George Harrison released an album called 'Wonder Wall Music'. Which was the sound track to a 1968 film called 'Wonder Wall'. 'Wonderwall' by Oasis was a HUGE hit in the UK. Noel gallagher wrote Wonderwall about/for his first wife Meg Matthews.:) . Been a subsciber for a while now, possibly a year. Loving the channel:)
No, the song was actually written by Noel about Liam, to describe their complex, difficult but ultimately (at the time) loving relationship as brothers in this band together. He wasn't going to come out and say to the media "yeah i wrote this song about my brother who is the one that kind of holds the fate of our band in his hands. By now he should have realised how to act properly instead of messing around and jeopardising everything we've worked for. Nobody feels the way i do about him: sometimes i hate him but i still love him. There's so many things i want to say to him, but i don't know how because our relationship is volatile and complicated. We've walked a long road together to get here and the bright lights of fame are blinding. He can save this band or he can destroy it." He wasn't going to say that because, you know, he's a tough geezer who isn't supposed to have soppy feelings for his brother. So it sounded better to just say "yeah i wrote it about my wife".
This came out in 1995... Oasis was hugely influenced by The Beatles - they updated their sound for the 90's decade. The Beatles came from Liverpool... Oasis formed in Manchester... and just like The Beatles debuted in 1963 w/ a huge record 'Please please me'... Oasis made a massive impact in 1994 w/ their debut album 'Definitely Maybe' in the UK and were called the 'second coming of The Beatles'... In early '95, Oasis had just toured the USA (in 1994) and their single 'Live forever' became a hit in America. Noel Gallagher (guitar/ vocals) was the main songwriter in Oasis (his brother Liam Gallagher was the lead singer) and he opted to fire their original drummer (Tony McCarroll) and hired Alan White (drums) for the 2nd Oasis album "(What's the story) Morning Glory"... in 1995 which became their biggest album when 'Wonderwall' became a huge hit single globally... It also yielded major hits like "Champagne Supernova' ... "Don't look back in anger" (sung by Noel Gallagher) ... 'Morning Glory' ... 'Some might say'... 🔥🔥🤘🤘 Unfortunately, drugs and alcohol affected their creativity and disharmony by 1997 and Oasis' third album 'Be here now' ... was another huge hit, but suffered from unusually long songs thanks to the nose candy that Noel was on... Exhausted by the constant drama and chaos, both guitarist Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs and bassist Paul 'Guigsy' McGuigan quit Oasis in 1999. Noel and Liam regrouped Oasis in 2000 w/ the album 'Standing on the shoulder of giants'... and hired Gem Archer (guitar) and Andy Bell (bass)... but Oasis never got back their massive 90's popularity. They still recorded, toured and did well... until Oasis split up in 2009 after Noel and Liam Gallagher had been in 1 fight too many... Both brothers have had solo careers since then. Liam Gallagher still plays Oasis songs heavily as a solo artist... His recent studio album is a collaboration in 2024 - 'Liam Gallagher. John Squire'... which has the former Oasis singer teaming up w/ former Stone Roses guitarist John Squire.
This is the song that got me to see the band 7 times in the 90s. That, and the fighting between brothers on stage during their shows 🤣. Love this shit guys! Thanks! ✌️ n ❤
Wonderwall was massive in the UK. It "only" reached #2 (they had 8 #1 singles) but sold over 2 million copies. It was released shortly before their "What's The Story Morning Glory?" album came out, which remains one of the biggest selling albums of all time in the UK.
American major fan of Oasis, here. Every time Noel Gallagher hops the pond with his High Flying Birds I drop everything to see him live. He’s one of my favorite writer/musicians & characters of all time - & man is he a character, his interviews are great to listen to. It slays me that Oasis & The Verve were never as big here as they were at home. Noel Gallagher told BBC Radio 2 in a 2002 interview that the true inspiration for “Wonderwall” wasn’t even real. “The meaning of that song was taken away from me by the media who jumped on it,” he said. “And how do you tell your missus it’s not about her once she’s read it is? It’s a song about an imaginary friend who’s gonna come and save you from yourself.” Not sure, but I imagine the reason the acoustic guitar is the only thing colored in the video is because an acoustic guitar sitting around the Gallaghers’ council estate home was where everything started for Noel’s playing & song writing. As he tells it, he recalls picking up an acoustic guitar for the first time when his dad brought one home from the Irish social clubs that he used to spin country & western records in - “It must have been won at a game of cards because he never played it.” It just sat there unused & Noel decided to pick it up one day, thank God. That guitar was the start of everything for them, it changed their lives. The songs Noel wrote for Oasis & has continued to write ever since, including with his High Flying Birds, are still played in my home every day. I’d love to see you cover The Verve’s “Lucky Man”, in my mind that’s one of the most beautiful songs ever written. My favorite of theirs - Richard Ashcroft can write some deep, meaningful lyrics, for sure. I’m so glad Noel, Liam, & Ashcroft are still out there inspired & performing. I hope they never stop!
