All this talk about about MJ being the GOAT during the quarantine with The Last Dance and all...it would be a MUCH different discussion if prime Wilt had played in the 90s. I'm not taking about the Wilt that played in the 70s, although an older Wilt at the back end of his career averaged over 19 rebounds a game, but the prime Wilt that averaged 50 points a game and was unstoppable. Wilt would have dominated the 90s and there would be no doubt who the greatest player of all time was, c'mon now.

Wilt - Ali would have been sensational. As Wilt excelled in practically everything, he would have done well in the boxing ring too I think (Even though Ali would have the best chance of winning imo). In every interview with Wilt he also comes across as very smart, interesting, and articulate. A great loss when he passed away.
IMHO Wilt would have defeated Ali. He had the strength, stamina and staying power to go 15 rounds w/o breaking a sweat and could have taken any punch Ali could have delivered. As for size, it's questionable whether Ali could have reached Wilt's jaw with any power. My vote goes Wilt, even though otherwise Ali was tops- and a guy with great moral courage.
I was able to turn on five people to start watching this channel. My daughter's 25-year-old boyfriend has been watching this channel for years prior to them dating. When he told me that Elgin Baylor was "disgustingly-underrated," I told my daughter "he's future son-in-law material!"
Dewane Welch the average height isn’t 6 ft 11. It’s 6 ft 10 and some change. The sizes are about the same. Not to mention they measured barefoot back then.
Wilt would dominate in any era. He would be the best center today by far. He wouldn't have those crazy 50pt average..etc because the game has changed but he would average 25-32 a game depending on the team he was on. He's gonna lead the league in rebounding and probably blocks. The only disagreement I have is that he would be able to duplicate his stats from the early 60s. The NBA is a much different game now. It would allow even that many rebounds due to shots taken.
West is right. His comment "if Wilt played in the 1990's, it would be quite embarrassing - for them to be candid." This is "the logo" making this comment. West roomed with Wilt when he was playing for the Lakers, and his reputation for evaluating players is highly-regarded.
Amazing footage as usual from you. His athleticism was insane but why is no one talking about those hook shots in practice at the end? That's mad to make 4 in a row
2:12 his shoulder was at the rim without even getting a running start holy shit. You can’t say him touching the top of the backboard is a myth after seeing that
@@vaderetro264 thank you, the perspective makes it seem like his shoulder is over the rim, but in reality even his head was below it or parallel with it.
Wilt played throu 1974. It wasnt exactly ancient times. Hell nba teams offered him to come back all the way throu 1985 at age 54. He was in perfect shape at 60.
It was his patellar tendon actually. Was an absolutely devastating injury at that time. Other guys who tore patellar tendons include Cedric Ceballos, Glen Rice, Damon Stoudamire, Alonzo Mourning, and Antonio McDyess. It pretty much ended all of their careers. None of them were all-stars after that injury. Wilt not only came back later that season (although he was noticeably limited), but played three more seasons after that, leading the league in rebounding all three times and making the all defensive team twice.
@Shaq Attack Sit down, casual. Shaq is a cop. LOL He also has been dominated by Ben Wallace, Dennis Rodman, and Yao Ming. Your statement is as accurate as the big cross eyed Aristotles stats are on the free throw line

