I love heading Jay talk cars, he’s humble and asks when he doesn’t know stuff, then says stuff and you can’t tell the person is like oh yeah he’s a car guy and knows his stuff. Jay will always be a cool dude.
Yeah I love that too. Not afraid to ask questions and doesn't pretend to know it all. Traits I find less and less in the car world these days! Wish I could build mine with the 1000 hp. I'll stick with my 66 and the 4.6l engine for now.
I like how he simply says “thanks” in a modest when Jay compliments his work. He is truly appreciative of his compliment.
And, on a non related subject, i just love the simplicity of Jay's wardrobe. :)

No doubt; my favorite part is how he uses his car knowledge and interviewing skills to create this series. His ability to work with nervous people (Yes, I would be one of them) and produce this stuff is awesome.

I'm not a car person by any stretch, graphic designer by education so I like designs. I can watch Leno or Doug DeMuro talk about any car and I can get it, they're great at what they do.
He grew up around them . His dad was dealer I believe.
I was surprised he didn't know what PPG was.
The engineering on this is incredible, the boost tube running down top of the fender is a cool touch.
I admit I am a novice & cannot begin to appreciate the craftsmanship. All I can say is that this is a freaking amazing. Can't take my eyes off of it.
The Mustang was very impressive. I grew up in the back seat of a 64 and a half Mustang convertible, red with a white top. My favorite memory was my Dad asking me to zip down the rear window so he could put the top down. It made me feel import to do the job. Will never forget that. THANKS DAD.

@Wes 76 no guarantee it would handle better..... if you have the weight balanced properly a 20,000 lb vehicle can handle good. My dad's 82' chevy stepside is slick, he can take an almost 90 degree corner at 50 mph without even squeaking a tire.
At least if you hit a tree the tree would be the one who died. Ish.

@@nicomas2471 tire to weight ratio. when you build small cars you have tire size limitations. when you have gotten the biggest tires possible, the only way to get more traction is to reduce weight.

It’s the second most impressive mustang build for me behind Ken Block’s 1400 HP Hoonicorn Mustang.
Chip Fooses Elanor is the greatest custom.
It's definitely more of a generational subjective thing, my ignorant young-ish self likes Ken Block's Hoonicorn (recently separated though)

My Grandfather was a Ford dealer when I was growing up. I had a cousin come back from Vietnam and his mother had bought him a "66 black fastback Mustang as a coming home gift. I love those old Mustangs.
A genuine piece of art. A modern version of what was a modern design in the 60s. This car looks powerful. This is truly a speedster's dream. Beautifully tasteful workmanship and design. Should be at Gilmore car museum one day

Not everyone's tastes in styling and function are the same. Those whose notion of the ideal car are considerably different can easily "have a problem" with this car. I appreciate the workmanship, but I dislike the interior. I have a problem with the interior. I can appreciate skill, craftsmanship, as well as money and time spent and still dislike the result.
PrivateSungam They had lights in it, and that's where the glare is coming from... With that being said, the red needs to be paired with another color like black, imo. I would'v diamond stitched the door cards, and perforated, or tuck and rolled the seat cushions as well. Anything to add a bit more detail. It's pretty much the same for the dash ... It's not "perfect" for my taste but I still like it better than just about any other Mustang, I'v ever seen. I like the body colors but that's not what I'm focusing on. It's the build quality. The quality of the steel brings up other concerns for me. Vanadium steel, would be my choice as far as steel goes. Depending on how easy it is to repair, carbon fiber might'v been the better choice though... I'm actually torn on this- Lighter weight vs durability, and easier/cheaper repair costs, if you wreck it.

Beas1 Watson I know they were pieces of crap, but I always loved the looks of the Mustang II King Cobras, with the body kit. Other than that it's 65, through 69, preferably in a fastback. I also like the fox bodies.

Wow! That is one of the cleanest engine compartments I’ve seen! Whether you like this car or not, one must appreciate the craftsmanship that went into it.
Jay is the perfect host for a car show that brings in builders to talk about their creations. He knows cars, is funny and respectful and my young son can watch it with me and I don't worry about the language.

Oh you can say what you want but it's definitley a ford. Body is ford and so is the engine. That's more than 50% of the car. If anyone you asked "what make is that?" they will ALL say Ford.

Kristofer Pribble dude you're dumb it's fucking pouring out, and Jay can't just keep the car and "wait a few days", it's an extremely expensive, custom car that somebody else owns and was already generous enough to let Jay review. Also we've all seen Jay Leno's driving (see the Dodge power wagon video) I wouldn't want him swerving across lanes on the highway in my beautiful mustang.
This is what I call a hypercar. So extreme! Demented concept, amazing execution, exceptional fabrication and workmanship. Not for me, but still, as Jay says... "it's something" LOL!
I would gladly skip all the exotics for something custom built like this.

The way that car came out, the level of pride and dedication in the craftsman really shows. The builder really flexed his skill of fabrication here. That fact that he made out of steel is not because he didn't care about weight. I was because he was showing he an his teams abilities of fabrication. It's a statement piece, a point of pride, and an advertisement for his company and thier workmanship. If I had money I would definitely ask him to build me something.
I agree. Too many people make molds of carbon fiber these days. The craftsmanship to do this level with steel is absolutely amazing.

Wow that's an amazing work ! It's functional and good looking in the same time, it's clean and maintainable. There is a reason for every small detail. Putting all that together was a tremendous work. Very impressive !
Just read a bunch of the comments. I'm an old guy, and a simple hotrodder. This car is beautifully designed and the exacution is beyond reproach. A true hotrodder takes the best parts available, makes some of his own, and reengineers his ride. So what if it has corvette control arms. They could have made their own; but well designed and manufactured arms that fit the design were available off the shelf. Don't you think enough hours were spent building this car? Don't forget, this car was built for a particular person, not you. So you don't like the "all red interior", that's possibly the least expensive part of the build, Do you think the car's owner didn't have input on the interior? It's what he wanted and your fortunate just to look at it. The car is one of one. Build yours your way. Fantastic car, fantastic build. Imagination that's tangable. I love this car. I got my first '65 Mustang fastback 50 years ago and still have one. Stock is for museums, hotrods are to drive.

This is a beautiful addiction to have. I love the old become new again. Jay's got a lot of interesting cars inside of and outside of his collection. It's amazing how far automotive technology has come. What's even more amazing is attaining 1000 HP in a production vehicle.
The quality of that build is mind boggling. That is the prettiest engine bay I've ever seen.

This car is guaranteed in every 1990-2000s kids top ten list. It's a one-off but I think everyone has this car as their mental image of what the ultimate mustang would look like.

Nah, just kidding, I don’t know what your friend had under the hood or exactly what kind of car it was. The 302 is a respectable engine. Especially in a light car like a Fox Body Mustang.
If you had a 1980 Mustang with a 302 though it must’ve been a transplant because in 1980 the 302 wasn’t available. It was in 1979 but for 1980 and 81 they de-bored it to 255 and put some crappy heads on it because of the gas crunch and it produced a pathetic 119 horsepower. It was the slowest V8 Mustang ever. If you didn’t buy it new though it’s quite possible that the previous owner put a 302 in it and probably put some other go fast goodies on it too. Hot rodders loved those Fox Body Mustangs.

Just saw this car in Orange County a few days ago at a big car meet. Definitely a beauty! And that Red interior is insanely bright in person in the sun! Blinding almost haha.
