I can relate a ton, wife wants the fancy sauced up stuff and I just want a simple bro latte, great video man!
I agree with other comments - I really appreciate that this video is a straight take with no edits, so I can see exactly all the steps he took. I think every other video I’ve watched either cuts out segments of the video - so I’m not exactly sure what was done - or spends a bunch of time on things other than making the coffee. This one nailed it. Thanks!
So good to see a review using all the stock attachments. So many reviews use bottomless baskets and various portafilters and other attachments. Many thanks. This is the machine I'm having for Christmas this year.
Thanks for the kind comment, I’m glad you enjoyed the video. As your can probably tell, I am not a fancy barista who wants all the bells and whistles. This machine was built with all the tools necessary to make an amazing latte. That’s all I need! Thanks for watching!
Have gone a good year working from home without drinking coffee, I really do miss it though. Think I'll join you this Christmas and get myself one of these machines.
Awesome video man. Most chilled Sage review ever :) I just got one of these machines so its good to see it working well and you loving it after a year and a half. Awsome tree btw :D
I have tried for weeks to foam the milk so that it gets this thick creamy consistency. Sometimes the milk was too foamy sometimes too liquid and sometimes both. I have seen many videos on YT that have told me something about "rolling phases" and "pulling phases". Or how I have to hold the nozzle to the millimeter and at what angle. And now you come and just put the cup under the nozzle and the milk is virtually perfect. Thx buddy. :)
I’m glad I could help ya! When I made this video, I had very little ideas on how to make a good latte. It’s definitely a big learning curve. Thank you for watching…. Always appreciated!!
the frothing is a bit bad you have to hold the milk pitcher with your hand and you have to put the tip of the steaming wand in one of the corners and start steaming by letting air through the milk and you can hear the tis tis sound leave that for about 5-6 sec depending on your drink if its a latte you want a little bit of foam so you can do latte art or if you are making a cappuccino you should let more air through so when your done letting air through you should let the steam wand deep in and make sure the milk is spinning while your doing that put your hand over the milk pitcher and see if its the right temp its about 60 celsius when you get this temp you can't lay your hand over the milk pitcher and thats it thank you i really enjoyed your video .
Thanks for this video!! I received one for Mother's Day but was asked to make sure it's what I really want since my husband (who bought it) doesn't drink espresso and didn't trust his own decision. I went down a crazy research rabbit hole and was becoming extremely frustrated. Your review is a breath of fresh air. I'm going to keep it. Thanks again!!
Aww that means so much!! Thanx for your kind words!! If you have any questions, please don’t be shy to reach out. I am not a professional at all but I have kinda figured this machine out to a point. Thanx for watching!!
Great review and video! i was dead at the 'whisker dam' (need one for our 12 YO son who still drinks milk and has a milk moustache to show for it). Watched this with my husband as we're looking at getting one of these - we both died at the whisker dam ending... I can die happy I've seen it all.... LOL
You are very welcome! That’s the way we live. We are not glamorous in any way but really enjoy the finer things in life. And believe in really good products. We appreciate your comment ! Thank you.
This video helped so much! Did you know the steam “on” wheel if you turn the other way will pour just hot water? Saves you having to keep drying your coffee holder thing?
Thanks for this review! I’m considering this model and many of the pro reviews don’t really show what the espresso and milk look like during the process.
Very glad We could help! Thanx for subscribing and watching. We really appreciate it. If you see my other videos , you will notice I am not a barista , but only a guy that has a vested interest in quality products that help the quality of life.
Hey, so I picked up this machine and am playing around with it. Just using the auto double setting and a grind setting of 15, I’m getting about a 17-18 second shot. Any tips pulling a shot around 25-30 seconds?
@@christineprovo hey so that’s definitely something you’ll have to constantly play around with. Because every single brand of coffee and the freshness has a huge role to play when it comes to shot time. I have figured out only to use beans from local roasters to make sure it’s as fresh as possible. And with that , I have figured out 14.5 seconds on a 4 grind size. Take that formula and folly my intructions on the video. When it comes to pack, that’ll be hard to explain but the pressure I use is is hard as I can but a little less than that. I’m sorry if that dissent make any sense , but that’s what gives me a 30-36 second shot every time.
