One of the most beautiful videos done during the 80s. Not too many people review this song so I give you major props for showing this video! You really rock 🤘🙂🎸
Agree..I love his reactions. And this song is one of the most beautifully written songs.
One of my first albums bought 👍🏼❤️🔥🍻
didn't this win like best music video that year? correct me if I'm wrong
The shot of Mark's rifle turning into his guitar... magnificent.
Best cover of this song in my opinion: " James Marcal Brothers in Arms " - sublime...
I was an Army Ranger in the 75th Ranger Regiment and heard this played at a funeral for a soldier who died by his family and up to that point many remained strong and poised but not a dry eye remained after.
They do love songs. "Romeo and Juliet"
oh man , great!
“And all I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme”
Has a better lyric ever been written?
That's a great song.
Hell yeah
My favorite line outta that song, too. ❤
This is a very popular funeral song at the services for former members of the military. It is a very powerful song.
Hell of a comment
@Bryn Webster thank you. Much like "Born in the USA" these are anti-war songs that have been misinterpreted because people don't listen to the lyrics they just want catchphrases. People are stupid
The bonding of soldiers fighting in a pointless war.
@Bryn Webster That is exactly why it is often played. Soldiers are human, of course, and thus able to understand and learn. They are not some idealistic 18-year-old forever, and many veterans I speak to are anti-war as well, even those who volunteered their service. No one understands the horrors and futility more than veterans, I believe. In the US particularly, the families of veterans may be a different matter, but the heart of the song still speaks directly to those who've served, and makes no distinction of borders when it does so.
@@missbelled6700 People who don't hate war have never went to one.
Mark Knofler, what a song writer, and brilliant guitar player, still going strong, his solo stuff is fantastic.
If you want to check out Knopfler solo, listen to "Why Aye Man."
“There’s so many different worlds, so many different suns. And we have just one world, but we live in different ones”, my favourite line ❤️
I can feel his guitar crying...
This song makes me ball my eyes out!!! It is so touching!!!
Was hoping for this one once you started checking out Dire Straits. This song gets me every time.
@Bryn Webster 100% agree. I would put Soldiers Side by System of a Down in the same category. Nothing to argue about, war is terrible and futile.
Me too, I love Mr Video's reaction. Really beautiful. Peace out.
If you haven't seen it, check out the "Live In London" version. It will make you cry...
In Canada, November 11th is Remembrance Day, where we honour our war dead and veterans. At 11:11 on 11/11, we observe a moment of silence. In my city, the classic rock station goes silent during that time and then immediately follows the moment of silence with this song. It's always beautiful.
Knopfler is a singular guitar player. No one else like him for precision and emotional clarity
Written abut the Falklands war anyone who has served will recognise exactly what this song is saying.
I'm just watching this, because of you. Everytime I hear this song , i have to cry like a baby and don't know why 🙈
Me too, reminds me of lost ones.
Amazing what meaningful music can do.
Don’t make music today like they used to
Me to
Me too 😢
one of the greatest songs ever written.
Dire straits never rested on their ass. Every song was a new direction. This song to me was a pinnacle of imagery in words and music. Yes. The picture it paints. Damn.
Thank you so much for playing this Dire Straits classic. I was born in the 40s I live through second world war and watched as my brothers entered into the Vietnam war this song was the soundtrack of my generations antiwar movement. It was our way to say goodbye to the man who never came home and to the man who came Home but we could never recognize for the war had change them forever.
Mark Knopfler talks and his guitar does the singing. He is the best guitarist, every note is perfect!
Hey!,dont forget "So far away", one of their best songs.
I commented the same’✨
I still remember driving across the US with my dad listening to this song, while my mom and sisters were at home.
Espresso Love for me, besides R&J of course.
yeah I feel like you don't see that song being mentioned that often anymore, but that would be an amazing song to react to too!
My favourite DS song ❤️
This is about a dying soldier talking to the soldiers around him, his brothers in arms.
Heartbreaking.
Thank you for reacting to this Leo.
Very well done...
Guy,. You really are making me cry today. Maybe this is what I needed a good cry 😓😓😓. I love you ♥️. And real men do cry.👍👍😍
👍
The graphics on this song were amazing All hand drawn
Every time I listen to this song I think of my dear friend who still suffers emotionally from his time at age 16 in Viet Nam. Dire Straits are just an awesome band. You're very cool as well. You just get it .I love that. Thank you.
