I super appreciate how well this is all designed. "Programmer art" is usually the barest of bare minimum, purely functional, and generally looks shitty. This is the total opposite. There's all these small details that make it look so polished. -Subtle drop shadows under text. -The "Stroke #" being offset vertically from the oval under it. -The scorecard having the opacity dropped for the "Hole #" row, which separates it from the opaque row below it. - The "Hole #/Par #" in the top left has a light gradient towards the middle of the screen - All the horizontal white separating lines, being squared off on the left, rounded on the right, with a dot off the rounded edge. -Droplet particle effect, and ripple when the ball entered the water -The club heads have lines on the faces, and there's no reason the back of the putter had to be modeled that well. -Hell, the WHOLE ASS course environment itself is awesome. The craziest thing to me is that the entire aesthetic meshes together, nothing is outta place and it's all coherent design. To have that be for the demonstration of some procedural animation is bonkers. Good shit dude.
I'm very happy that these little details haven't gone unnoticed. It took a while to model the courses / 2d graphics and I'm quite proud of the way it turned out
@@nikilragavThe 6 courses shown took about 50 hours to model and put together. The AI took much longer then that but I wasnt at the computer for most it. I have a few code files I use for animations and AI training that are reused from previous projects
Reminds me of a puzzle from the professor layton games. "A professional golfer can put the same distance every time provided that distance is 11 inches, 4 inches, or 2 inches". And now we've met his brother, who can reliably put at a 45 degree angle every time.
While your videos are always technically brilliant, you have also brought great artistry on this one. This genuinely looks like a polished production ready game.
Hole 1: Pretty good. Hole 2: He has no style. He has no grace. This Kong has a funny face. Hole 3: That's rough, buddy. Hole 4: So close, yet so far away. Twice. Hole 5: Is... is the AI okay? It seems to be having a stroke.
I noticed that the distances seemed off when I made this. I used exact measurements from the ball to the centre of the pin for the distances, even flattened the coordinates out so that it would just be horizontal distance, but for some reason the distances always seemed too big. I verified all the measurements and the ragdoll is still 6 feet tall. I'm not sure what the problem is. I think the scale of the hole and the ball throws off our perception a bit
love your content, I definitely enjoy your commentary a lot. it seemed like more of a footage based video, great content. when it ended though, I was wondering if you were going to coment on the ai's skill, or perharps its interesting putting technique of hitting a ghost ball and pulling the follow through to barely tap real ball. really good stuff, i just miss your commentary :)
I love that this has essentially become a relatively simple golfing game with an AI for RNG. Clearly more games need AIs like this. Just imagine an Xcom like game where you and the AI try to order around AI soldiers and these AI soldiers first have to learn how to walk and aim a gun.
Unlike proper golf games like pga, this really recreates the experience of going to the course yourself… and then shanking the ball 6 times in a row. Fantastic work!
I would be delighted to play this on steam. As others have pointed out, the aesthetic is quite pleasing. You've done a great job with not just the golf course but the graphics as well.
I filled up a bathtub all the way and dropped an actual golf ball into it, spilling water onto the roof and shorting 3 appliances. It's about as genuine as a sound effect gets
I got some ideas Table tennis part 2: the AI can have a bit more choice on where to hit the ball and attempt to make it harder for the other one to hit Dodge ball (no explanation needed) Football would be funny also try giving them some control on the running part and tackling part make the awarded for running towards the person running the ball and tackling Also make them try to follow a specific person
Good lord, what's going on in here. This is the most impressive thing I've seen in a while. Love the maths breakdowns from the other videos. You deserve all the praise you get!

AI Plays A Round Of Golf but he can actually stand and not lose balance after hitting the golf ball
You have successfully recreated the uncontrollable chaos of motion control Wii Sports golf, without using motion controls.
It was certainly controllable. Like 1% more controllable than this ai
I think $950 is a reasonable ask for a AAA ragdoll AI game.

literal "strokes"
@@whitneysmiltank i hate that i actually laughed at this comment
At 9:35 if anybody was wondering
I like how you've adapted this into a legit golfing game experience, with the camera work and everything.
It just needs the Wii golf sound effects (or a legally distinct facsimile of them) and it would be perfection.
Even the hidden shortcut at around 7:00

Every Stroke was litterally a stroke for the poor fella😢
the fact that it says "stroke" after every shot is just funny as the ai has a stroke every shot
i do not know if you are joking or not
but a shot in golf is also called a stroke.
I... don't know
if the ai has a stroke every shot and gets a stroke every time, then it's a joke
Time to see who is better: me or ragdoll
edit: also i love the wii style spin on this
that's a bathtub splash if I've ever heard one
The hit at 6:50 is insane
A stroke of genius, one might say
I love it! They should make more cool features like that on golf courses!
@@MrGourd Yess, and while we're at it, maybe shrink a bit the course coz it's a bit too big. And add a windmill /j
and then the hit immediately after is just ripe with disappointment
I wonder how many tries it actualy took to get that footage.
Engaging for engagement to play the analysis game because when I tell you I’ve been ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THIS UPDATE!! 🎉
I was super excited to finally get it out
My grandma plays golf the same way
Well she plays the same I do then.
Your grandmother should stop playing golf if she’s having a freaking stroke every shot, but what do I know.

3:35 was hilarious, accidentally hit the ball twice on am easy put then you immediately get a longer put to finish off instead

I laughed so hard reading "Stroke 3" to mean that the ragdoll had collapsed due to having a stroke 3 times so far. 🤣

All two of them
im convinced "stroke" doesnt refer to the actual golf stroke, but rather the ai's uh.... lets call it "technique"