I appreciate your help! Is that a 4 grind on the burr setting or the knob? I’ll definitely be playing around with it - already it’s a better shot than my old machine, so that’s good.
@@christineprovo you bet 4 on the grind knob to the left of the machine. I’m glad I can help!! Also I’m embarrassed to say this but when I first bought the machine, I went through a whole massive bag of coffee beans trying to figure it out lol. Don’t do what I did. The grind knob go down slowly. It will take a couple ports filters worth for the burr to actually adjust to the setting. But don’t throw the espresso out, use it for your latte, just expect it will take a few espresso days to get it set.
My next one is Either this or the Oracle Touch. I have had the BES 870XL and loved it to death for over 5 years then sold it. Went to the Bambino Plus (using it right now) I am on the fence 500 is not worth it. Drip tray is too small have to backwash it every 200 shots or so... All in all, you have to be a true coffee lover for 900USD or 2600USD Oracle T. IMHO its not much at all if you compare it to Starbucks and when you spend your money at other coffee shops its like a no brainer. I LOVE THE WHISKER DAM :))))!!!!! nice video.
We bought the Breville Barista Touch .. started using it multiple times per day per person and since after about a couple months if it's used once every other day with 4 coffee drinkers it's a miracle. By far the coffee machine of choice is our touchscreen Keurig. It's stupid simple and makes good enough coffee.
Yeah the keurig is ok in my books , just find the coffee tastes a little weak for me. But everyone has they’re own opinion….. thanx for the comment , and thanx for watching!
Hey there! I couldn’t honestly tell you that answer Cos I have none er owned a mucking other than this one. What I can tell you though is the espresso that I can make out of this machine is way better than a Starbucks. So that must mean something. I highly recommend this machine!
Awesome to hear! Your doing better than I was the first few days I got mine.. I struggled hard lol. Thanx flor the comment ! And thanx for watching. Enjoy your espresso to the fullest!
Thanks for the comment! And thanx for watching! I would do a video on my toaster, but there’s a ton of videos on you tube that explain how to use a toaster , and they’re all way better than one I could ever make lol
@@hazelcreekheritagefarm8092 if i made a video on a toaster i would put the bread in start toasting and forget about it until i smell the toast burning lol. great vide by the way is that the brevile duel boiler you used?
Hey there it comes out hot, there is a temperature setting in the menu , set it to the highest possible, and make sure the temperature of your mile is hot as well. Thanks for watching, hope this helps!
The biggest mistake I have had with the whisker dam is the fact that I didn’t order more. I love them so much and have it in my pocket every where I go. I cannot live without it. Thanx for the comment! Thanx for watching!
Hi your way of making espresso is very good and you know all off the ways to make a good espresso, myself as a barista i think you should buy a leveler or a distributor you should look it up its very important and helpful.
Not sure where you’re located, but there is a place locally here in gloversville NY that roasts its own beans. Better than any place I’ve ever tasted. I have the same espresso machine and it makes the best coffee. The name of the store is called Mohawk Harvest. I’d be happy to send you some if they won’t ship.
All I ever have used it the breville brand descaler, and the breville cleaning discs. I get it off Amazon.. the machine will tell you when it needs to be descaled or flushed ! Thanx for your comment. You will be very pleased with this machine!!
Nice review and good looking cup of coffee. Two question. Hope much milk did you start with? OZ out line on the cup? Next where can I purchase the mustache saver?
For the frothing, use less milk, a frothing thermometer, and keep the wand against the wall and just under the surface. I hold the pitcher all the way to the end.
You got that right!! Thanks for watching ! And the comment ! I have a link in the description, it would help my channel out a lot if you get it from that affiliate link! ( not pressuring you at all ) either way you will not regret the purchase!!
Thanks for the great presentation. This is exactly the one I am thinking of purchasing. In your opinion, how is the quality of the straight espresso shots? Are they as good as coffee houses and restaurants?
That’s for the nice comment and thanks for watching!! It all depends of which bean your grinding. I find the local fresh roasters with a medium bean make an espresso shot similar or even better than store bought! P.s there is a link in the description for the espresso machine, it has an affiliate link attached to it which helps us give more content, but it does not increase the price to the buyer!