Songs can be great for a variety of reasons. This one is more serious by Dire Straits, but beautiful in the emotions that it evokes. And I NEVER get tired of Mark Knopfler's guitar playing. Simply BRILLIANT!!!
Mark wrote this in response to the Falklands War, that left a Royal Navy cruiser and her whole crew sunk and killed in action, all for a useless rocky island off the coast off Argentina.
should react to this with the Falklands video then he'll truly get it
Not useless for those that live on the islands, which are nearly a thousand miles off the coast of Argentina. Ultimately it's the people whose families have lived there for generations that have the right to decide whether they want to remain a British territory or be part of Argentina. As for the Royal Navy ship, are you referring to the Sir Galahad? If so then not everyone died. One very well known survivor is Simon Weston, who suffered serious burns over half his body that required dozens of reconstructive surgeries and left him disfigured for life. An extraordinarily brave man who has not only gone on to achieve much in life but who met and became friends with the Argentine pilot who dropped the bomb which caused his injuries. We truly are 'fools to make war on our brothers in arms'.
@@jjc5407 - thanks for this reply, it's been so long since the war I have definitely forgotten some of the details. I was remembering the Pink Floyd lyric "Maggie over lunch one day took a cruiser, with all hands, to make him give it back".
@@dbradx I wonder if that lyric refers to the British sinking of the Belgrano?
@@jjc5407 Looks like Roger Waters took some artistic license with that one - did a quick bit of research and of the 6 British ships sunk during the war, none were lost with all hands. Guess it just made for a better lyric lol.
This song is a freaking duet! Mark Knopfler sings, and his guitar answers!
This video is so so sobering. Rest in peace for all of the men and women that were willing to put their lives on the line...and died doing it. Great song but so emotional. Man.
10 times platinum in UK, 9 times platinum in USA, 34 weeks no. 1 in Australia. One of the first ever albums recorded on a Sony digital recorder (Air Studios, Montserrat 1984-1985). Grammy award 1986 for best engineered album (non-classical) !
Told you! Hairs on the back of my neck standing up, shivers down the spine and as expected, everytime I hear this, tears. A beautiful and poignant song.
This is an amazing Dire Straits song, so moving. It is interesting that you did this song and Vince Gill on the same day. At one point Mark Knopfler asked Vince to join Dire Straits.
Vince is a phenomenal player in his own right.
Best cover of this song in my opinion: " James Marcal Brothers in Arms " - sublime...
Mark Knopfler in addition to being one of the great guitarists of all time is an ethereal vocalist. Romeo and Juliet next, that's an order 😂
We are fools to make war
On our brothers in arms... so true and so fitting! Glad you did this so soon.
Music can unleash every emotion. Telegraph Road is a great story told by Dire Straits.. glad you listened to Bothers in Arms.
Some more recommendations from Dire straits. They have a really impressive catelog, but only made 6 albums. Personally in my opinion they never made a bad album.
Telegraph Road (the live at alchemy version is really good)
Private Investigations
Calling Elvis
Heavy Fuel
You And Your Friend (Live 1993 version is much much better than studio version which is also strong af)
Planet of New Orleans
Romeo and Juliet
Tunnel of Love
So Far Away
Planet of New Orleans
Solid recommendations here!
Every song listed here is great
Love over gold and on every street are beautiful too
That's some powerful lyrics there and the guitar riffs are superb...! Deep deep deep
Reminds me of driving with my dad as a little girl. Cried all the way through this. Just incredible xxx
Do ‘Romeo and Juliet’ by Dire Straits! Also watch ‘Mark Knopfler on Guitars’ where he walks you through guitar parts of these songs. Make it look easy at first then he gets crazy.
Thankyou!! As a Queen fan, I love love love this song by Dire Straits. Much bless to You dear, and thankyou for reacting to it❤❤ Big hug from the Netherlands
Nice comment
Mark Knopfler is amazing! The whole Brothers in Arms album is great!
Fun fact: In one episode of Miami Vice, they played almost the entire song.
My grandfather fought for Norway in WW2, he was among the troops in Narvik to win the first battle against Hitler with the French. He died in 2015 at the age of 95. I was only 8 years old. This song always reminds me of him…
Mark Knopfler & Crew NEVER Disappoint. They don't have a huge catalog of songs/albums, but EVERY DAMN One of them they Poured their Hearts & Souls in to them. They were well ahead of their time & DESERVE every accolade that was ever laid at their feet & a whole lot more, too Boot.
