    I love your channel and your awesome products. That being said... the number of WOMEN in woodworking is growing tremendously! I recently went to an estate sale of a woodworker who had passed and bought the entire collection of hardwood and turned around and sold half of it. Two of the four purchasers were women. Last time I was at Rockler, the man helping me said "when you were in her last Monday, all of our customers that day were women". Time to addies ladies to the gentlemen. 😁

    Hey Jon, thanks for the guide. This is awesome. And, how about a jig for your jig for the last step to set the card at the right height to to create the hook? As simple as 2 machines pieces to prop up your jig on the bench. Then just "drop" the card inside the jig until it bottoms at the bench, and tighten the bolts. Hey, Thx for the guide will definitely build it!

    I have watched the video multiple times, and I cannot figure out what the "5 degree" cuts on the sides are used for. The angles on the tops are all I ever see him use for sharpening. And why do the plans say 175 degrees? Is that because both cuts are actually 15 degrees?

    In the final phase, as you are putting the 5 degree hook on the card's edge, you have the bottom of the card below the vice, and stuck between the jaws to hold the entire thing in place. Doesn't that crush the burr you've just placed on that bottom edge?

    Most of what I know from woodworking I learned from the New Yankee Workshop. I’m totally clueless when it comes to card scrapers as Norm never used one. Honestly I spent this video not knowing what was going on for three quarters of it. Like this wooden thing made in this video is only for sharpening right? You wouldn’t use it with the card scraper during normal use right?

    • @G0F15H
      @G0F15H 4 роки тому

      @dtemp132 Correct, it is just a jig to flatten and then draw out the hook on the edge of the scraper. Watch at 12:55 and that’s how a scraper is used. It is basically a smoothing plane with a microscopic blade. You hold it around 60 degrees and can either push away or draw towards you. You’ll get a feel for the angle and pressure real quick. Once it starts making dust the hook has been lost; just flip the scraper around and use another side

    Now...curved card scrapers, like the goosenecks. Any wisdom?

    Wait a minute. The steps you show in this video will not give a "mushroomed" edge profile. How did the burr become rolled outside of the flat side?

      When you roll the top. Did you see the shavings at the end? Clearly it did. Watch my other card sharpening video for more details. Cheers

    FAIL! Where's the high speed footage of a card scraper going across a board? I bet William Walker would have had high speed footage. :)

    What's with the multiple William Walker jabs? One seemed funny but then it got petty.

      Used to be a thing that we always took jabs at each other. All in good fun