Super helpful video! I've been saving up to buy an espresso machine and have been watching reviews and videos on different ones, and I think I'm going to get this one! Also, it was a great tree haha.
Hi there ! I’m a new owner of the Barista Pro. Something is troubling me while using this machine and therefore need some inputs for those who already owned one. It took the grinder 28-30 secs to grind 17.5g of beans which I roasted a week ago. The grind size was set to 15 . I personally feel the grinder is taking too long to do the job. The instruction manual and the UA-cam videos I watched presented only 13 secs in general. Can you enlighten me?
Hey there ! First of all , thanks a lot for watching! So from what I understand, is the grind size( the knob to the left side of your machine, )will set the coarse- fine ness of the grind. That is very very touchy, and it is advisable to do it one click at a time for each espresso shot you make until you get the espresso strength you desire. , then leave it there. The grind time, is the knob at the front of the machine, and from my experience have never had an issue with it being out of time.
Also I don’t really measure out my beans, I simply put beans in the hopper. And let it ride. I find I get very good quality espresso doing it that way. I have never attempted to measure/weigh beans
I bought a Sage Barrista Pro today and have been working on getting a good shot. This is my first "real" espresso machine. Previously we had a phillips saeco automatic machine. So I am an absolute novice! I've been at it for 4 hours and went through about 300 grams of coffee. Which was expected of course. The Coffee I'm using is: - A freshly opend bag of L'OR ONYX - Intensity 12 (Intense & Powerfull) - I think it's to dark and oily for this machine The tools I'm using aren't ok I think: - Kitchen scale which measures to the gram (will need to buy a different one) - The standard Sage Tamper and my finger (I'll buy a palm equalizer and tamper) - The standard Sage Portafilter with the single wall dual shot filter (I'm considering buying a open bottom portafilter so i can see if there is channeling) I eventually got a fairly good shot out of it. The taste is awesome, the crema is ok! However the settings I'm using concern me a bit. - The main bur is set to 1 (which is the finest it can be as far as I know) - The grind coarseness of the grinder is set to 1 (which is the finest it can be as far as I know) - Weight: --> I started with 18 gram weighed per shot then grind --> I went down to 16 gram weighed per shot then grind --> I then configured the grinder time to 15.5 seconds which results in 16/17 grams of coffee grounds --> While grinding I wiggle the portafilter around to make the grounds fill evenly and make sure no coffee spills - I measured my presure with the Tamper on a people and I'm between 15 and 20 kg --> The pressure is exerted as evenly as possible --> Before tempering I move the coffee around so it's even, then I move the coffee that is over the edge to the middle from four sides with my finger, then tap the portafilter on a rubberpad on the counter --> The result consistently presses the Tamper into the filter, using my fingers around the Tamper brim, my fingers are on the fiter filter side when done with the Tamper. The Tamper is at a height where the champfer of the thickest part starts, as seen from the side of the filter. - For the shot: --> I set the heat 1 setting higher --> I preheat the porta filter --> I do a shot without the portafilter to make sure it's clean --> I set the portafilter and turn it in, in the beginning needing quite a bit of force. Afterwards noticing that keeping the handle on the portafilter in a different way makes it easier. --> On the machines timer the coffee starts to come out after 8 seconds and runs for 18 to 20 seconds. The resulting espresso has a full taste and is neither sour nor bitter! The crema is probably a bit thing though. My concerns: - The grind settings: --> I'm at the absolute thinest grind the machine can do, this concerns me. --> I will be getting lighter blends, which will probably need a coarser grind, but am a bit concerned about reaching the limit on the first day/calibration - The storage basket for the filters. This gets wet! Is that ok, or will that damage the other filters? - From the videos I saw this machine should run 18 to 25 seconds. Which I'm just barely getting. Is this ok am doing something wrong? Any advise/help/considerations would be greatly appraciated! I can make a video of my process and make it available to you if that helps.