Mark Knopfler - lead singer, lead guitarist of Dire Straits. His solo stuff is outstanding as well. Album - Mark Knopler “kill to get Crimson” and “Ragpickers Dream”
And everything else he’s done since Dire Straits. His album with Emmylou Harris is outstanding.
THAT is the right reaction to Mark Knopfler... Eyes roll back in your head, and you just collapse, as if his guitar notes were a warm pool.
I don’t think that Mark Knofeler gets enough props when it comes to the guitars greats talk. And so far away is another great song, more up beat like you prefer.
Did you know this is actually a shortened version? The original / album version is over 7 minutes long! It includes a longer (better) intro and a long guitar "solo" at the end. It's great, I'd recommend anyone to check it out if they liked this version.
Yeah, man! This is why they are an incredible band. Mark Knopfler with his amazing guitar work.
I have been hoping and looking forward to you reviewing this beautiful, haunting, poignant song - never fails to bring tears to my eyes. So glad you got it too, keep up your wonderful reactions. Much love from the U.K.! ❤️
This is a beautiful and very moving track. This whole album is incredible.
Duuuuuuude I did play this at my dads funeral as it totally reminds me of him playing the guitar and passing on his love of music to me and I can see the same reactions to music we had in you, your video of black Betty got my attention, thought this dude is lit and finding and feeling new music and it's great to watch. Really enjoyed the queen videos as that is what made me look to see if you had covered this. Keep feeling the music and being you brother, love and buds 😉 from Scotland
yeah it has been a terrible day. myt friends mum died of covid today. she was 50. it makes me feel so sad
Sorry to hear this
Sorry for your loss. 💔
@@gregwilliams9737 i dfeel so sad for her, shes 21. and no other family she was the carer for her mum who had just beaten cancer.
i feel so sad for her

So sorry for your loss ❤🙏
😥 lost my cousin to it on Thursday, she was only 26 ,condolences to you and your friend ❤
‘Local hero/wild theme (Live at les Arenes, Nimes, France 1993)’ such an amazing guitar performance by Mark
That whole album is great
"I'm a brother, I got arms" lol Got me laughing right off the bat!
Mark Knopfler wrote this song during the Falklands war in the 80's Dire straites best of British, please listen to privats investigation by them.. live is best.
Makes me tear up every time I hear this song ..,deep is a good description my brother
Brotha, the first time I heard of this song was an episode of Miami Vice called Out Where the Buses Don't Run, Season 2 episode 4. At the end of the showdown A retired Vice detective (Bruce McGill) offers to assist Crockett and Tubbs with their latest case. The only problem? The man the former detective claims is running the drug ring they are investigating supposedly died years ago. Check it out n u will here Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits.
Mark Knopfler, in his 70s now, continues to write and record....try What it is, Boom Like That, Coyote, Postcards from Paraguay, Back on the dance Floor, Good on You Son, Trapper Man, etc. etc. etc. He’s a genius, I’ve loved him for 40 years now. The more you learn about his lyrics, the more you appreciate his songs. Of course, his virtuoso guitar playing speaks for itself.
Such a sad song. Marks voice and guitar always brings me to tears it's so hauntingly beautiful.
That's my favorite song from them. That guitar kills me everytime 🤟🏻🔥❤️
This song is right next to
*Pink Floyd - On The Turning Away*
when it comes to classic sad songs
Check out " ride across the river" and " the man's too strong" Dire straits.
Albert Levy
Brothers in Arms is a great album, the first three songs are by far the worst on that masterpiece.
If this doesn't bring a tear to your eye your soul is dead
Before twenty seconds into this song I get goosebumps. Thirty-five seconds in, my eyes start watering. It never fails. Every time I hear it.
RIP Arthur Blain, injured at Gallipoli, died and interred at Pieta cemetery, Malta 1916. I think of you every time I hear this song. RIP Uncle Arthur. Our extended family remembers you and thanks you for your service
As an old Peace loving hippie, war cuts deep into my heart, especially Vietnam. Never believed in that one, and my heart ached for those young men who went over and were treated like dirt upon their return. It's left a scar on my soul. Dire Straits says it so well. Cutting! Definitely check out "Twisting By The Pool!"
