@@athenasatheneum If you liked Comfort Me With Apples, you might like The Past is Red by the same author. It's not gothic, but it's still dark, and the MCs inner voice is very distinct like in CMWA. It's a bleak post-apocalyptic novella that's balanced out by the MCs bizarre, overbearing optimism. Smart, sad, and ironic
Awesome recs!! I've been lovingggg gothic tales lately. A good combo of the romantic-academia vibes with the spookiness of fall! I'd second the recommendation for Carmilla, it's a super fun, short, vibey story!! It definitely hits all the key points of gothic lit without being a huge commitment!
Some of my own additions that I’d like to recommend to you as a gothic literature die hard The yellow wallpaper The bloody chamber Wuthering heights (BEST BOOK BY THE BRONTES) THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY NOT BEING IN A GOTHIC LITERATURE VIDEO IS CONSIDERED CRIMINAL! 😭
Omg yes I loooove the yellow wallpaper. The bloody chamber I’ve seen the cover, but haven’t gotten around to (I’ll bump this up the tbr). DORIAN I AM 7 CHAPTERS IN BUT IT FELT TOO SOON TO BRING IT UP. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it though
I’m currently reading Affinity by Sarah Waters (only 1/8 through) and it seems to fit the gothic theme. It takes place in 1870s in a women’s prison. A woman is serving a prison sentence for a tragedy that occurred while conducting a seance. Very moody and descriptive.
Gothic lit is also one of my fav genres!! Love this
It's so good!
Omg I have been WAITING to find someone who just *gets* my taste in books. So glad I found you while your channel is still so young! 💕
I couldn’t agree with this comment more!
We LOVE your reading recs!!🫶
yay! another gothic lit lover. Any new books you've read recently that you would recommend?
@@clarissadesantiago5187 aw thank you