Bingo on your Beatles comment. These guys were CRAZY about the Beatles. Liam named his first son "Lennon". They got the name "Wonderwall" from a George Harrison's "Wonderwall Music". Even play the Beatles "I Am The Walrus" in their live show, which is a difficult task (hard to cover that one). Their songs are filled with references, hints and plugs from Beatle quotes, songs and albums.
The UK exploded in the 90s with Britpop. Such an awesome time to be young following the crazy club/rave times of Utah Saints, Prodigy and Shamen. The UK rocked through the 90s and was THE COOL PLACE TO BE.
In case someone hasn't has fully explained. Wonderwall was a movie and a soundtrack to that movie with the same name which was written by george Harrison. In the movie there is a guy whose life is basically going down hill and he lives next to this weird hippy chick which he spies on through a hole in the wall. She basically takes him out of his world an into hers through this hole in the wall. So theoretically a wonderwall is someone who takes you out of your bad circumstance and magically puts you into a better more exciting world. Hence " maybe you're going to be the one that saves me, cause after all you're my wonderwall"
Just discovered you this week. And I want to be both of your favorite auntie so bad. I learn something , laugh at something, and listen to music with the nephews.
Undoubtedly the biggest band of the 90s, still to this day they hold the record for the largest demand for concert tickets in British history (5% of entire British population) and also had the fastest selling debut album and fastest selling album in British history until Adele beat the record and also 2 of their songs got voted second best and best song of the 70s, 80s and 90s by the British public, also frontman Liam Gallagher got voted the greatest frontman of all time by the British public a couple years ago.
You’re taking me back to college here! I was 19 and Oasis was part of a large genre I contributed to some Emo alternative. Champagne Supernova is a good one and the live version of Don’t Look Back In Anger is epic!
When oasis was coming out they were saying that they were going to be bigger than the Beatles. Of course those are big shoes to fill, but it showed how cocky and arrogant they were. I believe the word Wonderwall also has a Beatle connection, because George Harrison had recorded an album called Wonderwall Music probably in the late 60s or early 70's. As far as what it means, ive always considered it more of a love song. The singer goes through living his life but wants to find someone who can make his life better or more important than it already is. The lyric used in the song about " all the roads we have to walk are winding" could be another Beatles reference namely The Long and Winding Road.
This was HUGE all over the world. Oasis were HUGE for a decade before they broke up. They still have a massive cult following and their fans live in hope (doubtful) that they will have a reunion. The brothers Liam and Noel both have successful solo careers but haven't spoken to each other since the band split around 2009.
Trash Talkers, Oasis were HUGE in England. Their first album was the fastest selling debut in English history and the follow up, which this song is from, is the fifth best selling album in English history.

Morning guys! I have to admit i do like this song, but it got played out back then. Back then i got burnt out on it,but enjoyed it today since its been awhile since ive heard it. Lol😂
Gonna use my word that ‘nobody uses’ lol… I’m kind of ambivalent about this song. It holds good and bad memories for me, which have nothing to do with the song itself. It reminds me of a time when everything was good and life seemed amazing… and then it went in the opposite direction really fast. The guitars being the only things in color reminds me of Le Ballon Rouge (The Red Balloon), a short French film about a boy and his red balloon. Not filmed in black and white like this video, but the scenery is mostly gray and bleak in contrast to the bright red balloon. The balloon being a symbol of hopefulness and light. Not sure if that’s what Oasis was going for with this video, but that’s what it makes me think of. Liam Gallagher has a son named Lennon so yeah, there’s a lot of Beatles related stuff going on with them lol. Wonderwall Music is the name of George Harrison’s first solo album Re: the singing with a very audible British accent, the Libertines said ‘hold my beer’ 😊
I recommend a listen too another kind of Beatlelesque band (well, not quite musically though...) - The Hives! I recommend Hate To Say I Told You So from their 90's era or Countdown to Shutdown from their newest album that came out last year.
HIIII EVERYONE!!!!! Im here not to talk about Oasis ,but to talk about one GREAT ( RAP/METAL) band that I dscovered last week, called BLOODYWOOD !! They are from India and they are AMAZING !!!!! Just listen a song called DANA DAN, and you will see what Im talking about!!!!!
The brothers feud is well known. Though they once saw black crowes brothers rich and Chris had a full blown brawl back stage once which made oasis feud small. At least Chris and Rick ate back performing together. Don't think that will happen with oasis. Always enjoyed the song. Good way to wake up. Suggestion how about brother or family feuds in groups
Heck, their feuding is probably as well known or more so than their music is! It'd be nice for them to squash it and make some new music and play some dates but, I highly doubt that'll ever happen. If it does, it'll blow the Eagles "Hell Freezes Over" outta the atmosphere! 💙🤘🏼
Hollywood, thanks for making me feel better about my belly! I'm from the UK and had never heard the word 'Wonderwall' before this song and I still don't know what it means! It's undoubtedly a great song but one that got played to death so I grew a bit bored with it. I really like the first two Oasis albums, some of my favourites are 'live forever', 'cigarettes and alcohol', 'some might say', 'acquiesce', 'half the world away' and the song you were trying to remember I think was 'don't look back in anger'. My problem with them is the arrogance the brothers showed in public with egos that the music doesn't match. They're probably great blokes in real life but Oasis were not groundbreaking or innovative, just a very good guitar band (IMO). Cheers
"Stop crying your heart out" it's the song Hollywood F*** , Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we're back to 1998 hehehehe, Wellcome to Oasis world... one of the bests british bands. There are so many songs I can tell you to react to, but MY personal Fav would be Champagne Supernova. They're an amazing band, really really REALLY great music.
