Such an underrated classic. I still have soundtrack on vinyl that I bought from musicland in 1987. Thanks for putting this video together! Musta been a lot of work! Amazing job!
To Live and Die in LA was one of my favorite 80's movies to watch on rented VHR tapes. Growing up on the east coast this was what I thought LA looked like. I now live in Southern California and have been to every location shot in the movie from Palmdale to San Luis Obipo to San Pedro and of course LA.
I also had a VHS copy that a father's friend gave to me. I watched it until I wore it out. RIP Darlanne Fluegel. I enjoyed her performance as William Peterson's informant girlfriend.
Lucky you !! I am Belgian.. hope to visit California in the near future but by the looks of it.. especially LA, .. it seems really dangerous. Since you live there, can i ask if you think it's safe to visit as a tourist at the moment ?
Holy smokes, the car chase scene is about the best I've witnessed. Easy to see how Jim Cameron was influenced by these locations for T2:Judgement Day. Thanks for documenting these locals (is it "locals" or spelled exotically like "localles"?). Peace and love to the Crucial household!
Dutch cameraman Robbie Muller shot this movie, really great stuff, fantastic movie, saw it in the theatre in january 2020, Muller’s wife was there and told some interesting stories about the shoot. She even had the crew jacket with her! Great work on this video and all your location items, LOVE IT👍
The best film locations content on UA-cam and pretty much the whole internet. Thanks again for your work. Can't wait for this channel to get bigger so you can maybe travel and do locations in other states and countries. Would love to see you do: Breakin 2 electric bogaloo, Back to the future, Cool as Ice, Risky Business, Home Alone... man I can go on and on. Thanks again!
Reshoots has done the best Back to the Future and Electric Boogaloo location vids I've seen so far. : P ua-cam.com/channels/zpZMC0HZw5p6hQxRZaaCiQ.html
Very cool. You covered a lot of locations. One of my favorite 80's movies. I just watched it again 2 days ago and so you doing the locations is an amazing coincidence. I remember the first time watching the movie and i was shocked when Master's bodyguard shot Jimmy dead with a shotgun blast to the chest. I wasn't expecting that. That was so brutal! It kinda set the tone for the movie. Great upload. Thanks!!
It's also weird to see a cop going all psycho to avenge the demise of his partner. That also was part of the 'tone' of the movie. It gave me the creeps how Chance behaved... like exploiting his informant in many ways...causing massive traffic jams and horrible accidents, kidnapping a federal plain clothes officer to get his flash cash for the deal with Masters. I mean how dirty can a cop be ? They could've named the movie Bad Lieutenant 2.... 😂
Wanna convey a belated THANK YOU for going into great detail(s) in showing the locations and/or buildings that are now vs/ what they looked like during the movie. And insofar as movies go, "To Live And Die In LA" is not only one of my all-time favorite flicks, but it's also "criminally" underrated. IMO, the car chase scene is still the best in movie history.
Awesome! Thanks for the upload! I was a young Marine during the filming of this movie! I was stationed at Camp Pendleton and I remember the Airport being sectioned off for the filming. I was going to Lexington Kentucky on leave. So cool.
Thanks for paying respect to this much beloved movie of mine! Several major interests and hobbies are inspired by this movie from trains and the darker side of Downtown and the LA River onward.
Great movie! True story my buddies cousin works for Willem directly for a long time now ive never met him but he called once I happened to be at a cookout with them and I could hear him on speaker it was awsome!!!!! He's one of my favorite actors
Wonderful episode ! More over bc so much is still there. I just love this movie. I saw it for the first time in the 2000s but it brings me back to that 80s feel more than some of the movies which i had seen back in the 80s. Love the soundtrack... it's on my playlists now. It is just one of those very underestimated 80s gems.
You must be a la native...new to your channel...i saw this when it came out in 85 i was 12.. i just so happen to have this movie in my phone lol. Obviously 1 of my all time favourite movies...thank you for bringing us this work, i hope your able to do more. Damian
La Bamba and this video just placed 80s Life above Grimm, Daze, Woo, Scott and History Hunters. We won't talk about Attia. Fabulous researched materials and infos and damn entertaining actually. Well done Now I'm excited to see your next post
I actually think better than those mentioned and I'm a fan of all of them. This was well researched, well filmed, well edited and well narrated. Loved the matching angles too.
I saw this film with my father the day it opened at the Mann National in Westwood. I loved it. This film also surprised me in the way events unfolded. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen this Friedkin masterpiece from 1985. It's a great L.A. movie and a time capsule of the city in the mid-eighties. It's based on a novel by Gerald Petievich, a former Secret Service/Treasury agent who has written several good novels including The Sentinel made into a film with Michael Douglas and Money Men adapted as Boiling Point with Wesley Snipes and Dennis Hopper. But his best book is Earth Angels about an undercover cop from the LAPD's controversial CRASH unit taking down an East L.A. Gang. Absolutely badass novel. Brian DePalma should make it into a movie NOW.
