Yes mate!! Great find! I'd like to see it go straight on the tracks from stock. Then go modest/legal mods and test against the 106 before you go bonkers with it 👌
Looks like a great find, mate! Would be cool to see a fairly mild build since you LN is already pretty off tap. Show how far one of these will go whilst still being fairly original and legal - 31's, lockers, some nice barwork/custom tray etc. Oh and maybe a EFI conversion with a sneaky snail hanging off the side 😂
I want my first car to be an ln106, paying homage to my older brother James who died a month ago. He had the sickest 106 I've ever seen. Built from bog stock to the sickest rig ever. I miss him and I want to do him proud so im gonna get a hilux
Really sorry to hear that Luke. That’s the best way to do it man, get a stock one and then build it up your way. I’m sure he will be proud of you! I’d love to see what you end up with 🤘🏻
Yeah I'm keen to see how it goes as a budget build and then later do a 3rz turbo swap on it would be wicked. That way you retain the ln106s 2.8 and can leave that a proper low range rock crawler! I've got an old ln106 single cab sitting in the backyard and a GQ patrol sitting on 37's and the more I watch these videos the more I want to dive into modifying the old 106 and take it rock crawling!
3rz could definitely be a reality for this Ute down the track. That’s the plan, keep the ln106 as it is because it just works so well and build this up a little differently. These little Utes are wicked capable in the technical stuff once built up. Just as fun to build in my opinion too
I'll be running my 106 till I hit the grave I reckon. And it'll still be going long after that. Love the old girl. The SR5 interior light is a good mod too.
Yeah I’ve heard that they get thirsty when you make the motor work for it. Since making the video I’ve used it a bit mainly for it’s huge tray and it’s surprised me how good it is on fuel, but then again it’s bloody light and the wheels are tiny 😅
Gday, my Hilux is an RN106, new long motor about 2 years ago and it’ll be good for bloody years, I had a 2.8 before this one and the power difference is night and day so is the fuel bill but I love the thing, top buy mate, cheers
Ready for another 400,000km’s! Noticed straight away the power difference, I’ve always been a fan of petrol 4wd’s over diesels. I like motors that can rev Keen to see how this one goes!
Nice man good to see an old petrol 4by something a little less common. Probably do some cheap mods like homemade bar work, ruf/ifs rears. Auto lokka. Will cost a little bit but be pretty capable. Keen to see what you do. I’ve gotta get myself an old solid axle hilux one day they are such a cool platform to build and so many parts available for them.
If budget build, put the lsd centre in the front with the rear auto lokka. I did it and haven't had problems with mine on over 10 years. Look forward to the new content.
Some ideas, make it look better by removing/replacing bullbar (that one is ugly and low) tray (head board is too high) sidesteps (no protection) wheels (ugly) seats (so you fit lol)
Would be sick to see a proper budget build, something that a first 4by owner could do, like have it for a daily but be able to take it to the beach and stuff
I would love nothing more than a budget build. Just bought a bone stock LN106 so I need some top tips from the expert himself!
Thanks James! Can’t really beat them for a simple but capable 4wd to build up.
You got yourself the greatest old school Lux that Toyota ever built. Which year did you get?
Super6 and auto conversion! Turn it into a long distace tourer
That would be different!
@@HaydnKamp all about gearing get it right, would be quite the good, power on demand down low, low rpm crusing speeds 👌
Yes mate!! Great find! I'd like to see it go straight on the tracks from stock. Then go modest/legal mods and test against the 106 before you go bonkers with it 👌
I’m very keen to get behind the wheel of a stock 4wd again. I reckon you can have just as much fun in a stock 4wd as a highly modded one 🤘🏻

Would be fun to push a basic setup and see how far I get take it. Ooooh turbo, now your talking!

They will outlast majority of new vehicles made today with how simple they are!
I’ll have to look into that hey! Cheers man 🤘🏻
Nice option petrol lux not mamy videos of these look forward to next video mate
i’ve had an rn105 for 5 years now can’t fault the old girl just a bit heavy on fuel when you start putting 33s on them 👌

Hey man, would love to see it vsing the Ln106.
Then do the same test on the small tyres but see if twin locked will affect it and how that compares..
Budget build for sure
Yes build between you and Kyle budget rock crawler
Was one of the first things that jumped to mind, would be very entertaining 😅
Awesome Ute .
Trailer queen comp rig, winch and team events
Has been on my mind

Yeah could kick it off real simple and keep a low budget. They are a great 4wd to build up. Super simple and doesn’t take much to be a capable Ute

Can’t fault the auto Lokka’s in the rear, got one in the Ln106 and love it. Lsd front is smart for a cheap option. At least it’ll still steer
@@HaydnKamp mine still steers well.

bullbar (that one is ugly and low)

sidesteps (no protection)

seats (so you fit lol)
Those are all definitely on the job card and will be sorted 🤘🏻
I’m in the process of saving and collecting parts to build my rn 105 like your ln106 👍
You’ll have to flick a few piccys through Instagram. I’d love to see it 🤘🏻
@@HaydnKamp I will do for sure
Would be sick to see a proper budget build, something that a first 4by owner could do, like have it for a daily but be able to take it to the beach and stuff
A good first all rounder
V6 conversion 👍👍👍
Lightweight Ute with some power would be fun. N/A 1gr-fe might fit 😅
@@HaydnKamp1uz fits perfectly and they’re cheap
Keen for the build 👍
Put a turbo kit on it
Turbo gods motor
Is that a seperate bullbar and bumper 😅
Sure is, she’s a beauty ain’t it 😅
you should see how it goes stock and then do a biget build on it ans make it all as cheap as u can and also so it is legal too
budget **
Definitely keen to see how it goes stock, I like the cheap build idea
Turbo 3rz . Sudanese sand sled make it a beach dune bus
Turbo 3RZ is definitely something I’d love to do
Buy a 1uz or 3rz for it for cheap, do basic stuff like rear springs up front and ifs rears, make it a dune bus
I like the idea of a turbo 3RZ
Heres a massive challenge, covert it to efi
Could be on the cards
@@HaydnKamp would be pretty sick to see 😁
Not that hard, there was a 22RE in the US so there are efi manifolds etc for them.
Prerunner
Never attempted anything like that before, would be wicked to drive too
Turbo the RN 😂
I got a feeling this Ute will have a turbo hanging off something eventually. I’m not sure what motor tho 😅
