10 years of heroin addiction, 3 years of physical alcohol dependence and addiction really humbled me. I've been clean and sober for 2 years off heroin. 4 months off alcohol now and I am eating better exercising. Taking care of my physical and mental health has be feeling better than ever. Wish I could have learned the humility and great life lessons that I did from that suffering without all the suffering but it didn't turn out that way. Jordan your teachings philosophies have really been a big part of my rehabilitation and reorientation. Thanks so much for what you do Jordan and I would love to share my story and help others do similar.

As a social hermit, with friends I rarely speak to, I needed someone like him who won't put me down for trying to be better. Even if it means I have to put my ego aside and take child-like steps. I have lost touch with who I am, and if I'm worth anything. I will be better today than I was yesterday, and not compare to anyone else.

In those moments as I'm lying on the floor in physical pain I choose to inflict upon myself is where my soul is. The new me is fit. Self aware and driven to succeed. Is it making me stronger or weaker?
Is it filling me with shame?
Is it filling me with confidence?

Am I adopting this personality at parties that is designed to impress and amuse and comes across as nothing but self-centered and narcissism?

What is it that I’m willing to do?

@@Dany-zf9bk It means we take things about ourselves for granted, like thinking that you're a nice person, that you're honest and caring, without really questioning if we are as great as we think we are.
A specific example for me would be confidence. As a big fish in a small pond, you would naturally feel very sure of yourself and confident. But as soon as you step out of your comfort zone and your "bubble", you might realize that your level of confidence was dependent on your environment being simple and stale. That's one of the things I realized about myself recently, I've grown too big for my fishbowl.

The fact that you’re still alive to type this means a lot of good can still happen in your life! Whatever has happened in your life can be useful for you if you channel all of you into God. He’s right there with you. He made you. Just turn to Him in your heart and connect with Him. Acknowledge Him and tell Him your fears and cares. Ask for His help and guidance. He’ll help you massively. 🙏

One of the most important things with growing is first choosing your center / foundation. Because you can try to learn who you are and try to grow, but unless you have a firm foundation upon which to build and a center upon which to lean on during the hard time, you'll likely see many of your efforts toppled.
Additionally, a foundation / center isn't something someone "discovers" about themselves. It is indeed a conscious choice. And some foundations are stronger than others.

Me too. 4 years of taxes. My husband used to do it. He developed frontotemporal dementia and recently died. I simply didn't have the brain power or the courage to face that mess. I've been overwhelmed.
I've been listening to these recordings for a several months now. I've listened to at least one lecture a day.. Sometimes many..
      The taxes were my "elevator."
To face my terror of the damn taxes. I started with simply opening the cardboard boxes of receipts. I'd just look inside and then close the box. Eventually I could take some out and really look at them. Then I could take a few out of the box and sort/categorize them.
      My courage grew exponentially.
Two weeks ago I met with my accountant and got all 4 years filed. The relief I feel at finally having this frightening responsibility completed cannot be overstated.
I credit J. Peterson for getting me through this.

His words have monumentally changed many and will continue to do so. He has given so many courage to tackle obstacles that has petrified them throughout their lives. Dr. Peterson definately makes us and the world a better being/a better place . He is so needed, his words are liberating ... Do you mean conventional education? Or do you mean he's just super smart and reads a lot and engages other smart people and actually listens and has a great ability to understand and think. I am always impressed with his ability to understand and describe things. I also respect how sometimes he just flat out pauses to think about how he is going to speak his next sentence. Too many people try to fill the silence with fodder and loose my attention. I don't mind waiting a few seconds for a better statement.
