I only paid 10 euros for a game three years ago what I am still playing to this day with friends. With free fantastic updates without ruining the game. These are some incredible creative developers which manage to not be intimidated with all the complaining people that it's not going fast enough. It feels very real, you can decide not to venture into the world but just build and hang around. But at some point when you run out of goods, you need to get back into the wilderness. They should be proud.
I'd agree with this. Even if valheim remained as it was back in 2021 when i first bought it i'd say that it was well worth the 10 euro price tag simply because of how polished and bug free it was despite being an early access game.
Here was the two main things for me with the early release: 1) For the price point, it was worth it from the very beginning. They actually could've just called it a full release with the plains being the last biome and it would've still been an amazing game. 2) The building is very easy, satisfying, and diverse. This unleashes the creative itch for those who like to build.
And for my most crazy and hairbrained idea...have a DLC after the 1.0 where you make a portal that Odin lets you use to revive in the "real" world (albeit still fantasy setting) and start going Viking all over the place.
There is no need to guess, the devs said in an interview that the Deep North isn't even in production, they're still making sketches and shit on paper, 0 code or assets have been made. The 1.0 update isn't coming out until mid to late 2026. That being said, notoriously slow development and bla bla - it's still a top 3 game of all time to me!
Devopment was slowed down ridiculously because of the initial global popularity causing an excessive amount of bugs to be discovered. The devs has to go into full blown damage control mode to fix game breaking bugs and put content development on the back burner. Its been nothing but common knowledge since 2021
I have gotten 10x my value out of the game. When I bought it on a black Friday sale in 2023 it had a note explaining, that I'm buying the game, "As is." I view ashlands and the recent update as more than I paid for. I hope they finish it in the next year or so. But if not, I'm controversially happy anyway.
I hope they decide to ad expansion content later.. they deserve to make some more profits.. the game is a massive success and i think it would be a good way to draw in people over the years
I bought the game in it's first week of release because I saw a you-tuber talk about it and it looked fun. I have thousands of hours in now and definitely got my moneys worth. It's one of the best games I have ever played.
Draugers who pilot their own long ships and try to smash into you while your sailing would be sweet. And if you could have other human NPC companions to guard your village would be sweet.
I would class the dwarves in the Ashland's and mistlands as NPC's so can see them adding one to the plains and mountains but not the other two. I'd like to see an NPC on the ocean, on a floating dock where you can modify your boat!
More like in 2035. Truly one of the best games i ever played, and it's worth every penny, but the development speed is beyond snail pace at this point.
Yea I don't get why they never bothered to expand their team when they initially made over a dozen million the first month of early access on steam. They said it's because they want their vision to stay true and be what they'd like it to be, but that's bullshit, you can hire and pay people to work on what YOUR vision is to accelerate, honestly just think they're greedy sometimes.
From what I have seen Hildir always seems to spawn in a Meadows area that borders a Plains area, so it will be further out than the starting Meadows areas. I have sunk thousands of hours into this game and think it is my favourite game. Personally I think there is a difference between the full release of 1.0 ("Deep North") and when the game will be "finished". I hope 1.0 will be towards the end of 2025, but I also think the devs have a list of tweaks and improvements to polish it off, which will happen after that. I think it all depends on where they put their focus - releasing the Deep North or the various minor updates and improvements.
Maybe in ten years it'll be considered complete but until then they got a long road ahead for the developers. Hope they stay committed and dedicated to valheim it has much potential.
I played in 2021 around release and during the height. I recently started playing again. I havent played the mistlands and am looking forward to all the new stuff. The crafting layers and complexity is a nice addition
It’s not that it’s a bad game by any stretch. But the devs have gone adrift. It’s absurd for to take this long for a game to leave early access I know they enjoy sipping coffee and being rich but there is work to be done.
Problem with ocean fishing is can't do it without sea serpent trophies. The drop rate on that is terrible and it sinks so if you kill it in the actual ocean you lose it.
As of now there are no plans for any new NPCs :) Quote by Smiffe: "it will be out when it's out 🙂no planned NPC's (traders) for mountains and plains (atm) " which was reply to: "Any idea if you guys will get the game towards 1.0 next year? It has been a while... 4 years to be exact, soon. Also any plans to add an NPC in mountains and plains? Looks like you are adding a NPC slowly on each biome, hence my second question." And i would assume that extends to all other biomes without NPC traders (at least for now)
Over 1600 hours of fun for 40 Euros (bought it twice, one for me and one as a gift), if that is not telling something about how amazing this game is, then nothing will. I hope for at least two more updates like the bog witch (that was really great!) before deep north biome. Hopefully they will keep on maintaining and adding minor things after 1.0.
They took a lot of time telling us that the new update Deep North will be a ‘Christmas card’ I would bet that we are looking at a winter 2025 release with maybe stuff after 1.0 and I would guess maybe smaller Bog Witch type updates sprinkled from now to then
I feel like Valheim is doing great things with their Bioms, however they desperately need to add some connecting content. There is rarely any interaction between the Bioms resources. There is a big lack of kinda basic customization. It really feels like after finishing the last Biome they just need to get to that part. I understand why dev is slow. Team is small and the updates with the updates are quite big.