"Lady Writer" is another great Dire Straits song.
Been looking forward to this one buddy. One of my favourite songs.
Here is another Dire straits classic you should try. It’s called Romeo and Juliet
The guitar lines in this song make the hair on my arms stand up every time.
The Beatles--"Let it be" and "Hey Jude" (a live version) two very popular songs of theirs!
Check out Gary Moore Pariseenne Walkways another smooth guitar track.
Can't beat a bit of Gary Moore, still got the blues is another great track.
That was my favorite song on that album!!!
That entire album is great.
I totally spat my coffee, "I'm a brother I got arms" fucking quality.
“So far away” is another great of theirs! 🤎🤍✨✌️
Hahahaha!! “ I’m a brotha, I got arms” man you crack me up 🤣🤣🤣 yep this one is deep 😢😢
You’ve got to have the lyrics on this… this is such a meaningful tribute to the young Brit’s that fought in the Faulklands, and to those who came home without their brothers in arms!

Real. True. Just like your reaction. RIP my slaughtered fallen brothers, who died for the rich.
Makes me cry every time
Beautiful song, that line, 'every man has to die' chokes me up every time
I appreciate you listening to this track man... When I was in the army, I lost a good buddy who loved this song and played it quite a bit. I cry every time I hear it so I have to avoid it unfortunately. But I watched your reaction to it and you did it proper justice so thanks.
A lot of us who served would admit to a few grains of dust in our eyes when this one plays. No shame in that mate. Its one way we remember how it felt. Hope your buddy rests easy and fair winds to you.
Heard it the other year and cried it is truly haunting 😔.
Yo man. I've been on the band for 30 years already! Lifelong favourite, especially the live performances!
"On Every Street" makes me cry every time because of one particular girl who I'll never get out of my head.
One off my favourite tunes of all time.
Try The Man's Too Strong on the same album. Totally different mood, I think you'll like it.
You should react to the entire “The Wall” Album by Pink Floyd 🐐
YES! Then the movie
Yesss! Agreed 💯
Especially the song Money shook me when I was stoned in my ypunger days
@@Kallesen68 money is on a different album, dark side of the moon, which is another album that should be reacted to in its entirety
@@Leon011 thanks for correcting my mistake, but anyway that number made me tripping when i was high
So far Away is a great Dire Straits song.
So is Skid Row “Monkey Business “.
I'm really glad that you stuck this song out Leo. The sounds were very soothing. Thanks.
This is such a great album and I really love this song ~ blessings to all of our brothers in arms and their families...♡
"Romeo and Juliet" "Skateaway" "Industrial Disease"
Absolutely ❤ & appreciate how you let these songs hit you Leo
The official video is an edit of the full length song version which is in the Brothers in arms album (one of the most successful rock albums ever), and they did cut the likely best part of the final solo
Music is so healing especially when its deep and sad. You have been doing deep songs today. Its real good 👍 Missing my Dad so much and hearing this just hits my soul 💔 😪
Your reactions & expressions are more than on point Leo
Yep...you are a brother, and you've got arms - know what else you've got? Soul and heart.
Incredible song my favorite by them , beautiful music and message
I love this song, brings a tear to the eye everytime. another brilliant reaction
These mist covered mountains
Are a home now for me
But my home is the lowlands
And always will be
Someday you'll return to
Your valleys and your farms
And you'll no longer burn to be
Brothers in arms
Through these fields of destruction
Baptisms of fire
I've witnessed your suffering
As the battle raged high
And though they did hurt me so bad
In the fear and alarm
You did not desert me
My brothers in arms
There's so many different worlds
So many different suns
And we have just one world
But we live in different ones
Now the sun's gone to hell and
The moon's riding high
Let me bid you farewell
Every man has to die
But it's written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We're fools to make war
On our brothers in arms
So glad you did this one...it’s so moving ♥️
Incredible song. Great reaction.
We’re all the damn same. Can’t we just get along?
“It’s written in the starlight
And every line in your palm
We’re fools to make war
On our Brothers in Arms...”
you never been out od words like this time . They got you ;)
He caresses the guitar as he gently embraces the lost souls who will never be born.
Telegraph Road is the next logical step in your Dire Straights evolution. Doing the Alchemy (live) version will be well worth the extra minutes. Put a timer on your comments because the track can carry you away and get your video blocked.
