It's foolish to think Apple hasn’t already been working on those glasses. Apple Vision is just a developers' testing ground. We are the early test adopters. Apple will probably have their better-looking glasses out before Facebook releases this product. Apple will tie the glasses to the phone, which is wise for keeping people in the ecosystem. Let the phone do the complex processing.

M1 released in 2020, and the first answer to that chip is arrived in 2024.. so his optimism have a stable basis.. Apple always doing their test on multiple products, like they already testet foldable phones for years, but they still refuse to release a phone what destroy the screen in 2-3 years just by using, they are offering software support for 6-8 years, so the hardware must survive at least that period too.. Android doing the "beta tests on 100% price" you will also pay the 100% for early access and for full release.. but most people want to use their phone for longer, and they want the final version what can be finetuned with software, but not required a new hardware purchase.. just like LTPO 120Hz.. you needed to buy a new device for that extra 2 hours of battery time, even if you just bought a new 120Hz Android a few month ago.. (because they can't update your hardware, you need to buy the new hardware each time.. and just to put the more expensive parts inside the phone, without new usage method is not innovation, it's just a way to raise the profit.. innovation is that when you already found a way to use the newer hardware better too.. like Android manufactured throwed their so proud 120Hz into the trash just to use the LTPO 120Hz instead, what Apple introduced..)
Data collection is a problem, I want the ability to choose what data I’m willing to give, some websites allow the user to choose which data cookies to accept, I choose reject all, if it’s available, some websites have a statement saying this website uses cookies without giving opt out options at all. I don’t know if cookie choice actually works but I want the ability to choose, websites should not have the ability to steal data from users.
The AVP would be a much bigger success if Apple actually got involved in leading the way in terms of apps and content. The App Store is turning into a graveyard of amateur work by solo developers. Half the apps I’ve bought don’t even work properly. There is no reason we shouldn’t be half way to Ready Player One by now (without the dystopia). So far it seems like the Gucci app is the only thing that’s showcasing all the things you could do with the AVP.
I love my AVP and had expected it would replace my Quest 3. Guess what…nope! I’m keeping both because the AVP doesn’t have the level of interaction/play/use that Meta has brought into the Quest. The AVP is the better use case for me for work and watching movies but for anything else…they just don’t have the software.
Vision Pro is necessary to develop an OS that scales to glasses, but I think it’s myopic to say that vr headsets are just a stopgap to glasses. This conversation reminds me of everyone thinking Apple was betting that Vision Pro would replace the iPhone, when that was never the case. It’s a home / office computer and has been used as such.
The Meta Raybans features are great, but I’m not crazy about dark rimmed glasses. On my wish list for AR glasses would be the display of maps when I’m walking in an unfamiliar place or help finding my way if lost in the woods. Other nice enhancements would be the display geological layers and weather radar. I hope Apple will work with Meta so control from my watch and phone will be seamless.

They seem to have some great relationships with manufacturers and bleeding edge industrial engineers and the free cash to bet on the long game. If you care about ecosystem. I would never have guessed Facebook would be so good at real products and real research, though. I hope they can figure out the $$$ waveguide lens issue. Not until really good conversational AI comes out and can somehow be trained on trade/craft skills that can’t really be effectively scraped off of current internet. Like how they have ghost coaching for fitness and yoga by smart apps and smart gyms, I’d like that for gardening, bouldering, car repair, wood work, plumbing, metal work, painting… If they have a Tesla like feature where the camera cooperates with other glasses to catch crime and perps that’d be great.
Apple should be working on an answer to Meta’s innovation in this space or are they still out of touch and asleep at the wheel? Is there anyone at Apple with the forward thinking vision towards innovation? Is Apple aware of the competition in this space and the need to get serious about competing? If Tim Cook isn’t focused in the right direction for Apple to compete then it’s time for him to do a ‘Biden’ and pass the torch to the next generation of forward thinking innovators
Apple could be late to the party by then, unless it has some mind blowing technology that works at launch instead of promising features that won’t be available until a date sometime in the future. I’m rooting for the Apple Vision Pro but it needs some serious hardware and software engineering fixes and updates and a much more reasonable price. Maybe if and when an Apple Vision Pro 2 comes out
Glasses won’t replace pocket computers. People prefer to not wear gadgets on their face or eyeballs. A push for fashion and trendiness will only go so far to help it. I think cameras should and will eventually be removed from smart glasses in the future. Or be subject from constant built-in decency surveillance. Each picture monitored like they would(should) be for social media uploads. One day the cameras will have zoom and it’s not like you can’t put black nail polish on the indicator light. At some point a generation will get sick of being recorded without consent. In Deutschland some older generations were very assertive with tourists and their photo captures.
@@mac6779 Photographers and non perverts might want a regular camera, human bot boy. I think people will get tired of taking low quality pictures of everything. AI aid and surveillance are the only long lasting use cases I think have long haul applications. Snap chat sexting will preferably be done using pocket slabs and robots.
I’m adding more to consolidate the thought for myself. Encouraging people to use it to train future ai on crafts and tribal knowledge could be a win. Read all the books and UA-cam videos you want, it’s hard to accumulate wisdoms and tricks for physical tasks. Opting in or being rewarded for teaching ai your trade may be a thing there. This is coming from a childhood watching teachers and aids giving some kids a little extra and a little malinfo to other kids. It’d be nice to totally be free from the poor and sometimes dangerous education systems available to us
