    Thanks for making this video, got my Barista Pro today. It saved me a lot of time dialling in to somewhat near a good espresso.
    Just waiting for a better tamp to arrive it's a spring-loaded to 30lbs.
    Previously bought a Phillips latte go 5500 it was rubbish and returned it the same day.
    The Barista is a much better choice for a machine because all variations of coffee start with a single or double espresso, also having the freedom to buy other branded portafilters or accessories for the machine is great.

  • @NoZenith

    I use the razor to make sure the volume in the basket is right every time i open a new bag, then I weigh it and commit that to memory and put the razor back up till I open a new bag. I just weigh my beans after that (pre-ground, as I single dose with a Niche Zero) and it's pretty simple. I have had variances of nearly a gram for the same ground volume in the basket between different beans
    PANTHER 1985 espresso is consistently 18.5g in my 54mm stock Bambino Plus over more than a dozen bags. This stuff is good, neutral, traditional style flavor learning toward medium or at least less dark.

    having a hell of a time dialing this in with my beans on my new Breville Barista Pro. Got fresh dark roast from a local roaster, and was hoping the settings you used here would work for me. Not even close. at 12sec, 4 on the dial and 3 on the inner burr I was getting 5g of coffee out. Had to move it up to 15 on the dial to hit 16g at 12sec(maybe that's not the way to dial it in?). My shots are getting around 24g at 28-30sec, but are pretty bitter, of course I'm new to espresso so maybe the taste is right?

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  3 місяці тому +1

      It's what most people think, so that the burrs don't have to adjust with the load of coffee particles between them. Better to have them running, so the burrs don't have that static load is the theory. Cheers!

Talked to a local Breville Rep that spends most of his time at a Williams Sonoma shp. Sage / Breville seem to really listen to their customers, so machines, even the same model, are upgraded over time to accomodate the feedback from customers. For an "appliance" company, that is pretty damn good. They probably make the best espresso machines of any of the "appliance" manufacturers.

    It looks like the models sold in the US don't come with the updated Baratza 6 point grinder. I can't seem to find that grinder separately either from Breville or Amazon. 🙄

    • @oldchev2850
      @oldchev2850 6 місяців тому

      In Australia at least, there are still shops that have stock of the old 5 point burrs. I rang Breville Australia and they said all new pros now come with the Baratza six flute burrs. I had a Breville barista pro on order from a shop and picked it up yesterday and it did in fact have the Baratza burrs. It's really easy to check in the shop by removing the lid and undoing the handle in the middle of the bowl 90 deg and you can easy see the conical burr in the hole and see if it's 5 or 6. I checked several machines on the stand in one shop and half had 5 and half had 6, so some shops will still have old stock. Note, I think only the pro model and above now have the six but I may be wrong on that.

I grinded at a burr setting of 3 and fineness setting (or whatever that dial is called) of 6 and I only got 6 grams in 10 seconds of grinding. So curious why the difference? I also cleaned everything out before hand to clear out old grindings. One problem I have had often is when I try to go finer on the grind, the espresso barely drips out and doesn't extract at a normal rate, ends up wasting the grinds. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?

    Will the temperature of the drinks be hot enough since this machine turns off so quickly compared to other Breville machines? That is the only concern I have about this machine. The auto shut-off should be after half an hour, like the Infuser and Express. I get that it has new technology to get up to temperature a lot quicker, but it seems like the drinks cool down pretty fast. Or did you not just preheat the other cup?

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  9 місяців тому

      In my experience, this and all other Brevilles turn off after about 20 minutes, even the Dual Boiler. But it doesn't really matter with this one, since it doesn't warm up the brew group anyway. All the machines with the ThermoJet technology have the disadvantage, that they do not warm the brew group, and therefore the portafilter: Bambino Plus, Barista Pro, Touch, Touch Impress.

      t could also be that your grinder is not ideal for espresso.

    Tried the single basket just once: Ground, tamped, levelled; then when I tipped it sideways over the bin to get rid of the razored-off excess the whole damned puck slid out. Doubles ever since.

      Yeah there are different variants...
      There is the Barista Express, the Barista Pro (which is in this video), the Barista Express Impress, the Barista Touch and the Barista Touch Impress.
      Only the Pro model seems to come with the dosing funnel.
      Only the Pro and Touch models seem to come with a Baratza grinder.
      Not 100% sure on everything but that is my observation from reviews of this confusing amount of versions.

    Why was there such a big difference in steam time between the first and second cup, from 51 seconds to just 30 seconds,less milk?
    I will probably "downgrade" from a nice e61 machine to this one, I'm tired of long warm-up times.

    • @TomsCoffeeCorner
      @TomsCoffeeCorner  7 місяців тому +1

      It gets faster at getting up to steam temperature, and also steaming, once you have already steamed once or twice. So I guess that the thermo block retains some heat.
      I agree with you on the E 61 by the way. I don’t have patience for those to warm up either.

Tom, you are mostly well-spoken, relevant to subject matter, humourous at the rightest moments and your Instruction Video a clear mile more fruitful than that of Sage.