Totally awesome video about my all time favorite movie. Thank you so much for taking the time to put it together. Cheers 🍻 from Montreal Quebec Canada 🇨🇦
Excellent video, Dude. Longtime Pasadena native. Useless trivia: The house that was Max Waxman's office was, around the time of filming, a chiropractor's office/home. The Union 76 gas station at Walnut and Los Robles (pronounced by non-Hispanic Pasadenans as "Las Robels" for some reason) went through a number of changes to become an Arco station which currently sells cash only gas (debit cards OK) at the lowest price in Pasadena. The guy who played Max Waxman, Christopher Allport, died, along with two others, in a southern California ski resort avalanche in 2008.
Just got my DVD of To Live And Die In L.A. from eBay and about to enjoy it on Themis Saturday night. Decided I’d have to revisit it again after watching you location’s video
I lived at 5050 woodman and hung out at my neighbors house apt 5 many times. Yup the interior was filmed inside. The tenent knows about it too and has a copy of the movie😊
Another GREAT video!!!.....So just because of this movie I had to do the Vincent Thomas Bridge when I visited L.A. last Year, I crossed over it twice with the top down, What a Rush!!!
I watched this movie just to watch your video; it was an amazing movie with an awesome soundtrack, and a unexpected story, loved it; and your video makes it better :)
I just came across this and it brought back a FLOOD of memories. I was in the navy and my ship was in the former Long Beach Naval Shipyard!. My GF at the time was an "aspiring actress" who had a bit part in the movie. I watched the filming of Chance as "he" ( or the stunt ) drove off the San Pedro bridge. WHAT A SCENE! the movie is one of my favorites and the soundtrack I still pay to this date!
Good job on this. My main takeaway is LA now has a lot more fences and walls. Kinda sad actually. The movie gave the feeling of a lot more open space and trees.
I never get tired of watching this movie it's brilliant! Really enjoy your "then and now" videos they're very well done and witty too. Any chance of a then and now video for Miracle Mile one of my all time favourite films!
Amazing job, well done! I'ill use this footage if someday I visit L.A. and I will do all this locations tour. Thanks! This film haunt me since many years
Absolutely brilliant, I haven't seen this film for many many yrs, going to have to give it a re watch now I've seen this. I know I've requested a few films but I'm gonna add another to the list . How about Beverly hills cop 2 as it's my fav out of the 3 films. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks for all the hard work that goes into making these videos
Excellent video! Note: if anyone finds themselves out film spotting and goes to where the gym is on Beverly blvd in LA, Swingers Coffee Shop across the street has excellent food.
The location a 11231 S. Main was also used in the movie colors. The location of the seen where the two guys were talking with some guys playing basketball in the background was a few blocks north of there. At 107th street elementary school. Your videos bring back a lot of memories. Thank you 😊
Thanks for taking the time & effort to find these movie locations. I can't remember who used it first but I find the church stakeout in the rain looks very similar a scene in miami vice. Maybe a superfan can say what episode it is.
In 1990 I went to Shipwreck Joey's Cabaret to photograph the building and the bridge. I uploaded them to my photo site. So glad I went. BTW, it was the same building used in Fight Club. Too bad you didn't find Masters house. That looked pretty posh. Thanks for the upload.
Thank you so much for posting this...alot of work on your end and with google maps it's all easy. I never knew that the warehouse he was printing is in Palmdale, I always thought it was way out in the Mojave.
Great Stuff. As Always. WE LOVE IT.... WE LOVE L.A. ha. Remember the Classic...Video. Randy Newman. You are Knocking it Out of The Park.. Great Job Again..
How's it going Kurt another great video terminal Island is that the same freeway where they did the truck heist in the first fast and furious and Terminator judgement day or was it filmed in another part of LA. Alright you and your family stay safe and take care.
Thank you very much for this. One of my top five as well! WHY DID YOU LEAVE OUT THE END CREDITS SCENE? I understand that you are prohibited from using Wang Chung’s music. The music you had at the end was fine!
Great soundtrack even greater movie!!!! One of my top five favs of all time, William Petersen was awesome along with William Defoe…..INCREDIBLE MOVIE
Yeah, agree. A top 5 all timer for me too!
Also future Quantum Leap actor Dean Stockwell, also awesome as the shady lawyer.
Such an underrated classic. I still have soundtrack on vinyl that I bought from musicland in 1987. Thanks for putting this video together! Musta been a lot of work! Amazing job!
OMG! One of my favourite movies ever! Wang Chung.... Great soundtrack! Thank you!
My pleasure. Thank you