Worth watching the documentary: Oasis: Supersonic 2016. You can start to understand the kind of relationship brothers Liam (The younger, and usual/main lead singer) and Noel (5 years older than Liam and the main almost exclusive songwriter) have. Have a listen to Oasis live performances. You'll get a better idea of their performative energy and skills.
Have a look at these (I've just listed the UA-cam video titles): Oasis intro Acquiesce peak of success Oasis - The Masterplan (Saturday 10th August, 1996) [Knebworth 1996] OASIS - Some Might Say (Live at Knebworth) [Sunday 11th August, 1996]
I wish the brothers never allowed their egos to interfere, to allow all the infighting, to make themselves out to be the biggest jerks in the music industry and criticize other bands and musicians. This band has a legendary career and are timeless, but we missed out on nearly 30 years of songs we never got to hear as a result. This band should be one of the biggest bands of our time and should have still continued making legendary music.
Great reaction, not the best Oasis song but definitely the most popular UK and US. 1st song from the 90s to hit 1 billion streams. Check out Live Forever
To fully experience the Brit invasion you need to listen to Blur - Parklife. Oasis and Blur were battling it out to be the top. It led to some amazing music
Read Mark Lanegan’s biography Sing Backwards and Weep about how much of a jerk Liam Gallagher was when Oasis toured with the Screaming Trees in the 90s. It’s quite amazing.
Noel is a top bloke, but an enigma too, he’s said many things about wonder wall, ‘it means nothing’, it’s about Meg, though I like what he once said, which was that as kids they drew goal posts on a garage wall and that was their Wembley ( in USA terms, where ever the Super Bowl is played ) and they pretended to score goals for Manchester City in the cup final and it was their Wonderwall. Quite prophetic really as City were dogshit when he wrote it and City are arguably the best team in the world and winning everything.
My girlfriend asked me if I was ever going to stop singing wonderwall, "I said maybe" 😊
Lol
Funny
😂😂😂😂
Perfect!
I don't really wanna knowww

No, people didn’t think oasis was the next Beatles, oasis thought they were the next Beatles
Many thought they could've been as big as the Beatles. Even Elton John said it.
Oasis is the first and only Oasis.

They were better than the Beatles tbh

Great reaction, not the best Oasis song but definitely the most popular UK and US. 1st song from the 90s to hit 1 billion streams. Check out Live Forever
React to Catfish and the bottlemen pacifier
Manchester's finest 💙
Im mostly here to see all the Oasis super"fans" cry in the comments "rEaL oAsiS fAnS hAtE tHiS sOnG" lol awesome reaction though guys🤘🏻🤌🏼🔥
The only song I like by them is Supersonic. That's a great one!
You should take a listen to the Mike flowers pop version of this song. It’s a hoot
Stop crying your heart out was used in the film the Butterfly effect so you may recognise it from there
Too bad these brothers couldn’t along. Great band. Love albums you can listen to straight through without skipping tracks.
To fully experience the Brit invasion you need to listen to Blur - Parklife. Oasis and Blur were battling it out to be the top. It led to some amazing music
I love Oasis I would like it to react to one of my favorite songs ''Cigarrettes and Alcohol''
Wasn't Bush supposed to be the next huge thing? "Glycerine" was a big hit, if I remember correctly.
Maybe like a British Nirvana. That whole sixteen stone album had some great songs.
They have so many good songs. Try Columbia and Hindu Times
Read Mark Lanegan’s biography Sing Backwards and Weep about how much of a jerk Liam Gallagher was when Oasis toured with the Screaming Trees in the 90s. It’s quite amazing.
You know its good when the belly comes out.
Oasis have plenty of good songs.
oasis LIVE FOREVER MAINE ROAD 1996 react please!!!!
I was born in first week of February 2003
You should listen to the Ryan Adams cover
Noel is a top bloke, but an enigma too, he’s said many things about wonder wall, ‘it means nothing’, it’s about Meg, though I like what he once said, which was that as kids they drew goal posts on a garage wall and that was their Wembley ( in USA terms, where ever the Super Bowl is played ) and they pretended to score goals for Manchester City in the cup final and it was their Wonderwall. Quite prophetic really as City were dogshit when he wrote it and City are arguably the best team in the world and winning everything.
Its reached No 8 in the USA in 1996
Oasis was on track to be the new Beatles. Then Radiohead showed up and Oasis kept playing their “hits”. Great band that got devoured by Radiohead.
Being English I always wondered if oasis was just as big in America as they are in England 🤔
Oasis r objectively an all-time great band and their music holds up
