SUCKS. Too Much work. I achieved the same exact thing with plastic PVC conduit gray pipe C -clamps. No drilling required I use the existing holes of the garage door brackets....!!!😮😢😊
That’s actually something I hadn’t even thought of. But after inspecting my rods I see zero signs of wear. The rods do have some wiggle room in the holders so if this was a concern then you could always slide the rods to rest on the pvc in different spots….if that makes sense
True. I do feel very fortunate to have been able to accumulate more and more tools over the last few years. But I find that a lot of creativity in woodworking and DIY projects in general comes from figuring out the execution of it all. I dare say this project can be made with very minimal, basic tools 👍
I think you should patent that and sell a kit that's has adjustable ends to Fit any garage door. Great job.

how far apart did you mount the couplings so the reels wont touch
They’re about 5 1/2 inches apart on center 👍

Are those garage door panels not aluminum?
My guess is no! Not aluminum! To be honest though, I don't know what they're made out of.