Hey there ! The coarser you grind, the faster your shot will be. In my experience, my settings for the grind size ( no matter the brand or freshness of beans) always varies from 3 to 5. Rarely any higher than that. As far as the amount, that ranges anywhere between 13.5 and 15 seconds. What I have found with the tamp, the feeling should be almost like a stuttering feeling. Kinda hard to explain sorry. But don’t push too hard. Every different bag of beans will have a slightly different setting but will typically be within the perimeters I have mentioned. I also strive very hard to achieve a 32-36 second shot as that will give the optimal espresso flavour and quality. With you mentioning about you puck being wet, that to me sound like the espresso is being under extracted which could mean an improper tamp, or to coarsly ground beans. I would try to dial back your grind, and start with that. I hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions! We’re all in this together, and don’t give up! It will be worth it once the learning curves get a little less crazy Thanx for watching!
@@hazelcreekheritagefarm8092 Hi thnx for the feedback and input, i appreciate it and it does indeed help. The grind is as fine as it gets (assuming that the bur setting of 1 is indeed the minimum). I took a scale and measured my tamp presure and it's between 15 and 25 kilo's. Today I did get a better extraction time of 21 seconds. The taste is great though. The puck is reletively dry now, I do expect I have some channeling going on though. since often a small part of the puck sticks to the filter.
I have honestly never measured out my beans , I just use the hopper and the settings. So I honestly can’t help you with that , but typically a good shot of espresso, your puck should not break off or stick to the bottom, it should come out all in one piece with just a little bump and it should come out.
Dude you are pretty much making a flat white, an expresso is a different type of pour - no milk btw. Nice vid, my wife brought the machine yesterday and it makes a damn fine cup of coffee, regardless of style. Just about to hit my second cup this morning, and like you I'm a flat white dude.
Hey! Sorry I just seen this message. I have never messed with the internal burr setting so it is what ever it was when first purchased thanks for watching!!
Ya if your machine is fairly new it tends to stick on there too tight, but just use a butter knife to pry it off, but I promise you it gets looser over time! Happy espressoing!!
“Kinda a tree there for ya” 🙌🏻😂🌲

Thank you! Literally the best thing I’ve ever bought! Thanx for your comment .. enjoy!
Love the Whisker down mate do you kmow if you can buy them internationally as I live In Australia.
You can by them from anywhere at whiskerdam.com! Thanx for watching!
Nice work! thanks for sharing this!
Super helpful, thank you.
Your very welcome ! Thanx for the kind comment, and thanx for watching!!
@@hazelcreekheritagefarm8092 .. Try using the "Strong" setting instead of normal strength.
Some people don't like this machine cuz of the 54mm portafilter. Is there much difference in taste between a 54mm and the standard 58mm portafilter?
Hey there! I couldn’t honestly tell you that answer Cos I have none er owned a mucking other than this one. What I can tell you though is the espresso that I can make out of this machine is way better than a Starbucks. So that must mean something. I highly recommend this machine!
Just got my Batista espresso! We paid $1200 but my husband and I we love it! I'm using eight a clock coffee bean medium, its amazing!
Nice! Glad to hear!!
Thanks for the video bro 👍 I thought it was Gerard Piquet 😂
Whisker Dam! I know what my husband's getting for Christmas! 😀
Honestly do not know what I’ve done without this. It’s with me allll the time!!!! Ps . Link is in the description!
Great video! I have had the Barista Pro just 3 or 4 days now and am still far from a pro but to use Sumatra beans ..makes a good couple of shots.
Awesome to hear! Your doing better than I was the first few days I got mine.. I struggled hard lol. Thanx flor the comment ! And thanx for watching. Enjoy your espresso to the fullest!
Excellent, can you show us how to use your toaster next!!
@@johnwilliams7999 ha ha my toast is burnt more often then 😂 but no this machine is only a single boiler.
Thanks for the review . Does the coffee come out very hot? Or just warm? Thanks
Hey there it comes out hot, there is a temperature setting in the menu , set it to the highest possible, and make sure the temperature of your mile is hot as well. Thanks for watching, hope this helps!
I need that Whisker Dam. Nice vid.
Omg!!!!! I love your video... I like what you did at the end with you mustache thing...lol

Thanks for watching!
liked just for the Whisker 😂🙏🏼
Enjoyed your video
Thank you very much!
Art indeed. The important part is the taste.
I did as you did and I have to say it's great mate, big thx! Btw I use coffee Blue Tokai Attikan Estate.