I am blessed to have seen Wilt, close up and personal, as a young pup. My uncle would take me to Convention Hall (circa 66-67 championship season) to watch the Sixers play! This was one of the highlights of my youth. Wilt and Luke Jackson (one of the strongest players in his own right) controlled the glass and that Sixers team was tremendous. Thanks for the wonderful video of Wilt!
His hand was definitely over 12ft, but nowhere near the top but it wasn't extended straight up, but what is more amazing is his head being 3 inches above the rim indicating that he's around a 38 inch vertical just off a drop step block attempt. If he got a running start and got his vertical leap tested, wouldn't be surprised to see him get above a 43 inch vertical which is crazy for being 7'1.
Wilt is the 🐐. No question. He would destroy any competition in any era. Hell he’d probably even be the greatest NFL player if he went pro in football. Man was a real life cheat code.
God bless this channel man...you really blessed us with this content 💯. Youngins like me can do they research and see what this man about more because you! Stay blessed 🙌🏽
Sage Antone LeBron is. LeBron can easily get his head at rim, sometimes above the rim, despite being 250 lbs so he has over a 40 inch vertical. Wilt struggles to get his head at the rim despite being 7 foot 1 and lighter, which puts his vert in the low 30's.
@@McFlashh Wilt's maximum reach being 13' and his standing reach in shitty shoes being 9'7" makes his vertical 41". Imagine him in good shoes, side note he was a lot bigger and stronger than lebron.
Wilt Chamberlain is the true GOAT. Think about it, if injuries didn't hamper some crucial parts of his career, if he had star teammates like Bill Russell have, if they recorded blocked shots and other stats they didn't invent yet during Wilt's playing career, Bill Russell won't win those 11 rings and get the recognition that he have if Wilt had those things. Wilt Chamberlain is a superior kind of athlete and no one can come close, the majority of the GOAT discussions would be different if only Wilt had better teammates and better luck during his career days.
He had a team of almost all HOFers. The reason he didn’t win was because he didn’t pass. When he started passing, they beat the Celtics in 5. He’s the best athlete but let’s not pretend his teammates were terrible when he played with tons of y’all of fame players in Philly and LA. He also lost to the Knicks so.
C Jo he didn’t pass because that’s what his coaches perfected him to do. The wanted him to be the one man show. Their game plan was to give it to wilt and let him go to work. He had his selfish deeds, but let’s not paint him as some ball hog. He preferred to play the all around game but he was one that listened to his coaching staff. They thought that the best results would come from just force feeding him as much as possible.
@Shaq Attack um you do realize those rules were implied back then? And not only that but 60’s had the most HOF centers and has Oscar and west which is 2 of top 10 pg and has wilt and bill which is another top 10 of all time
This guy was drafted to pro football, pro soccer, and pro volleyball. He also could’ve been a boxer!??. God damn, that’s just pure talent one is born with.
😄, all these many decades I've known about this great man, and I learn something about him I never knew. He could dance as well, and believe me when I say this, I'm not the least bit surprised, with his agility and coordination at his size, why wouldn't he be able to dance. He could've probably done anything he put his mind to doing, and I'm positive that not being a good free throw shooter, stuck in his craw. He wanted to be a good free throw shooter, as I know he likely worked at it as intensely as any other aspects of his game. Not doing something well and accepting it, wasn't a part of his DNA, his loar continues to grow...
Absolute insane how quick and athletic he was. Nobody else this big has ever been able to move like that. Most guys that size in basketball can barely move at all.
We argue Lebron vs MJ, but ignore the greats of yesteryear... Lebron is better than Jordan, but in my opinion, Lebron isnt better than the giants and dominant forces of the decades prior... Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem and Bill Russell should be everyones choice of #1 best all time. But we diluted the game to only Jordan and that hes untouchable... It makes me sad that the legends that paved the way are ignored due to the ignorant facts of the era where we had talented teams all around... Im happy there are some people left that acknowledge the greatness of Wilt, Russell, The Big O and the numerous talent of that time.

Wilt's weight hit 292 by the 1964 season, and he was 310-315 during the Laker years [according to Chick Hearn ]. Imagine a man that size, jumping that high, playing those minutes, year after year, in CHUCKS. No wonder he was done after a little over 1,000 games. Now imagine he at least got to play in 1985-vintage Air Jordans, much less the high-tech, super-padded custom shoes worn by today's players. He could easily have played for 20 or more injury-free seasons and 1600+ games.
1:50 Take a look at his speed. He once beat the great Jim Brown in a 40 yard dash. Also his endurance was off the charts. At his peak, he nearly played every minute of every game with few breaks. Way more athletic than any center I've seen
The fact he coild run the quarter is most impressive to me. Russell was a ranked high jumper as well. Ive nevwr seen a competitive athelete run the quarter over 6'5" amd that was only one guy. At that height they lumber or cant move, this guy could sprint and he was strong. Wow. Soccer, water polo, volley ball? Just wow.

I'm taking wilt in 67. That's when he had his all around game firing on all cylinders
Rickey Lynoard Smith he always did have that but just wanted to score more
@@jesuschrististhelord9937 '67 Wilt played with excellent players and for an excellent coach so he didn't have to score as much. That '67 Philly team was one of the greatest teams of all time.
Jing Qi it was the same team.
Jing Qi the coach convinced wilt to rely on his teammates more
This is serendipitous because I acutally felt like watching that amazing video you did 4 years ago about the top centers of the 60s after work.
I grew up watching Michael Jordan and agree that Jordan is the greatest among players since the 1980s but Wilt is the true GOAT! The man averaged 50 points and 25 rebounds for a season. That will never be repeated! Did you see the way he was blocking a young Kareem? Holy shit!!!
And rule changed bcuz Wilt was too unfair and dominated the league, like wew rule change on just this man :0
I agree!
MJ? he didn't even won to Bird....According to Bird ,if you want to know who is the greatest then open the book of records ...He's referring to Wilt..
Give to Wilt Chamberlain the today's mídia, money ,shoes and training and let's see the results!
SCARY
Did Wilt play plumbers and little white guys? Or did Wilt make some amazing athletes look kinda average?? This is the most physically gifted athlete ever. Any sport any era he was simply a freak.
yes, he played plumbers and little white guys.
@@joyfulhvh By the middle of his career
A. Players were the same height as they are today
B. NBA players were paid more on average than the MLB and NFL
C. Racial dynamics were about the same as today
joyful oh how could we forget there weren’t real athletes until after lebron was drafted lmao
He had to play against Bill Russell and Nate Thurmond !!
@@henrybuchan4688 no, the players werent the same height as him, not even close, even highlights show it
Wilt - Ali would have been sensational.
GREAT VIDEO WILT CHAMBERLAIN ARCHIVE......THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT.. !!!!!
Yo this is awesome especially during Corona lock down. Thanks again from one Historian to another you doing a great thing here
I was able to turn on five people to start watching this channel. My daughter's 25-year-old boyfriend has been watching this channel for years prior to them dating. When he told me that Elgin Baylor was "disgustingly-underrated," I told my daughter "he's future son-in-law material!"
My man! Always with the great content!
If you are looking for perfection for a giant athlete, that’s what it looks like.
Some people talked that Wilt was playing with white smaller guys but they didnt researched,,there were 30 plus 6'11" up players.
The avg height for a center now is 6'11. At wilts time it was 6'10. Wooooowwwww 1 inch. Lol
Dewane Welch the average height isn’t 6 ft 11. It’s 6 ft 10 and some change. The sizes are about the same. Not to mention they measured barefoot back then.
We try the hook when we don't want to be blocked in pick up games, he blocked a 7'3" jabbar consecutive times...
@@dewanewelch1744 It's 6'11.75" bare foot ,I've my list..Now?6'11" with shoes..

