    Great UA-cam, I love the troubleshooting part, sure beats guessing. I ordered an amazon fuel pump, it was the exact part number (149-2620), same as yours but it didn't fit. It was a little shorter and the output didn't line up with the hole. So, I bought an Edelbrock 3.5 psi micro fuel pump. made a bracket and mounted in the general area, I didn't want to wait for another amazon pump that wouln't fit and didn't want to pay $350 for one from my local generator shop. The Edelbrock works great but the mounting wings were too big to use the original mounting holes so I made a bracket, I love your discussion on fuel line debris so I bought a new fuel line ($4.00) in retrospect, I would always replace hoses when I can, they get hard and brittle.

    Finally! I had read that these fuel pumps go bad but yours is the first video I have found to complete reasonable trouble shooting and then actually fixing the issue. Thank you! Now if I could just figure out how to get that rear spark plug out, damn they wedged that thing in there.

      Yes you need a skinny arm. And that fuel pump is still working that i put in.

      @@ktoutdoor Good morning Kevin, I wanted to update you and your viewers on my Onan situation. I have a model 5.5HGJAB -6755K installed in our 2015 Momentum 350M. Like you, I was fuel starved and couldn't figure out why. Your video helped me a lot w/ trouble shooting. I replaced the fuel pump and filter (on my model year they moved the filter and it attaches directly to the pump on the input side...much like the modification you did on yours). Unfortunately, that did not fix my issue, it still shutdown un-commanded.
      I got the idea to run a fuel line from the input side of the fuel filter directly to a gas can from another video; in trying that I confirmed that the genset ran fine. Therefore , fuel filter pump and carb were all eliminated as culprits. I also confirmed there was little to know fuel coming from the fuel line when I detached it from the filter. At this point I was thinking a blockage in the line and or the tank and my next step was to replace the line, but first I used my air compressor to blow out the line from the end that connects to the filter...using less than 50 psi, the rated psi of the fuel line.
      When I blew out the line I found a hole in the line fairly close to the tank where it traverses a frame members. Likely caused any abrasion. Just like trying to suck soda out of a glass w/ a cracked straw, the pump could not pull adequate fuel from the tank w/ a hole in the line. I repaired the hole w/ a male to male brass barbed nipple and I'm back up and running. I needed to replace the fuel filter anyway and the pump was not that expensive...and now I have a spare but I did want to put this out as another possible cause of fuel starvation. Quick additional note, my unit has what is called a "purge line" another fuel line that runs from the genset all the way back to the tank. I'm not completely certain of the purpose but when you are tracing your fuel line you may need to ensure you are tracing the correct one back to the two separate attachment points on the tank. Again, thank you for the video and trouble shooting techniques, learned a lot!

      @@acampbell198 Thanks for the great write up. In fact I have seen that before on old cars where the old rubber hose would crack causing it to suck air instead of fuel. When I installed new fuel pump in the fuel tank I installed a new line from the tank to the generator it was 19 years old and pretty stiff.

    Thank you for this video, I had the same problem with mine. I opened the bleeder after it shut down and barely any fuel came out of the bowl. Code 36, I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter at it ran for 45 minutes with the a/c on two warm up and cool down cycles with out shutting off. great video very helpful content, keep them coming !

    If you do this fixed don't forget to replace the fuel filter you'll see the little fuel filter just before the fuel pump. Owen recommends changing both the fuel pump and the fuel filter at 450 hours.

    The oil dip stick is defectively designed. The oil cavitates because it is too full and gets air whipped into it. Then the engine overheats. So remove oil until it is just touching the bottom of the stick.

      @jerryeicher7797 I don't have a service manual for the 5000 . Find one. It could also be bad brushes. Some boards will not allow engine to run if it don't see voltage.

    Who replaced the additional Onan filter at the carburetor with a collection of pipe fittings? And since you had everything out, why wouldn't you just replace that section of '2004' fuel line with new rather than worrying about flaking off a little piece on the barbs?

    • @ktoutdoor
      @ktoutdoor  6 років тому

      The pipe fittings is a upgrade fix the original design had a metal crimped style fuel filter that hung along side the carburetor and was prone for leaking gas that may cause a FIRE, so Onan has since made a kit to eliminate the fuel filters location next to the carburetor. The kit is over $20.00 I made mine for $5.00 See more info here bobsguides.com/leaking-generator-fuel-filter.html Fuel line: at the time I was in a Walmart parking lot If I had new and correct line I would have replaced it regardless even new fuel line can get slivers of rubber torn off by the barbed fittings. PS: If you have A fuel filter mounted next to the carburetor I would eliminate it.

When the line is on the carb and the fuel bowl drain is cracked I get nothing? Mined you I just bought this used. Looks like a brand new carb. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    I'm hoping that is something I can fix on mine as well. The only thing in the video that is questionable is you said it ran fine for about 10-15 minutes before it died and at the end of the video it started and you ran it for less than 60 Seconds turned it off and said music to my ears so you're still not really sure that after 15 minutes it's still going to keep running. The other comments give me confidence that replacing it is probably the issue.
