If you live in a cold snowy climate and thinking of getting this car I highly recommend Everyday Driver's year update video where they went into the pros and cons of owning this in the snow, but the TL;DR is that it's not just doable, but actually fun, if you put the right tires on.

i had a BMW M Roadster, sold it, regretted it, bought a VW Golf, hated it, sold it for a profit, bought a 22 BRZ. The BRZ has similar power to weight as the M Roaster, not nearly the torque but the light weight, low center of gravity, handling, practicality, low stress/low cost to maintain makes it a better overall car to daily, or even just flat out to own as a 2nd car.

I will be going from a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek (daily driver) to a 2024 BRZ Limited Automatic (shoulder surgery, need automatic). I recently retired and don’t have to drive in extreme weather; the family vehicle is a 2018 Highlander V6. So this will be my fun car with 4-5k annual mileage. The last fun car I had was a 1988 CRX SI (car and driver “car of the year”, weighing about 2000lbs). I just want a fun to drive car, that I can enjoy in my early retirement. 😎

This is pretty on point. I think you should include the 2020-2021 1st gen refresh owners that were really close to the 2nd gen release. There’s more efficient aero and structural design tweaks than expected. I picked up the 1st gen in 2015, supercharged it, and did a lot of user interface updates like stage 1 ACT clutch kit, steering rack lock down, peripheral monitoring, all mtec springs (assist and detent), master cylinder brace, stop tech brake kit, and throttle pedal spacer. My car is 8 years old now, but if I picked one up in 2020 or 2021 despite the special edition releases, I would be kicking myself in the rear for being a little too impatient. They did fix a lot of things we complained about. I can attest even though you can get 50% more power with FI, it does take away a little confidence going into and out of corners, unless you dial in suspension and tires. The car as a N/A is extremely predictable and feels stable going 10/10. If I could do it over I would have just gone brakes, e85, and LSD. Then save up for the 2nd gen to trade for my 1st gen. Instead I’m in a fully functional, mostly reliable, money pit lol. Not mad though, I did pick up a GR Corolla. Backwards from the initial D formula, but I have a decent benchmark to compare a FI BRZ/GT86 to while I turn it into a track car.

Valid points. I don't think I could get in this car coming from a '08 335i. I actually don't need all that stupid extra tech - I hate all that tech, in fact - but I will not be able to adjust to the lack of power. I drive an '06 Audi A4 for my winter beater that is gutless, and I'm fine with that for the winter. My sporty car needs some punch though. Love this and the miata, but regardless of how light they are, I can't drive something that cannot seamlessly pass a transport truck up a hill.

I'm thinking about this car or the hybrid Toyota Yaris xD
I know, I am weird, I like lightweight cars generally, my current is the "VW up!" :)
Not gonna buy a new one either way, they will be so much cheaper on the used market in x years.
I'm probably gonna get the Yaris and someday rent out the GR86 or the MX5... Or I might get something different altogether, I'll see.
    Anyhow, nice video! :D
