Isabella S - It's about growth. You growing as a person and expanding your capacity to do things and deal with new situations profitably. The first way is to apply the collected wisdom of the past, rules of thumb, religions, ideologies, political parties, etc. The second way is to release the power of your conscience, your inborn capacity, and carefully listen to what your "potential totality" is telling you - "this is a problem I will keep bugging you about that you have to deal with in order to grow further" - when the collected wisdom of the past, rules of thumb, etc., cannot help you in a new situation.
I wish we could all find eloquence written, apparently, on ceiling tiles! When JBP starts gazing upward, something great follows. Also, there are apparently 11 sad soulless human beings who thumbed down.
At 6:40, you mention the Egyptian Horus concerning one person being the eyes of his culture. It would be interesting if you hosted some lectures with a Greek classicist (for instance) who can impart some ancient wisdom and stories that illuminates the modern condition. A classicist named Victor Davis Hanson provides those anecdotes to illuminate modern political events.

Please tell me why "growing as a person" is important. Make your arguments relevant. We've been duped into believing self-improvement is important but in the grand scheme of things, it is not. There is no improvement, there cannot be. There is only change...
Why can't there be improvement? If I for example can only do 1 push-up, but I train everyday and eventually I can do 20 after 2 weeks of training, it's improvement. Same goes for things like talking to people. If you can't due to social anxiety, but force yourself to do so at least once a day, it will become easier for you. So how isn't that improvement? Of course anything just changes by time, but by putting in conscious effort you can improve rather than just being changed by time without having control over it.
@@thorbengellesch959 If you grow as a person you can face the challenges of life more easily, for example you could know how to manage conflicts with your wife which can lead to a better relationship satisaction, or how to be patient in achieving goals, and many such important skills arise everywhere. Growing as a person leads to a better life satisfaction, therefore it should be important to you.
Words can't explain how phenomenal this lecture is!
I watched Pinocchio with different set of eyes...It was so empowering. Dr. J Peterson is G.O.A.T

This is not the official Jordan Peterson channel, you should ask such questions there.

In general there is only change. As an individual we are able to deem what is good and what is bad. Why not “grow as a person”?
@@meowster2 Follow your unconscious drives. It is the adventure of living. Take care and have a splendid life!
Change and improvement are not mutually exclusive.
