  • The Huge Conversation with Mark Zuckerberg...
    I interviewed Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg before Connect. There are not many people with more power over our future. Right now, Mark Zuckerberg and his team are imagining the future billions of people might live in, soon, and building towards it. So, in this conversation, my goal is to figure out what that future looks like. To paint a picture of the future Mark Zuckerberg is trying to build, so that you can decide for yourself what you think of it.
    We talked about the Meta's new Orion prototype AR glasses, creating holograms and the Star Trek universal translator, generative AI changing social media, big trends in human connection, open sourced AI, Ray Ban Meta glasses and Quest 3S, the biggest genuine question on his mind right now, and more...
    Welcome to the first episode of our new series, Huge Conversations…
    Special thanks to Derek Thompson, for his generous guidance on my first long-form interview!

    Interesting to hear how he rationalizes social media's enormous impact on human interactions/relationships by stating that it doesn't take away from the ability or desire to meet up in person. It's completely out of touch with the reality, but that must be how he sleeps at night. People are addicted to social media and it has had a devastating effect on human society.
    I'm grateful that I grew up in a time when we all weren't plugged into the internet and social media 24/7. I learned how important relationships, friendships, and doing things in person are.

      You see the problem is that nobody wants to take any damn responsibility for themselves that the habits they develop. If this is too addicting well then maybe we might actually need a a system where people can go and get specifically tailored mental health services with regard to social media addiction.

    • @ClayMann
      @ClayMann 2 години тому +11

      its a bit silly writing that on a social medial platform that harvests everything you're doing and builds a profile on you richer than any other company on Earth manages. It is quite amusing how common your take is though. People texting from their smartphone supercomputers in their pockets connected to anyone on Earth in near real-time that they don't want the fancy technology, they want the olden times when you had to wait a week or two for a reply to your hand written letter. Sure you do, sure.

    • @Suidloc
      @Suidloc Годину тому +2

      @@ClayMann That's a very simplistic take on what I wrote. Who do you thing the "Cool story bro" was for? Satya Nadella from Microsoft whom isn't even in the video or Mark Zuckerberg?
      I never said I wanted no one to have access to my data and be able to sell it. I want to have the option to explicitly allow or deny the gathering and sale of "my" data. You are correct that most of the tech companies (small and large) do whatever they want with people data but it is Meta specifically that I do not want to have access to my data in any way shape or form because Meta has proven, time and time again, that they cannot and will not deal with the data in an non-malicious way.

    • @TheWefikus
      @TheWefikus Годину тому +2

      Be that as it may, he’s one of the who are shaping the world we’re going to live in. And the more we can hear him thoughts, the better. Sure, it’s all curated with his PR team, but you can still read a lot of things between the lines.

    • @ryantabel8689
      @ryantabel8689 Годину тому +1

      @@TheWefikus I would agree if it wasn't such a PR answer about everything. Like when Cleo asked about why he thinks young people are so lonely he completely rejected the idea that social media has anything to do with it and just word jumble dodges the question. I want to believe in his thoughts but I can't trust that they're honest. They are most certainly just for Meta's benefit and profit at the cost of others, not for the optimist world of technology that Cleo often showcases.

    Mark seems optimistic about all of this which brings me peace because he is on the back end of all this innovation.

    That is legit impressive, and as a tech nerd I'm quite intrigued.
    But if I ever stood talking to someone - as they're wearing them - I could never feel like they're part of our conversation, since I know they could have something "on screen" that is distracting them.

    To all of you in the comments criticizing Cleo's choice to interview Mark Zuckerberg, bringing up all the bad things he has done, etc., please go watch her video explaining the purpose of this new series: ua-cam.com/video/JbKzSDfDdns/v-deo.html
    It will only take two minutes out of your day. In it she explains that she will be interviewing many leaders who are essentially building the future, whether she agrees with them or not, in order to give us a better idea of their perspectives of the future so that we can understand where the world is going.
    Because people like Mark, like it or not, are shaping our future, and there is nothing we can do to help it. What we can do is to try to understand what people like him want in this future so that we can find a way that we fit into the grand scheme of things.
    That is what Cleo is trying to help us do, and what she has always tried to encourage on this channel - to understand the world around us and what the future may hold.

    I'm curious to see how these topics will be used to aid in the mental health field. As someone who experiences dissociated identities, I would be excited to have the opportunity to allow myself an "Avatar wardrobe" of sorts. Or for my therapist to have the opportunity to sit in on and meditate conversations I have with myself. I'd sign my soul away for a Neuralink (w/the new vision updates) and a pair of these glasses. To serve on the forefront of mental health AI, even as a guinea-person, would be the greatest honor.
    Amazing show! The truly best way we can serve Tomorrow, is with optimism. Not because History deserves it, but because Tomorrow does.

      not only the looks - this is one of the most dystopian humans we have. Because unlike someone like Must who has lost touch with reality, Mark also has this air of desperation that will likely push the technology beyond human's best interest

    I am so impressed with the obvious and deep preparation that you did for this interview. I have watched so many lost opportunities in interviews because of interviewers trusting that they can wing it. Amazing and I think that your channel should be included in a school’s STEAM curriculum. We are going to put it into ours