Jerry West believes that Wilt would have ate 1990s centers alive.
West is right. His comment "if Wilt played in the 1990's, it would be quite embarrassing - for them to be candid." This is "the logo" making this comment. West roomed with Wilt when he was playing for the Lakers, and his reputation for evaluating players is highly-regarded.
shaq would injure him and end his whole career, jerry west is a plumber

I totally agree with Mr West
Wilt Chamberlain could score 100 points in today's game against the current Houston small ball team.
I mean to be fair, every center could probably do that against that small ass team. Lol. Kwame brown is eating against the rockets defense.
Bullshit
Basket Ball yeah but when he scored 100 there was no 3 seconds in the paint
If he can shoot threes and and his team is gsw hahahah
“He’d run the quarter mile like a deer.” Gets me every time
plus running like a giraffe was also funny
fantastic-more footage of Wilt than I've seen anywhere...ever
1:48 Good Lord that speed 👀
Amazing footage as usual from you. His athleticism was insane but why is no one talking about those hook shots in practice at the end? That's mad to make 4 in a row
2:11
We've/you've never seen something like that ever, since when he retired until now, nothing like that seen to this day.
Great video! I hope we get to see more of your work in the future.
I appreciate your videos so much man showing legends the respect they deserve!
insane how fast, skilled AND strong he was! I only wish he came 20-30 years later to the game...
2:12 his shoulder was at the rim without even getting a running start holy shit. You can’t say him touching the top of the backboard is a myth after seeing that
And in converse, imagine if he had some modern Nikes
Look more carefully, not even his head is at rim level. Incredible athlete, he doesn't need your exaggerations.
Tore his Achilles still avged 16-19 for the Lakers in a four year stretch delivered a title as well
And the Finals MVP as well
Omg he tore his Achilles and could still play? That is legit crazy
Your efforts are very much appreciated. Thanks.
Wilt would dominate ANY era.
Yes TF he would
@Shaq Attack Sit down, casual. Shaq is a cop. LOL He also has been dominated by Ben Wallace, Dennis Rodman, and Yao Ming. Your statement is as accurate as the big cross eyed Aristotles stats are on the free throw line
OH..MY..GOD! Could He ...Be AnyMore Athletic?! And The Strength Is Insane Like The Sound When He Hit The Volleyball Not The Bounce But The Actual Hit Was Crazy
People can't comprehend he was real. Even with video.
I hope younger fans will watch this video. Eye opening.

K K nah
Always putting up great videos!
Thank you so much that means a lot coming from you. Hope you enjoy the footage!
2:07 his hand is at the top of the backboard. That’s 13 feet tall
Nope
@@siulau7498 nope not 3 inches above rim but exactly at a rim level which is impressive for just a standing jump...
Wilt is the 🐐. No question. He would destroy any competition in any era. Hell he’d probably even be the greatest NFL player if he went pro in football. Man was a real life cheat code.

The NBA records book should just say, Wilt Chamberlain's record book.
Wilt is a superhuman
You need to bring Shaq a bit lower in the opening picture... He was shorter than Wilt, and couldn't jump as high, either.
there is a picture with shaq and wilt standing next to each other, it amazing how much smaller shaq is
Simply stunning...
Changed my mind. This guy is a top 3 player ever.

I love the end Wilt made 4 corner NBA 3 point hookshots in a row. That's an exclamation point!
I think I’ve watched to many videos on Wilt Chamberlain everything people said during the video I remember listening to on other videos.

Way more athletic than any center I've seen
criminally underrated now by snarky gen z and hipster millenials
All I can say is I thank God I was able to see him as a kid. He will always by my favorite.
