I'm working on my load out / setup for a Nucanoe Pursuit. It's a bit more complicated because I do an awful lot of fly fishing along with conventional gear. I also use it in freshwater and inshore saltwater. Fly fishing puts a premium on an open deck design but I think I may have it rigged for my purposes. Now to get on the water!
How did you rig reverse lock ?? Or maybe just use your paddle ??? That is a sweet setup. It’s impressive the speed you get with that much equipment onboard. Thanks for letting us check it out!!!
I use my paddle or use the motor in reverse but I don’t lock it. I use it in reverse very slow and the friction alone is enough to hold it in the locked position. That way I don’t forget it in the locked position and then hit something and it won’t pop up
Great video, thanks. Getting pwr129 in 2 weeks. Dealer will install Newport NK300 on stern. In NJ I often go in tidal rivers off of the ocean as well as Raritan Bay. 10% I am in a group that goes in ocean which could be out of inlet or launch thru surf. Different opinions as to where to place battery. Some advise that place in front hatch (rivers & bay)to make a more even weight placement vs. rear of seat to launch thru surf so bow is raised a little to cut waves. Some say have both. Opinion? Appreciated.
I do personally because it fits my fishing style better. I fish shallow a lot and a ton of rivers and bow mounts aren’t the best for that in my opinion. I will be experimenting with the bow mount more this year and my son loves his and actually prefers it for most the year.
I know you said that capacity is probably listed conservatively. I’d be curious how much weight it’d take before it’s no longer self-bailing. Shoot, I wish all manufacturers had that listed.
I would say that if I had to guess on this one since I was part of developing the weight capacity that it would be around 85-90% capacity. I will actually put together a test and shoot a short video demonstrating this. NuCanoe does this with the Unlimited by stating the scupper in and scupper out capacity. I’m not a fan of fully plugging the scuppers and calling that capacity because it can be dangerous if you take on any water, but at least they are transparent and it’s stated go front to make the consumer aware.
@@ChadHooverFishing Sounds great. Completely agree, the fully plugged capacity is not something you want to ever approach. But I do like knowing the weight at which a kayak is no longer self-bailing.
I’m torn between the PWR129 and the Nucanoe unlimited. Going to be using it for fishing, hunting, and general recreational. Paddling ability is important as well as stability. The unlimited is wider, but you mentioned the PWR 129 may be even more stable. Any input comparing the two would be greatly appreciated.
They are both pretty stable. The Unlimited has much more initial stability so you will always feel stable. The PWR has a lower initial stability, but even with it being a little narrower it is comparable, if not better for secondary stability. The comparison for paddling goes to the PWR for sure as it paddles better in my opinion.
Hey Chad. What mount is that you have the fishfinder on? Also, do you have your transducer sitting under the lowest part of the kayak? Curious how your sidescan works?
Expecting delivery today of a pwr129. I see you have a Lowrance mounted on yours. I will be mainly going into Raritan bay & occasionally going around the top of Sandy Hook into the ocean. Which unit would you recommend? I'm following all of your videos, cannot thank you enough.
I research the crap out of kayaks and have been watching your stuff for years. I just put a Newport 180P on my Topwater 106 and let me tell you, the rigging wasn't easy. Bonafide is so dialed in to what the kayak angler needs in this day and age. This will be my next kayak for sure. There are several reasons. Number 1 is the ease in rigging. From the fishfinder pod to the access panels, Bonafide has done a great job! Number 2 is the junk drawer. I know it's a small thing but I've been so jealous of that feature every since Bonafide first came out. And the final reason is the direction of the brand. This is one of the few kayak brands that seems to be designed by folks who actually fish. Thanks for what you do Chad and even though you were Navy, I appreciate you!
I wish Chad could help me set up my new RVR. im new to kayake fishing but living in a subdivision now i have no place to park a boat. I plan to fish the st joseph river in South Bend In.
The sidekick cart is sold out in a lot of places. Can you tell me which yakattack cart works best for the pwr 129 you can stow and go? Great content! Gave me some great ideas for when my pwr 128 arrives!
Thanks Chad! Does it stow behind the seat like the sidekick? I can’t find anything on UA-cam with this cart and the pwr 129. Finally getting my kayak this weekend.
@@ChadHooverFishing I finally picked up my pwr 129 today from The Complete Fisherman. They didn’t have the buster so I picked up the bar cart. Will it work as well?
Well I am new to the Kayaking seen I just ordered a 2024 Knarr after doing research based on the reviews by other You Tubers including Chads review which seemed positive at the time. On the first launch I saw there were haul issues where were weak, the scraping of the deck when the seat moved back and forth and the decrecess the max weight. Here Hoping i didn't make a mistake.
one thing missing which is a hot topic, but it should have come with the two flush mounted rodholder, whoever does not like it, well they can ketch rod tube delete it
Nope. I disagree and I was the one that lobbied to NOT have them installed. If you want them you can install them. But they fill up with water and most people with a BlackPak will not use them, so it made more sense to leave them as an option for those that wanted them instead of making someone that didn’t try to figure out how to delete them, which still makes it difficult to put other things there like a YakAttack Mighty Mount XL
I disagree. There are also horizontal storage options on the kayak for rods, tons of tracks for rod holders and flush mounts are still an option if someone wants this and they are cheap. When you make them stock the price of the product and labor has to be factored into the cost, then marked up for retail and it’s not worth it in my opinion.
This boat is awesome, the very first mod I did to mine was switching out the position of the rod stager on the side of the seat. I learned that from a short you did about it. Lots of good info in this video that I'm gonna do also.
I plan on getting this kayak later this year and rigging it with a bow mount and FFS system. I wonder if I'll be able to achieve clean, thru hull wiring of everything, but still have everything removable. Austin's build might be closer to what I'm looking for. Love how customizable this thing is! Thanks for the walkthrough!
Great video, great knowledge, great build 👍 Just one question How much the total does it cost for all of this bout from a to z ? And are you able to copy it exactly and resale it to me ? Thank you so much
No. a shorter version of the PWR wouldn’t make sense. That’s pretty much the spot that SS127 or SS107 occupies and the platform for the PWR and the advantages that it offers would be tough to fit into a smaller platform. For a shorter boat that will serve all the needs of the PWR you are realistically looking at getting into the Native Propel 10 or Slayer Max 10.

Great job as always! Working on getting stuff for my 129. Health keeps kicking my but. Hope i can get out this fall.
Thanks Tim. I hope it all works out for you and your health improves quickly
Great mods and overall setup Chad. I’m still loving my Bonafide SS-127

What do you recommend for a cart for the PWR.
The YakAttack TowNStow Bunkster

Ever use the Ketch cart? I am trying to chose between the two. I like the takedown feature of the yak attack.

Is that ketch’s bow mount plate?
Yes
What's your top speed with that 1103 and that rear ketch mount?
6.2 to 6.5 depending on the gear load
What paddle do you use for that boat sir?
I use a couple different ones from Bending Branches. Primarily the Angler Pro Carbon
Where can I get the bow mount you have and is it ready to mount the xi3
Ketch Products
That is one cool kayak
Thanks
What your thoughts on the Jackson Knarr now?
Biggest miss in kayak fishing history.
It was a piece of Knarrbage then and still a piece of Knarrbage now. They should have put the new features they came up with on the Big Rig

Hey Chad.. Are you using anything to mount the battery inside the hull or is it something that sits in the bottom?
I just have it strapped to a small bulkhead with a YakAttack strap and sitting on the bottom
