Most important: abilities which allow you to carry more gear: Mechanized, Resource Hauler, Weapon Holsters, and Assisted Carry The damage reduction and hazard resistances are all excellent.
I’ve re rolled the Mantis armor somewhere in the realm of 180 times. I’ve only ever seen sentinel roll on the spacesuit. I opted for a roll that gave me weapon holstered, sentinel and head hunter as the main perks I was looking for.
I find it a massive missed opportunity that they didn't allow for starsuit design tier 4 to dismantle legendary perks from legendary gear so that you can put it on your own gear. That way you could reliably make your own awesome spacesuits like how Enchanting worked in Skyrim. I hope they add it down the line. Farming legendary gear or even epic gear is pretty annoying to do.
I wanna say that of my 410hrs of playing time, a solid 30% went to farming legendary weapons and gear. Even with the weapon crate glitch (300-400 crates), it took me multiple hours over multiple days to get a proper legendary coachman with extended mags and no useless perks. And for gear, sometimes I’ll have a few sessions just farming from the same high level enemy. It’s crazy..
I'm pretty positive that will be an early mod once mod tools are available. It was a pretty popular mod in fo4 to remove and attach legendary effects so imagine translating that coding to this updated version of the CE will be easy.
I was thinking the same thing. I mean, how are they supposedly "made" within the lore of the game anyway? Someone has to have created them, right? Why not let them player create what they want as long as they have invested in the right perks? Especially since the game is designed to go through 10 playthroughs to get the entire experience, but you lose your gear every time you start the next NG+.
I'm honestly surprised this is the first video I've seen mentioning the chameleon stacking effect. Funny to me that you only mentioned the combat effects, as I exclusively keep 2 chameleon items on every character to steal things in plain sight. It's hilarious cleaning out entire store displays in broad daylight
Fellow kleptomaniacs, my tip for you is to make personal atmosphere star power you best friend. While active, it allows you to sprint and boost freely etc as though you were carrying nothing at all. Recharges quickly enough, really helps when trying to get within range of your ship after a loot run
As far as I know, the Peacemaker 10% rifle damage boost only comes from the armor set that you get at the end of the Eleos Retreat quest. I’ve never seen it in the wild. This is likely why it doesn’t change your equipment name, because the suit it comes on is already named with that effect.
Yes, and I just spent about 4 hours going through that final dialogue where you get it so that in the other two slots I got Combat Veteran and Auto-Medic.
I love having one piece of auto medic on at all times, not really for the healing, but more for the alert it gives me cause there are a lot of fights I get really low and don't notice it until I hear the med pack go off. There's a guaranteed full suit of legendary gear in the questline mentioned at 22:20 that has this effect
I heard about it for Skyrim and it revolutionized what I pick up. Always ammo and potions. Never food which is useless. Only armor I think I'll use. Valuable weapons. I kinda hate crafting because you have to pick up everything in the class or you'll wander forever looking for the one widget you need.
Actually, in Skyrim, some food has excellent wt/val. An apple that weighs 0.1 and is worth 5 is a 50/1 value to weight ratio. The key is, if you often reach your weight limit, you want to maximize value per unit of weight. Think of it this way: if you have an axe worth 150 that weighs 10, that is a 15 to 1 value to weight ratio. For the same weight of 10, you could carry 100 apples worth 500.
Something they do need to add is, whenever you're getting an armor set (Mantis being the most important), it is impossible to roll the _same effect_ or effects which _don't stack_ on different parts of the set. For example, Fastened and Mechanized don't give you 60 extra carry capacity, only the 40 from Mech. So if you roll Mech on the suit, Fastened shouldn't be on the pack.
Sentinel will pop up on any " named " Spacesuits like Mantis or Peacemaker, it also seems to show up on High mass suits like Trackers Alliance and Mercenary. Fastened only is on Packs. Mechanized only on Spacesuits. Acrobat will not proc on a Helmet. Hope this helps. Galvanized is probably my favourite resist. As corrosive damage sucks when you get hit by it. For some strange reason Antiseptic also resists bacterial poisoning from bad water or oceans. I'm inspired by your thorough testing and I want to add to your insights. Assisted Carry only spawns on Packs and is amazingly useful on console as I'm always running encumbered while exploring. And yes if your O2 maxes out on the red you'll eventually lose health down to 1 hp where you die to tripping.
This is very quickly becoming my favorite channel for Starfield information and entertainment. Still learning a few things, and one of the hardest ones for me personally is learning how to actually stealth/ sneak well or to not get caught. I was really intrigued about how the scaling for Chameleon works along with the perk that gives you lesser-Chameleon. Is there by chance a way/ possibility to making an in-depth and informative video on sneaking/ stealth and how to best make it work? I always seem to get caught, despite having the perk dumps into it
This really explains why I don't see the point of trying to farm legendary equipment. With the effects being random, most of what you get tends to be total crap.
