Captain Phoenix - thanks for spreading the gospel of Sam Records. All of Fred Thomas’ releases are great and I think essential for any fan of 1950s jazz. I have all his releases sans the live Byrd album on Transition (impossible to get and priced at $1,000). Also if you are in Paris go to his shop - it is great. I spent 2 hours there listening to records and bought waaaay too much (picked up Bennie Green’s “Soul Stirrin’” on Blue Note). Vive la Sam Records!

Thanks for this overview. I purchased all of these as well. I am now of the mind to get everything Sam puts out. All have arrived except for the Art Blakey and Byrd/Jaspar -- those are in the mail. Of all these releases, the Blakey is my most anticipated -- looks like they did a great job with the packaging and concert photos. Thanks! -- Mike

Thanks for your kind words, Mike
The Blakey album is great - look forward to get that.
I buy everything Fred Thomas puts out too and still have not been disappointed 🙂.
However I know that Fred has had qualities issues with the Optimal-pressings lately and he is working on getting future releases pressed at a smaller, French pressing plant.

Am I mistaken or does Fred not print text on the outside record spines, leaving them empty?

Just checked 6-7 of the ones I have here. There is printing on all of them: The record number at the upper part of the spine and the title of the album in the lower third.

@@Claus-CaptainPhoenixCorner Thanks I have Nathan Davis Live in Paris 3-LP edition from Sam Records. Comes with blank side (spine). Makes it hard to know what it is when on the shelf, sandwiched between other LPs. I also thought the couple of the ones you showed in this video were blank but that could be just due to the lighting. All the best.

@@drazenbabich This is also one of my pet peeves with Sam Records LPs, some come with text on the spine some don't, but some that do sometimes are printed upside down :(
I wish Fred applied some consistency when it comes to those things.

I dig it! Saw you at Rachel's so came by to say hi... Come on over sometime! 🙂

Thanks for your comment, but what do you mean by “getting silly”?
