After fleet races to choose the two fastest boats for a final match race the wind dies and the race is abandoned. But instead of postponing the climactic race to the next day an arbitrary winner is chosen. That’s not a regatta. It’s a travesty.
It is an advertising and exposure exercise and they didn’t miss their target audience slot…..advertisers got screen time while we wait or watch reruns. The thin facade of this even being a sailing event unfortunately is perforated with power units and autopilots sprinkled with pretty logos of corporate egos. But then again, they did slap that Americas cup sticker on them🤣
Adding Tom Slingsby to any team is likely to make a significant difference, given that he’s almost certainly the best helmsman in foiling boats based on his results in SailGP.
So very unfortunate that the traditional monóhull boats (specifically, the non-hydrofoil type with a keel that actually sails in the water) have been replaced. When the news and announcers repeatedly compare the America's Cup to watching Formula One Racing, you know the spirit of the sport has been lost. It's more about changes in technology rather than a loyalty to what most of us know as sailing. Such ashame! To cancel a race because of light wind is ridiculous!!!
@@samc.6639 Oh don't get me wrong, it's fun to watch, but just not sailing, and thus should not be the boat of choice in the America's Cup. At least add another category- non-foil boats to keep with the tradition. Ha, water is the enemy of these foil boats. They need to be out of it to achieve those speeds. (they're dead in the water). Don't know if I'm watching an air or water sport. It use to be a race that celebrated all sailors. Now it's solely about the money and a self- appointed élite group that celebrates & has resulted in a vehicle most sailors, even those with 30 years of experience can't operate!
It’s always been about money, and it’s always been the fastest boat that wins. You can have the best sailing team in the world, but if you don’t have the best there’s no hope. Similar to F1 in that sense
The AC has traditionally been a rich man’s event, wealthy privateers form the bulk of successful teams through its history. If anything the current rules have tried to level the playing field with restrictions on number of new AC75’s (one per team), masts from one manufacturer, number of foil sets allowable etc. These AC 40’s are a great move to include women’s and youth crews for a reasonable cost. As for the sailing, the tactics are essentially the same, just happening faster. The old J class are the most beautiful boats but I wouldn’t want to watch that as a cup boat now. They would also be hideously expensive especially with the huge crew numbers. The other issue is all the upcoming young sailors want to foil and go fast so as time goes by it’s likely to become the norm as it’ll be what they know. You can’t undo technology as the saying goes.
I have to say the AC 40's are not my idea of competitive sailing, push. a button for this that and the other, need a tow to get going. it's all gone south, it's not sailing in a true form.
Living in New Zealand 🇳🇿 Spain 🇪🇸 kia ora Team NZ. Peter Burling Blair Tuke The Entire Crew. Kia Kaha

Right? I was so annoyed.

@@Teeh608 It is just an AC40 regatta. The AC75 America's cup will not be like this, there they will have to race the next day.
@@vsstdtbs3705 Yea, I know. Still really unsatisfying
I can’t believe it’s taken this long for a syndicate to get Slingsby as their skipper. He’s been the best on foils for years.
Why can't he get Australian backing. We have enough wealthy people to fund it.
I'm confused - there is a boat with a British flag following the others around - is that a spectator boat ? Should it be on the course ?
Umpires boat
Sandbagging…..I hope!
What, you mean INEOS? 😉
hehehe.....🤣
I was expecting another 45 second highlight video
And American Magic surprises everyone. Hey it might be time to bring the Cup back to the States! Long way to go though

Ooh look, Ineos are last...at least you can say they are consistent !!
Don’t worry, Sir Ben Complainslie will come up with an excuse that’s not his fault again. 😂
Are they actually crewed?
Beautiful race
10:51 moment is remarkable
How bad are INEOS Britannia???
How good is American Majic?
NZL with two touchdowns but still 2nd in race 5!!! A lot of stuff the other teams, except American Magic, have to think about...
J' aimerais voir un tableau des passages de la ligne de départ. Delta vitesse & distance/1er!.

Watch something else then. Plenty of traditional sailing races to watch. This is the pinnacle of technology and sailing, and it’s fantastic.
😂😂😂😂

GBR.......talent is there, boat is there, what about controlling the boat, so what is the peroblem?

It's so annoying how they say the ENTIRE team name every single time. I'm not a sailboat person, just someone who thinks this is really cool!
What a farken joke of a location..suppose money can't buy everything..
It is a great location, pleased Spain got some rain after a long drought, just so happened regatta weekend.
Money won at the end of the day, blame Grant for this shite show,
😂
Luna rossa Prada Pirelli troppo lenta.
the name is too long, weighing them down