Awesome ! I’ll have to see if I can find some of that! Thanx for the advice and thank you so much for watching and commenting 👍👊
Thanx for your comment, I will check that out for sure!
@@hazelcreekheritagefarm8092 Cayuga Lake Dark Roast Sumatran.
K thanx!
@ackbar1138 I checked it out and it doesn’t look like they ship
@@hazelcreekheritagefarm8092 I do!! I actually thought that they did
Did they update this model with a retractable cord? Because mine from 3yrs ago did not have one.
Nope not the one I have anyways! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the review! I think I’m going to buy it. Do you use cleaning pucks or clean it any other way?
All I ever have used it the breville brand descaler, and the breville cleaning discs. I get it off Amazon.. the machine will tell you when it needs to be descaled or flushed ! Thanx for your comment. You will be very pleased with this machine!!
Nice review and good looking cup of coffee. Two question. Hope much milk did you start with? OZ out line on the cup? Next where can I purchase the mustache saver?
Hey thanx for the comment! I fill the milk up to the top line of the pitcher, and for the whisker dam, go to www.whiskerdam.com
For the frothing, use less milk, a frothing thermometer, and keep the wand against the wall and just under the surface. I hold the pitcher all the way to the end.
Ok awesome! Thanx for the advice I will try that! Thanx for watching!
Thanks for the upload. I’ve been considering to get this machine. Btw real coffee drinkers don’t go to Starbucks.
Hey! Thanx for the comment, glad I was able to convince you to get the right espresso machine! You will not be disappointed!
putting the whisker down was the manliest thing I've seen this week
Thank you!! I honestly never go anywhere wothout that thing in my pocket!
The Coffee I'm using is:
- A freshly opend bag of L'OR ONYX
- Intensity 12 (Intense & Powerfull)
- I think it's to dark and oily for this machine
The tools I'm using aren't ok I think:
- Kitchen scale which measures to the gram (will need to buy a different one)
- The standard Sage Tamper and my finger (I'll buy a palm equalizer and tamper)
- The standard Sage Portafilter with the single wall dual shot filter (I'm considering buying a open bottom portafilter so i can see if there is channeling)
I eventually got a fairly good shot out of it. The taste is awesome, the crema is ok! However the settings I'm using concern me a bit.
- The main bur is set to 1 (which is the finest it can be as far as I know)
- The grind coarseness of the grinder is set to 1 (which is the finest it can be as far as I know)
- Weight:
--> I started with 18 gram weighed per shot then grind
--> I went down to 16 gram weighed per shot then grind
--> I then configured the grinder time to 15.5 seconds which results in 16/17 grams of coffee grounds
--> While grinding I wiggle the portafilter around to make the grounds fill evenly and make sure no coffee spills
- I measured my presure with the Tamper on a people and I'm between 15 and 20 kg
--> The pressure is exerted as evenly as possible
--> Before tempering I move the coffee around so it's even, then I move the coffee that is over the edge to the middle from four sides with my finger, then tap the portafilter on a rubberpad on the counter
--> The result consistently presses the Tamper into the filter, using my fingers around the Tamper brim, my fingers are on the fiter filter side when done with the Tamper. The Tamper is at a height where the champfer of the thickest part starts, as seen from the side of the filter.
- For the shot:
--> I set the heat 1 setting higher
--> I preheat the porta filter
--> I do a shot without the portafilter to make sure it's clean
--> I set the portafilter and turn it in, in the beginning needing quite a bit of force.
My concerns:
- The grind settings:
--> I'm at the absolute thinest grind the machine can do, this concerns me.
--> I will be getting lighter blends, which will probably need a coarser grind, but am a bit concerned about reaching the limit on the first day/calibration
- The storage basket for the filters.
It will be worth it once the learning curves get a little less crazy
Thanx for watching!
Just to let you know, I am uploading a new video right now so stay tuned!

my portsfilter is too tight
Ya if your machine is fairly new it tends to stick on there too tight, but just use a butter knife to pry it off, but I promise you it gets looser over time! Happy espressoing!!
@@hazelcreekheritagefarm8092 Great, no to tight now. what temperature you get? I get 65 celsius vs 73 with Barista Express.
