*_6:14_* *_Was able to pick one of these up about ten years ago for $300. It’s still my favorite sounding and playing baritone to this day. So glad I have one. I will never sell it._*
I loved mine while I had it too, but preferred the SE 277 once that came out, pretty much almost exclusively for Chevelle cover stuff. But then the digital drop tuning options from Fractal and Neural got good enough (for non recording needs) that I dropped the drop tuning arsenal to make life easier. One thing that never left me though was the addiction to the string tension and I now use a PRS Tremonti Baritone Hybrid (25.5" scale) in standard and Drop D tuning, but the brightness and dryness of an Aristides still does a bit better when using digital drop tuning options.
@@chemavivarYes, but these amp packs are not included. In the normal ToneX software, you can test the entire pack for 30 minutes though. I do not know if ToneX free allows for the same, but I guess so.
Jon, how do you approach gain staging the DI input signal for plugins? Nowadays there's some discussion going on that you should have always input gain on your interface at zero and add or lower the gain in the plugin itself to sound as it was intended to. I don't know if your setup /gear makes you even think any of that, but I'd love hear from you on the DI input level into the plugin /amp sim. Your tones are so consistent no matter what you use. Maybe some vid on that subject? Cheers!
When we were discussing this in the ToneX FB group a while back, Jon showed little interest in this subject overall and stated he used his Helix board as the core unit for ReAmping. He stated he mainly dialed in his gain via ears. Works for him it seems. For me, I rather like dBu numbers as reference.
@@PippPriss Thanks! I tried to use the "zero gain" method but found my DI to be very undegained. So I've ended up doing what I always did - used my ears for gain staging. The only lesson I took from it, is that I measured what input signal I have (that is working for me) to stay consistent in the future, in case I messed it up by accident.
Yeah, I don't over think it and just use my ears. If it sounds undergained, raise the input gain. With tonex I often do that with values like +6 to +8 db's
Wow! These are the first Tonex captures I've heard that I totally love! Kind of proof that the technology is there but the quality of the captures have been weak. By the way, nailed that Tool tone in the first demo!
I had this discussion with a bunch of session musicians... all these companies EQ their plugins so they sound good on THEIR hardware but sound like absolute ass on everyone elses. It makes them all useless. They can easily make good stuff that everyone could use - but they just don't. STL Tones is a huge exception to this. But this is another example of its not hard to make captures that are EQ'd CORRECTLY that sound good on people's systems.
@@Classic_DionysuS This is simply not true. We and other companies test with multiple audio interfaces and setups (in fact we might test more on other companies' interfaces than we do our own or at least just as much). People were using TONEX software on many different audio interfaces long before the TONEX Pedal even existed.
It seems very impressive! But 99 dollars converted in real for us here in Brazil it's very expensive. I'm not complaining about the value, just pointing that it's not something to everyone here. Saying that, your playing it's perfect and the profiles seems to be really great. Cheers from ZS/SP - Brazil.
@@DanielBobke because those controls are generic post capture controls common to all models on ToneX. The sliders were already set as part of the capture.
@@rossbalch Makes sense. I like the modeler approach better than just the capture. I think that is NDSPs and other modelers advantage - although it may cost a bit more.
Amazing work! Also noticed you are getting better and better with storytelling which makes this videos more intense to watch. On another note, just on sound and feel of the amps, would you take the tonex over the Ampero? I’m about to purchase one or the other and would appreciate your input. Thanks!
very cool riffing, but don't u think the tonex high gain models all have a either a bit of "mushy" attack or some "hairy" fizz ? i always felt the real amps had a tight and fast attack compared to the tonex captures?
Hey Jon, what’s the story on your Mushok baritone?? I don’t see where it was ever offered in black like yours, and yours has what looks like a Hipshot Ibby bridge? I’ve never really cared for that model, but yours is really cool!
I'm betting Neural DSP is going to suck compared to these. Granted the newer models have less of that harsh artificial upper mid-range but these on the other hand will sound exactly like the amps.
Honestly man I want to jam! I went through all of the looking for tone thing in the last year or two. I think we need to jam not be constantly searching through hundreds of presets trying to see if something will sound better. Thats my only thing with this stuff. I was going to buy Tonex but I backed out for that very reason. Honestly my real amp is hard to beat so I really don't know why I do it other than how it sounds with my real amp and a sim combined.
I'm into modeleramps since the nineties. I had certain thoughts then.... till still today...while scrolling quickly tru the different amps, as we see and listen at he end of this video. ...modelersounds and captures, are nothing more than different EQ settings.... With one amp, a decent equaliser and the right eq setting, you can mimic any or each amp.
Where's the A/B of these compared to the real things like you did on the TMP EVH? Because I BET you you'll get the same results. Because, that's what modelers do....
Too expensive , and the amps sound a bit weedy imo, amalgam and tone rats packs sound better, maybe they set the input gain at a different level than 0... Not sure
Jon hope you’re good man! I saw where Ownhammer just added a scumback to the rock box I’ve got to grab that I’ve always wanted to try those speakers. The website is not working. Do you know anything about this?
@@SonicDriveStudio ok good to know. Thanks for the reply. I’m just dying to get that new rock box pack! These IRs are just so incredible! It’s crazy how they make the York audio stuff sound and feel fake in comparison. I don’t know how York or anyone else is gonna compete with these!
Woohoo official Mesa Boogie amps in Tonex! Thoughts?
If you can't beat them. join them.
Expensive.
Very Expensive and You cannot buy anything used from IK. They robbed Me of 80 dollars two months ago
