In past videos I've been asked about my card/cabinet scraper holder so I thought I would make a video and show what it is and make a new one. It really is a very basic but effective tool. It makes scraping a much easier task without the stress on your thumbs.
I also took the opportunity to make a scraper from an old saw blade and show how I sharpen them. There maybe other techniques used by others to sharpen a scraper but this works for me consistently every time.
I hope you enjoy the video and as always I'm happy to answer any questions.

Pask Makes has to be one of my favorite content creators on UA-cam.😁
5 years later, and I made it! Out of black walnut and attendant hardware. My piece broken right down the middle, but after gluing up a support bracket, it seems to be holding fine - for now. I followed Mr Pask's directions on how to put a burr on, and for the first time, I got some shaving. Hurrah! Thanks Mr P, for your great idea.
I really enjoy that you don't waste the viewers time with nonsense, you just accelerate right through it. That is so key in our ADD world.

That is just plain cool! I recently pulled a piece of scrap stainless from the rubbish with the aim of making a cabinet scraper so I really appreciate you showing not only the build, but the sharpening technique as well. Sub'd, bro!
Thank you - I'm glad it was helpful to you! :)
This is such a cool idea. Making useful tips from scraps is the best thing ever!
Your visual aid of how the edge looks was most helpful. Very clever.
Ive seen a guy use a belt sander to prep the edge, then burnish it. Result seemed the same but he only created a hook on one side
I have really enjoyed your videos because Ive just moved to Africa and they just don't have big box stores. So I have to make all my tools from scratch.
Glad they've been helpful! Sounds like a great challenge! :)
Where do you buy your scratch at?
Where in Africa
I have never seen a card scraper in any of the stores...
@_ David _ Oh I know you can get them on amazon, but I've not seen them in big box stores... not that I was really looking that hard.
Great idea and video. I've struggled with scrapers as my fingers are getting a little arthritic and can't hold it in position, but this allows me to start using a cabinet scraper again. Thanks!
Sensational, just too good this scraper. I needed exactly this tool. Thank you so much for sharing the your experience with all of us. A big hug.
Pask, thank you so much for all of your videos. I really enjoy all of them. Making a wooden mockupof the blade was brilliant. It helped me understand the concept better.
@PaskMakes nice upcycling! I knew there had to be a use for old saws!
This is an amazing video for card scrapers, I watched one in the past that made it sound a lot more complicated without even including the handle
That is the most succinct and understandable explanation of sharpening a scraper I've seen. Thank you very much.
No worries Donal! :)
I like your model of a bur. That was worth a second thumbs up.
Genius as usual! Those shavings you were getting at the end might be the best scraper shavings I've ever seen! Thank you for the straightforward explanation of what a card scraper is and how they work.
Thanks Mike - glad it was helpful! :)
As always mate, neat ideas for simple and effect projects with a practical use, thank you.
It's really satisfying to see how well that tool works and how clean the timber comes up. Great video mate
Great idea, now I know what to do with some of my old hand saws that have been hanging around, unused, for years. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Nice video too.