Was just looking this type of content up for Mantis armor rerolls yesterday. Appreciate all you do for the community. Maybe some kind of survey data video next for if certain kinds of fauna are not worth spending the time looking for? Currently surveying Gagarin in the Alpha Centauri system for some extra credits and there are 2 Fauna that I cannot find in the only biome that isn't 100%.
It never occurred to me that the effects could stack... With the Cameleon I was already wondering why that didn't help... Great video! Thanks for your work... Cya Jomswiking 🤘😎
On my second play-through, I save scummed the Mantis gear and managed 3 pieces with the stagger effect. 30% chance in total had them reeling. All. The. Time. I kept that gear through lvl 70.
Can you go back to mantis layer to go back and try this? I saw another video where people went back to loot that spot but I'm not sure about the mantis gear
One thing to note with the environmental effects if you are doing the final mission in the crimson fleet quest and have a combined 40+ in all environmental effects you have significantly higher chances of surviving that mission. Don’t want to give out any spoilers but I noticed a major difference in playthroughs of that mission on my 2nd run through when I actually paid attention to those stats and balanced them.
It's obviously play style specific, but I use assisted carry a lot and find it's a nice quality of life effect for me. It was on one of the first packs I got, and I keep that pack on me at all times. I use auto-run a lot and I also tend to often be encumbered. Assisted carry lets me just mindlessly auto-run long distances while encumbered without having to manage oxygen depletion. I find that pretty convenient when exiting a dungeon or getting back to my ship after a long wander and I am loaded up. It is also handy when crafting if you have a truly insane amount of resources in one of the infinite storage boxes, and for convenience sake you just grab it all before crafting. With like >10000kg on you, you can hardly take two steps without going full depletion, but assisted carry lets you wander the room easily. I know oxy depletion is low consequence, but I still find it annoying and assisted carry lets me dodge it a lot
Awesome video. Always fun to see why my initial weapon choice is the worst possible choice, again :) I went with tier 3 in pistols and keep finding great non-pistol weapons that make my pistol damage look tame. Looking forward to a good video on ship weapons. The testing I have done so far makes me think they made ship weapon stats and level requirements with a moving dart board. What we need to know about missiles is completely opaque. Still useful amazingly :)
Normally I don't like watching these types of videos. I prefer to figure things out myself. But with how expansive games are nowadays, and how extremely likely they are NOT to work the way they're supposed to, I got to say I very much appreciate people like you putting in the effort for gamers like us. Great videos!! Much appreciation!!
This changes everything for rerolling Mantis for some people. I remember people trying to triple roll mirrored or fastened types. Honestly 90% of the perks really don't feel worth it except double or triple -15% ones
Did you play through multiple times? I wonder if the choices you make ever carry forward to NG+ universes. If you are evil all the time, does it make future universes more evil?
As someone who loots EVERY single item, i find the Assisted Carry effect to be one of my faves. Enjoyed the video and agree with most of your other effect reviews though.
Same bro. I always keep my assisted carry mantis pack along with my normal pack. Whenever I get encumbered I toss on the assisted carry and trot along at “running” speed
*Subbed* : This video has confirmed what I have noticed over 576+ hrs of play time. BTW... Is there a *CHEAT SHEET* somewhere that shows which FX are stackable? If not, I'll have to make a personal list on my phone. Thx! 😎 👍
does the chameleon effect stack with the skill that turns you invisible on sneaking? If so then you might only need one piece for stealth as it could stack with the skill.
In the base game with no mods the rank 3 concealment perk will stack with chameleon but with only one piece of gear and the perk you have 90% Invisibility. Each piece of chameleon gives 50% without the perk but it's value is reduced with the perk active. So in order to get 100% Invisibility with the perk you still have to use 2 pieces of gear.
You know what, you do good work, you can have a sub. I'll just say the assisted carry can make a big difference in time saved when hauling too much stuff back to your ship, mostly from sprint boosting which keeps your sprint speed but only drains as much O2 as normal running as long as you're airborne. It is just a convenience thing and probably doesn't deserve to be a legendary effect, but it's very nice to have when half the pirates in the base you just cleared have high value guns or suits and your ship is a kilometer away.
