Hey ed great information. I think in your video before you mentioned being in the Amazon. Incredible how the system works there. Fascinating that when the water becomes acidic the nitrification process dies but instead of ammonia you get ammonium much less toxic than ammonia. It’s a mistake people make in the aquarium hobby where they can add harder tap water to a tank that’s really soft and acidic and suddenly all that ammonium gets converted back into ammonia and then kills the fish especially as the beneficial bacteria dies off in the filters. I kept discus along with many other Amazonian fish for years. Absolutely loved keeping them. Hoping to set a tank up again soon.
You never got chance to reply to my second question on the last video. What do you use to determine what sandstone is hard enough to use in a pond water feature? Thanks Ed
