If you have spare servos, a cheap esc and receiver laying around, this 'cheap' 1/18 scale rockcrawler can really shine. Even if you have to purchase everything, it is worth the fun of being able to build a competent crawler for dirt cheap. I've upgraded mine with a cheap HobbyKing brushed esc, a compact 2s 1200 mah lipo meant for electric planes, a proper standard servo and a specktrum receiver. This thing now has some serious crawling power and it took me maybe an hour to do the upgrades. Disassembly is SUPER easy, everything is screwed together from the factory, so you shouldn't have to cut or destroy anything on the body or chassis. IMPORTANT: If you are using a 7.4v battery you MUST set the throttle trim (max throttle) to 50% or you will most likely burn out the motors. They MAY be able to handle 7.4v for a short time, but I believe they will probably overheat and prematurely wear out. I am not sure why this guy is 'reinventing the wheel' with the servo linkage. I used a similar full sized servo and just used the factory linkage (I did have to slightly drill the servo horn to fit my standard servo) I'm probably going to post a video of what I've done. What I like about my set up is the compact lipo battery fits almost perfectly into the stock compartment (No battery loosely mounted up top like it is in this video) The truck has variable throttle/steering and some SERIOUS power...it performs on par with my friends $110 Axial Deadbolt and cost me $27

I got the same one. Didnt actually increases performance like you did. I put a flat bracket shaped to lock the front suspension. Shaped a metal brush gaurd for the front and matched the 2 of set skrews with the steering adjuster cut out. I also moved both shocks to the back in new locations. It's all new to me so super fun. Nice video! Would be cool to get a big wheel and increase the size till you get a good top speed.
That esc can work at 1S lipo so it might be worth trying it with a 1S for lower crawling speed and lighter weight. It might then be possible to fit it in the battery compartment for lower CoG. Also you can buy springs on ebay with a thinner wire. might be nice to setup the springs a bit softer.

I just got a devastator 1/24th we broke a driveshaft so ordered some of the metal ones. going to see if the URUAV ones fit as they seem to have better pins that screw all the way through, the HBX ones only have a small grub screw that tightens to one side of the transfer case drive flange.

My truck is non modified and stock parts greased up, i burnt the rear motor smoking trying to get her out of the mud, Simply took apart the motor inside and replaced it with a new coil set
@@JS-rn4bs yes i just want to upgrade this car with parts that will make this more durable.. i have lots of hobbygrade rc and i also have a nitro buggy but some of my friends cannot afford the hobby so we are racing the crawler with them..i know the crawler is slow but once you try racing with same RC..the fun is the same🙂 others would say why the heck you would race the toy when it is a crawler..yep we know but thats the only toy possible for there budget and at the end of the day, we still have fun and thats what is important🙂
@@JS-rn4bs we notice that as months go by racing this RC..the plastic hubs deteriorate and the tire are sagging.. that why i will be glad if someone can upgrade this with bearing so we will be forever grateful..🙂
If you took 2x front axles so one was on the back and have 2 steering servos wired in parallel or setup a mix on the transmitter for some sort of rear steer. What do you think? Possible? Worth it?
Every look cool, but i try to included speed levels too, like slow climbing like expensive crawler has. Normally one speed that come with the box, if this vdo or it have but not in vdo can you show as well please, that will be appreciated and also i read other comment about brushed motor, can you sent the link as well too please, i try to upgraded only once and last long. Nice upgrade. I want to know that isn't that power effect to the wheels gears? I think the plastic gears will burn or distroy fast because of high torque and speed.

@@malavika.s1076 yes if ur on a budget get the tx4 transmitter it comes with reciever just read the manual where to connect the servo and esc to the receiver tx4 has a RANGE of 200-300 meter if i remeber correctly

just replace the brush of the two original motors... because if you change it with two motors not suitable for RC like motors from tamiya 4Wd or other motors from a non RC vehicle.. your rc will just run in flat surface but it has no torque so it cannot perform crawling very well so just used the original motors just replace the brush part because the winding of that motor is built for torque..i hope this helps..
But for making it brushless we have to cut the gearboxes and we have to buy metal gears to avoid melting of gears we have to use another two escs to make it brushless

Yeah. 1s lipo would do great. 2s is a bit too much for those 180 motors. It wears the brush out quickly.

At 4:24 you plugged in the wires to a transmitter. is there any order for plugging in or could we plug it anywhere in the transmitter?
That's the receiver. You can plug it to any channel you want

10 to 20 min on 1000mah. I don't think that will explode. Bigger mah will not increase voltage. Use any mah 2s lipo