@@alainvosselman9960 LA is not really any more dangerous than any other big city. Just be smart.
Holy smokes, the car chase scene is about the best I've witnessed. Easy to see how Jim Cameron was influenced by these locations for T2:Judgement Day.

Sadly, he passed away in 2018.
One of my all-time favourite movies. Great music. Powerful stuff.
Highly underrated 80s film. Great soundtrack and gritty.

Great job! I saw this when it came out in 1985 when I was 12. It still remains one of my all-time favorites.
Thank you for watching
The Music by Vector Hold was Excllent and the Video an Outstanding peice of work
Very cool. You covered a lot of locations. One of my favorite 80's movies. I just watched it again 2 days ago and so you doing the locations is an amazing coincidence. Awesome. Yeah the ending is a huge shock. Thank for for watching
It's also weird to see a cop going all psycho to avenge the demise of his partner. That also was part of the 'tone' of the movie. I’ve never seen this movie and this is still fire!!!!!
Going to watch the movie tonight FYI
Thank you. You'll enjoy it
Good luck, I couldn’t finding it streaming anywhere online 🤷
See it at all costs!! From the most die hard fan.
Well, that was a labor of love...thanks for doing a great job of putting that together!
Wanna convey a belated THANK YOU for going into great detail(s) in showing the locations and/or buildings that are now vs/ what they looked like during the movie. Thank you very much, I appreciate it. And I agree about it being underrated
I hear they had to close the Long Beach (710) Freeway for 6 consecutive weekends to get the shot! Agree. It's the best Chase Scene ever!
This was a fantastic movie that had a big impact on me in the 80s. thank you for posting this video.
My pleasure. Thank you
The movie was lost to time for a while , a bit more iconic these days, truly a hidden jem, excellent job with the locations...great movie!
Awesome! Thanks for the upload! I was a young Marine during the filming of this movie! I was stationed at Camp Pendleton and I remember the Airport being sectioned off for the filming. I was going to Lexington Kentucky on leave. So cool.

Great video! That film is one of my '80s favorites. The car chase scene is epic.
Thank you
Anything with William Defoe is fantastic! Thanks!😀
I hate to see that lovely bridge gone now! It was amazing to see it
Great Vid again as always. My father and I watched this together as a rental in the late 80’s. Dare I say, it still stands the test of time.
Thank you
Great movie! True story my buddies cousin works for Willem directly for a long time now ive never met him but he called once I happened to be at a cookout with them and I could hear him on speaker it was awsome!!!!! He's one of my favorite actors

Thank you! That's a good question. I'm not sure. But I'm gonna find out
nicely done, great movie!
Thank you very much
Cool times, back then L.A was great. To live and die in L.A had one of the best car chases filmed.
I was like 10 years old when they filmed that movie close to my house on 20th and Mesa in San Pedro in 84
Awesome! I would have loved to have grew up out there at that time. Only got to visit there twice around the time when the film was released.
Thank you very much for this. One of my top five as well! WHY DID YOU LEAVE OUT THE END CREDITS SCENE? I understand that you are prohibited from using Wang Chung’s music. The music you had at the end was fine!
Extremely well done.
Thanks for filming this, it was so interesting. You got yourself a new sub
Awesome! Welcome!! Thank you so much
Well done! Keep them coming.
Thank you
The incomparable Mr William Friedkin
Great job great movie location work