Unclemumble - 2 acrobat completely nullifies fall damage Me, a lvl 120 ground peasant - shut up and take my money! On a serious note if you wanna try to see if sentinel spawns on helmet/packs, save scumming the mantis armor can be a good way to test this. I'd try it, bit I'm waiting for an update that fixes ship/crew bugs before I NG+again
Sentinel effect can be on any legendary spacesuits. I have multiple suits with that effect, including a version of the Mantis armor. Never seen it on helmets or packs.
Beautiful man. Thank you so much for your hard work. You have answered so many of the questions I've had about this game. I have a request, can you do a video on weapon damage scaling? What I mean is the raw number on the weapon and how or why those numbers increase during your playthrough. I have killed level 100 and level 60 guys and they seem to drop the same weapons with same damage numbers, as an example during my playthrough on ng+10 the A99 has gone from 40-46 base damage. But yet when I watch others videos I see guns with way higher damage numbers. Is it tied to the main quest? Is it tied to the UC Vanguard quest line? And yes I under the difference between the base and advanced but I'm talking about just the base a99 and all other base guns. Is it skill tree perks increasing the numbers? I hope this makes sense.
The way I spawned many legendary armor was to go up to a boss chest, loot it, reset the container, loot it again. I wrote an ahk script to automate this process. (Annoying thing is menus take longer to load as inventory increases so that has to be accounted for.)
I’d say that the assisted carry effect is actually a god tier effect for loot goblins. If you combine it with O2 filtered. It completely negates over encumbrance.
Lol i had stagger with incendiary so was wondering how they were reacting. And i found assisted carry quite helpful. As a collector I usually pick up one of everyrhing in a quest. And instead of needing to decide what to hold onto. Assisted carry makes me completely lose the need to check my weight. Haha. Sure i wont sprint as much. But just walking or using my boost pack to get speed and still recover 02 is just QoL. And considering if you have your ship in space and warp to any point on a planet means I dont have to worry about running across a whole city anyway.
I found Assisted Carry early and strongly disagree about the lack of usefulness. It’s a nice to have if overfilling your pockets, sure, but it’s a VERY nice to have.
Completely agree I can carry 600 or 700 and be able to run quite a long ways versus just a straight extra 40 carrying capacity... Assisted carry is way better and it's not even close
A Big miss is all the unique weapons and armors having a separate Unique mod that is Specific to that unique item. Like, the Mantis armor reduces damage from Spacers and Crimson Fleet, or Pirate Legend increases crit againat UC.
First mod anyone should install after the don't lose achievements to modding mod, is one to trivialise that damned hacking minigame. It was ok for the first handful of locks, but it gets tiresome Fast.
Assisted carry keeps you from running out oxygen as quickly in combat while over encumbered. Avoids taking health damage and the annoying overlay and getting kicked out of sprint. Does what it says on the tin to loot a location on the move instead of wasting another 10 minutes trying to find every body stuffed in a corner with a blue on it. One of the only effects that materially improves the core gameloop.
Totally agree. It's my favorite effect. Absolutely wouldn't trade it for anything. I always reroll the Mantis gear until I get at least Assisted Carry, + 20% Oxygen, and use 25% less oxygen as a minimum. The difference having those three makes is incredible. I can pretty much run from the Lodge to the UC Distribution store without going into the red on Xbox no matter how much I'm carrying. Then if I'm lucky I try to also get Resources and/or Weapons weigh less on them too. To say it's a useless effect couldn't be further from the truth
When they introduce a survival mode (it feels inevitable) I really hope they explain environmental damage, damage protection and depletion better. I know it would be great for a number of skills as you mentioned. It could be a boon to any oxygen or weight related effects as well. That said their vision of carrying a bunch of space suits seems frustrating. I really hope they revamp things a little to let you tweak environmental resistances on suits or perhaps shift the stats to reduce what would be needed to be kept/carried. I'm actually really looking forward to a good survival mode since this game feels more perfect for it than previous many BGS RPGs but I hope they spend some care on it and don't rush out something half-baked.
You mentioned not having a reliable way to get equipment effects, but what about re-rolling the mantis gear. If I remember right, certain effects can only be applied to certain pieces of gear. For example: you can only get weapon holsters on the spacesuit and you can only get sensor chip on the space helmet. Unless the loot that enemies drop is different from the effects that can be on the mantis armor.
I was coming to say this. I refreshed armor for close to an hour when the game came out to try and get a favorable effect set. Unfortunately the catch is you can't reroll each piece, you just get randomized on all 3 as far as I can tell. Finally went with the save that gave sentinel(spacesuit), bolstering, chameleon, and armor plated in the mix. 😂 But
I play on Xbox and I find Assisted Carry with O2 Filter amazing on my Mantis pack I agree with you on most of your opinions. I'm usually overburdened by 1000 mass. And I would be super frustrated without the Assisted Carry with O2 Filter. I also think Beast Hunter deserves an Honourable mention due to the way most aliens can swarm you. It also reduces mêlée and ranged damage.