No worries Jack! :)
I like simple solutions to problems and this one fits the bill so to speak. Great job.
Your illustration of how the edge of card scraper is u shown best by making of ply edge thanks a lot
Each time I am amazed by the quality you reach no matter the idea! The end result turns out so clean! Congrats and thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much Cedric! :)
super use full i think i have the confidence now to try to make this
Good job mate! card scrapers made simple with good explanation. Like your style and movement.
Thank you! :)
In addition to being very talented and knowledgeable, you have the heart of a teacher. Always enjoy your vids. Thank you.
No worries - thanks Jim! :)
"Well by date", actually made sense to me.
What a great scraper!
Lovely shavings. Very nice video. I think I´ll make one. Thanks!
like your explanation and like your showing different ways of achieving the same results.
No worries! :)
I liked your wood model that explains how the card scraper works. Thanks!
Oh my friend just saved me chunk of change! where I live there is no way to find one (have searched every mayor hardware store) and have to wait a month for delivery if I buy one online so there is an old hand saw laying around and will work for this scraper :)
Yes!!!!! Pasktastic, love it, and very true...Cheers...rr from rainy, cold, muddy Normandy
Great video. Many thanks. Getting a really good hook was a bit of a mystery to me. Now all is clear!
Glad it was helpful! :)
Always inspired! I'm going to build one like this. Thanks for sharing!
No worries! :)
Great job. Reminds me of my Dad when he would make his own tools since he couldn't afford to buy them.
Very good! I think I need to make one also! Thank you.
Another great build. I love how you think. There is always a better (in this case more comfortable) way of doing things.
Thanks Patrick! That's always the challenge - to try and improve on something! :)
I'm so glad i found your channel Pask. Great tutorials i'm dying to try some of these out!
Thanks - glad you like it! :)
Simple and effective. I will definitely make one of these.
Great vid, very clever adding the holder, thanks for the inspiration!
No worries! :)
Nicely done! I'll be trying some of my own.
Thank you very much, for your teachings, it is very much money saver and it is very much functional.
Awesome tool! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks - No worries! :)
Thanks for another great video, lots of good advice I can use in the one I'm making👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
No worries - glad it was helpful! :)
Brilliant! Been meaning to buy myself a scraper, but now I can actually put my old saw to good use and make my own scraper! Cheers mate!
No worries Jenny! :)
Nice whispy shavings, great idea. Thanks for sharing.
No worries! :)
Very nice! I have made and used cabinet scrapers but withut your nice holder.
I use an old pinion shaft from a differential gear set to burnish It works great very hard steel.
Brilliant. I can now make a stack of card scrapers for less than the cost of buying just one. I have old saws in the shed, but if I didn't, they're fairly easy to find at yard sales and flea markets/boot sales.
Glad you liked it Thomas! :)
Nice little project...Well explained !
Love this simple concept!
Lovely work mate. Just found your channel, loving catching up with what you have been doing.
Nice one!
Hi Pask - many thanks for your videos! they are great and a source for inspiration!
No worries Stefan! Glad they are helpful. :)
So well explain! Thanks mate!
Love your stuff!
Thanks Philippe! :)
Brilliant idea mate. Great tut as well, easy to follow. And those "well by dates"... hehehe
Awesome! I'm going to make an attempt at making a simplified version of the Stanley no.82.
Very useful tool to have and a great way of improving on it! :) thanks for sharing!
No worries! :)
dude...love it. ill make one too. great explaination. cheers fron Argentina
So glad to have found this. Been catching up on your videos for a little while. I'm just getting into wood working and got a scraper recently and haven't got the knack for sharpening it yet. Your method is different from what I've seen and I wonder if it'll work better for me. I also had been hoping that you'd show this build after seeing the holder in another video. Love the channel and I'm excited for more. Keep it up! Cheers
Right under your video there is an ad for "card scraper holders" starting from $14.00 to $41.00 and none as nice as the one you made.
Excellent vid. I have several old sawblades sitting in my shop (estate sales, for the win!), one of which will meet this fate.
Thank you - great to hear you're going to make one! :)
Many thanks. Great video. Made one and it looks awesome
Great to hear Steve! :)
Brilliant creation bro!
I love using those scrapers, you get such a lovely finish... cheers for idea, will definitely do this. 👍🏼😊
Forgot to add....Saves the thumbs 👍🏼😉
Thanks Marc - glad it was helpful! :)
Nice technique for cutting with a wood as a guide.
again a great video! simple to build, but extremely useful!!
Thank you! :)
Great idea. Thanks for the advice. 🤘
Great idea. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks.
Thanks Mike! :)
thank you for your time and information I needed it
Nice video. A few holes drilled through the steel and a few nuts and bolts and it could scrape in both directions...
Thank you for the top-notch video.
very good and simple idea. Thanks
Damn dude is there nothing you won’t make. I’m pretty sure he’s going to build a Tesla next. Absolutely love your ingenuity. You are by far the most creative woodworker I’ve seen. Keep it up!
Another Pasktastic video!
Haha - thank you! :D
cheers.
handmade tools are just the best
No worries - I agree! :)
Excellent video
I just found your site. You make some kick ass stuff 👍👍😯
Super Video.Danke!
I still use a scraper made from an old saw that was given to me 45 years ago and was made in the 1920's and its better than the newer ones I have bought over the years.
Bloody ripper scraper mate 👍
Geez, might even make one of those!
Good work
Go for it Robert! :)
Thank you for thinking outside the box was thinking of getting some BUT can make some now :-)
Thank you
No worries Joseph! :)
Nice one, I was going to throw 4 old saws away but thought what a waste of steel now I know better.
Brilliant sir! Thank you!
I probably ought to get a burnisher someday. I usually use a long drill bit and run out of long part of the bit.. The holder's a great idea. I have a few useless handsaws laying about to.
very good explanations and awesome techniques.
Thank you! :)
I made my first scraper card a few days ago and I thought that I wouldn't ever need a scraper plane/holder. Long story short, after 20/30 minutes using the scraper with my hands my right hand collapsed and my thumb inflamed like a tennis ball. I'll make one of these, by the way, I love your design, simple and effective.
Thanks for sharing !
Thank you! Amazing video!!!
Fantastic work mate! The adjustment screw is a great idea!!😊👊
Thanks mate - glad you like that! :)
Pask Makes you're very welcome:)
ReAlly cool project
Cheers
Tim from Wood 4 Nothing
It may be more trouble than its worth... but I had the thought of making one using two pieces of wood, one with a predetermined curve in the backside, and another to fit the curve, then the screw can go thru all three, back plate, scraper and front plate, so as you adjust the screw, the curve gets adjusted until it meets fully with the two pieces of wood. The back plate would be a smaller piece to avoid the handles of the front plate. This way, the back plate puts even pressure across the entire scraper, and its depth accuracy would be determined by your pressure on the tool, less flex of the blade.
love the idea! also SUPERB explanation of the "hook" edge, and how to roll that edge into the "precisely dimensioned burr", a technique most texts are incredibly wanting for clarity on. video perfection, sir!
Thank you - glad it was helpful! :)
Always great ideas. I am SO SICK of sanding....Thanks, as always
cheers...rr
Thanks Richard - yes it's much better than breathing in that dust and more enjoyable too! :)
You are very ingenius!
Love your videos!!
Most excellent!!!
very very good job
Excellent, thank you.
Very good!