Mistlands and Ashlands need a balance pass for sure. Starred Seekers hit like a truck even if you parry and the Magma blobs in Ashlands exists just to annoy players and force to place portals in some ridiculous places so it wont fart and destroy like an hour work. Also the terrain on Mistlands could be just a little less oppressive. Even Mountain is much easier to climb and navigate. As for the 'finishing' the game, I doubt it will ever be. The speed of the current development and additional split of the teams to create the board game maybe 50 people will buy just to add an NPC with few items and at the same time breaking popular community mods just pisses people off. At least the game is good and content rich for itself.
Love the game, only started playing a month or so ago, and me and the wife have been hooked ever since. If nothing more was ever added to the game, I'd still consider it "complete" at this point given how much stuff is in it. That being said, what I would like to see in either official updates or mods: The ability to revive downed players - respawning without any items and having to rush back to battle totally nekkid because you don't have room to carry backup equipment and pick up your old stuff? Tedious. Alternatively, separate equipment slots so that you can have the option to respawn with currently-equipped items, losing only your carried inventory... or a little magical shrine for reviving so you don't have to place beds in weird places. Better fishing progression - I've acquired a fishing rod and bait... I have a huge hall, multiple portals, bronze weapons and armour, but my character doesn't know how to simply cook a fish until I get iron? That's silly. Control over dedicated server data rate - hosting a server on a fibre connection, everyone (including the host) gets lag when it's just 4-5 of us. Blueprints! I'm the kind of OCD person who likes to come up with standard optimal designs for everything, and I would love to be able to slap down a blueprint for a given pre-designed build, then have people simply run up to it and deposit the required resources. And yes, some ocean updates and new NPCs would be nice. On a final note, anyone who likes Valheim should check out Abiotic Factor. Similarly impressive feature-filled survival game, but instead of Viking purgatory, it's Half-Life 1 but you're a scientist with office supplies instead of a crowbar.
I love the idea of adding more NPC's to their respective biome, though that raises more questions.. what kind of service would they provide? I cant really think of more items being available for sale, atleast something that's is worth my gold (since every NPC are merchants). Maybe they should bring some other kind of service to the additional NPC's? Buying already tamed animals? one use portal to a destination on the map?
I'd be happy with some vendors selling higher tier versions of other vendors items. Megingjord mk 2 with higher capacity. Turkey eggs. Better fishing rod or maybe even fishing troll-stuff (not as in the creature troll, but as in an attachment to the boat to fish while you sail). I also wouldn't mind if a vendor sold items for progression, i.e. a cape which can withstand the cold of deep north or something like that.
@@eveneveneveneven Yeah the Megingjord mk 2 is a really good idea!! I really think they will add more elements and additions to sailing, since (lets be honest) its pretty boring to be sailing for 20+ minutes.. it would be super nice to have more things to be occupied with doing while sailing..
@@eveneveneveneven While I like the idea of a Megingjord v.2, I think with the new troll endurance potion, they've likeh "solved "that problem to their satisfaction. I could see expanding Ashlands weapon gem modifications into earlier biomes with lesser strength/powered gems.
no it won't, devs still have to finish two biomes updates, and they usually do one biome per year, and after that there are a lot of stuff to add, like quests, custimization etc.
Why is this a problem? Minecraft took literally ages and it is not even now finished, yet is one of the most popular survival games ever. Whether Valheim is finished in a year or five, it doesn't make it less entertaining or hard to play.
I really hope they give the ocean some more love, it feels to empty for me now. Sailing have been one of the fuew booring activeties for me, otherwise Valheim is a fantastic game and i cant wait for future updates😁
What is making you struggle with it? Do you not find it engaging enough, or is it too difficult? If it is engagement, building is key to unlocking a whole new way of looking at the game - change your perspective from building a functional shack you can survive in, to planning and building a great looking manor house that you want to show off to your friends. If it is difficulty or challenge, you can tweak that in the Customise World settings. If it is mechanics, post the issue and see if someone can help with it. Also, try and find someone else to play with you. Making Valheim a co-op venture isn't vital, but it really does make it more fun!
Valhiem will not be finished in 2025. At the moment they are only in the skecthing stage of Deep north and considering it took 18 months for ashlands to release after Mistlands it's not gonna be finished next year. I'm a massive fan of the game and early supporter since 2018 in the first alpha gameplay but the development is very very slow.
I'd generally agree that most of the fun is in the first 5 biomes (Plains included). Mistlands - it depends on the map generation. On the whole I like Mistlands, but they can become cumbersome with unlucky map generation. Have not been to Ashlands yet, but from what I have seen on YT, I already dislike that place.

LOL, Valheim sucks. It needs a complete redesign of controls, UI, bow game, crafting, rebalancing of skills and weapons. Right now, half of the content is totally useless and everyone just skip it, e.g: - knives are useful for about 20 minutes before you get more damage from other weapons, despite x6 backstab modifier - sneak on the lowest level is enough for any use - each biome is just repeating the same gameplay from scratch with slightly different visuals - everyone favouring speed uses same set of armour, everyone favouring defence uses same set of armour (functionally, there are 2 armour sets, that's it) - progression is just silly, like the need for iron to make a bow (visual design of the later bows sucks as well), or obsidian being harder than iron (deals more damage? seriously? it's glass) - late gameplay is totally uninspired, so everything gets explained with magic, because reasons - gamepad support is so rudimentary it hurts (try navigating that hotbar XD, or just moving the camera, they didn't even bother to make radial menus) These are only a few examples from the top of my head.
