Alinghi Red Bull Racing came back from the brink and keeps the dream alive for the Swiss. What an amazing performance! Congratulations to the entire crew, the support team, the sponsors and last but not least, Ernesto Bertarelli, the driving force behind the name Alinghi.
Position might change in race? And in that icon picture you have little idea if its up wind or down wind or from what angle the picture was taken. If it was a picture of them crossing the finish line i would understand your vexation. Just click to watch “Day 6 race 20” like everyone else and don’t scrutinise the thumbnail.
Seriously bad news for the French. Boy, will the Swiss be relieved. Americans and Brits both have fast boats but both are making far too many mistakes. Strange for two such experienced crews.
Please don't interrupt an epic tacking duel to talk to the coach boat. Talking to the coaches in between quarters in American Football works because there are so many stopages in play and they have to break it up. But sailing isnt like that, so when theres good action on the water, please dont interrupt it to stick to your formula
Who is running your social media? Why on earth would they show the result in the thumbnail. Why watch when the excitement is taken away. You need a new social media manager/company
I really miss the old-style AC Class yachts? Classic battles before the gun, tack-for-tack lee bows, kite hoists, gybe sets, spinnaker peels, crew work was as important as boat speed (you could see the crew). Yer I understand that this is all about bang-for-buck for the sponsors dollars, so appealing to a wide variety of people is key - but where's all this headed as its like watching remote control yachts on a lake ? I rarely stay awake for a full race (which don't take long) whereas I have watched some of the epic AC Class battles probably 30 times .. Russel, Dean, Ed, Jimmy etc were like Gladiators and you felt a part of the battle. Then there's masterminds like Brad Butterworth who could almost predict the future .. it was so much more human and I SO miss it ?
NYCC AM is a cluster of errors. They’ve never sorted their boat or strategy. One race or two races they look good then boom, another Charley Foxtrot. Looks like they have the boat power to compete but they’re lacking in almost everything else.
So when there is a start penalty (75m) why does the none P boat just drop behind and not allow the P boat the drop back? Only thing to be mindful of is the time limit to complete course i suppose.
The discovery of AMs hydraulic power deficit on leg 4 will be keenly exploited by other teams. This is not the first race when the recumbent cyclors have been in evident metabolic distress on the coms. That physiological limit was reached after an upwind tacking duel on leg 3 in lighter airs. If any team is ahead of AM they will replicate this strategy that diminshes AMs capacity as the chasing boat. ?were cyclors fresh. Won't be systems error as has occurred on multiple days. Light, shifting air requires more juice for trimming. Sad realisation for this team but a hard variable to model accurately in the design phase. I feel sorry for the AM cyclors, their suffering is hidden, they can't see the race, but they can see the sails fail to trim while being next to frustrated flight controllers. It is a stark disparity of roles, it meets design principles but the trade-off loss of power contains the crucial spare capacity for match-racing, and these races have much less duelling than the displacement monohull AC matches. AM will be praying for more wind.
Boat that wins the start in these so called yachts will win the race all things being equal. Very boring! I feel sorry for the cyclors as they don't see the race and have no or little input, work their butts off, and just a beer at the finish, if they're lucky. Would be much better to have a small Yanmar pumping oil or go back to the old system of coffee grinders and sheet tailors. Seems they also need to raise the race minimum wind speed. One splash down and its curtains. Don't start me on the rules, must have been written by a NASCAR steward, not by a sailor. The starting proceedure is also very stupid.
The boat entering on the starboard side (right-hand) has the right-of-way... that's why she has to enter 10s later, so this advantage is not used and also to enforce safety
Alinghi made a really good Job! If they trim the boat right then it looks the boat is fast! Congrats😊

Could you please stop showing the result of the course in the video's icon, it is very annoying to know the result before watching the video.
Ohh poor darling i bet it really hurts

That's how you do it Alinghi!!! Keep going :)
Please stop putting the results in the thumbnail, it's happened in at least 3 videos now and really spoils it!
Go have a cry

I've got an idea, let's use a thumbnail that shows the race number and the date without the results.
done

Can you please include the post-race interviews in these videos?? It seems bizarre they're omitted.
USA needs to work on the software. Horrible job at keeping VMG up. several times they gave up huge amounts of time just sailing the wrong course.

@24:38 That was a hard but great race by Alinghi Red Bull Racing! The Swiss Navy did a great job!👴😁👌
Finally we can see something of real Alinghi

I love hearing Tom Slingsby losing his temper and being a cry baby.
Cruel to the AM cyclors - looks like it wasn’t such a great idea after all
Did American Magic miss here that 10% of power of laying out the cyclors in a reclining position?
Do the rules allow for changing cyclors for a second race in the same day? If so, why did American Magic not do that?
please explain the entry penalty!
Why is one team allowed into the start box before the other?
please put sum wind stats on screen for the love of god.
Alinghi: Still 5% to slow against KiWi, comparing wind velocity against boat speed.
Hilarious, Lester: left side high pressure. 2 seconds later...Ashby (legend): I see the Americans ripping up the right

What does that gain though if they both just keep slowing down? Until they're stopped?

It's obvious to me that you are an a$$hole.
don't stop? or stop?
So many mistakes with American Magic. Disappointing, to say the least.
Seeing as this is now a cycle race, please can you share more views of the cyclist wattage to pump oil?
ridiculous, early entry penalty, not yacht racing.
Stop comments then!

Who the Freak cares when they enter the start area. Can't that be part of the start strategy? Just stupid. Needs to change next time.

Biden/Harris on the water!
🤣