I suspect the Sensor Chip behaves similar to stabilizing barrel/stock mods? The stab mods say that they increase your accuracy, but I noticed they actually ended up increasing my range. And the Sentinel launch is probably the damage going negative, so the flinch/launch sends you forward instead of back.
Maybe you are deep into your next video, perhaps about ship building parts and ranking which ones are great and how to get them... if you do, please also test Comspike Module & Conduction Grid. I hear they do not stack, which is too bad if that's the case (but you can have more than one being you can get them from Jasmine at the Key).
Yet another great video. I’m glad there are people who love the game but want it to realize its full potential, which includes talking about some of the dumb BS in parts of the game. I wish Bethesda would hire you as a consultant or something, it would so improve the experience! ❤
Just wanted to say thanks for the great work and to answer your question I have seen sentinel on a pack before. I spent hours rolling the mantis armour and on one roll I managed to get sentinel on the pack. Never got it on the helmet though. Hope this helps. 😊
❤ your guides! I feel like you may be wrong about Incendiary tho😅 I just started using it on 3 pieces as well as my 1in punch Kodama and Im having a BLAST😂
I like to have 1 auto medic because most fights don't last long enough to need a second. After the fight the regen perk takes care of the rest by the time I've looted.
My first time getting the mantis armor I got such a god roll. All three parts were chameleon. Imagine my dismay when I found out it was random in my subsequent playthroughs.
the mantis armor and the anit-xeno armor are the only two spacesuits I that have consistently found the sentinel effect on in my play throughs. all the other times I've gotten it, it was a random legendary drop and was typically on some crap spacesuit that I sold
I just found Sentinel on the Mantis spacesuit, took a screenshot so can confirm it will at least possibly roll on other suits besides just the UC Vanguard one
Best: chameleon, headhunter and combat vet. Worst: reduced atmos effects (who cares) and O2 boost (personal atmosphere ftw). Late game, increased carry buffs are useless: I have tons of credits and have stopped picking up loot, especially as expensive loot is a pain to sell and wait for vendors to rest.
I could swear my current either helmet or pack has sentinel, will double check after the video. I'm a fan of that effect. *It was headhunter, not sentinel*
From my experience some effects are indeed locked (or at least more common) to some types of gear. Helmet: Hacker, Head-hunter, Analyzer, Sensor Chip Pack: Fastened, Assisted Carry, Armor-Plated Suit: Acrobat, Weapon Holsters, Auto-Medic, Mechanized, Sentinel Also don't think I have seen the dreaded O2 Boosted/Filter on Spacesuits.
The one thing about Incendiary that UncleMumble missed is that targets that are on fire take significantly more damage from energy weapons. It still isn't that good, especially if you use ballistics or melee, but it can be much better than just the damage it deals directly.
Hard disagree with assisted carrying I can carry 700/190 weight and make it forever while running without having to stop running. 40 extra capacity is absolute trash by comparison..imo
so this series has come back through my dash, and it's interesting how many of these effects and skills and so on are very different when using the new build of starfield compared to at this time... Might be worth your time to re-visit these with a modern version of the game. Environmental affects are MARKEDLY more useful with some of the more difficult game settings, as example. Being out in a hot environment on a harder difficulty for disease can absolutely cripple you.
Update. Sentinel and Mechanized only appears on Suits. Fastened only appears on Packs. Assisted Carry is essential for console playing. I'm always running. Analyser only works on Planetary Fauna that has been actually 100% scanned. It will not work on humans and Terrormorphs.
I always carry all the weapon and cosmetics I find during the missions. And a closed area generally stores more than my maxed out carry capacity + my companion's. So I generally run into that encumbered state after a while. That epic perk is not terrible for me :)
What's are your favourite armor effects in Starfield? What do you think is the worst?
As long as it has head hunter im good. Max dps at all times.
Most important: abilities which allow you to carry more gear: Mechanized, Resource Hauler, Weapon Holsters, and Assisted Carry
The damage reduction and hazard resistances are all excellent.
I've run into sentinels effect on the mantis armor, and on both a random drop space suit, and jet pack. Never on a helmet yet.
I’ve re rolled the Mantis armor somewhere in the realm of 180 times. I’ve only ever seen sentinel roll on the spacesuit. I opted for a roll that gave me weapon holstered, sentinel and head hunter as the main perks I was looking for.
My favourite is Weapon Holster as I can't resist picking up every weapon in site and favouriting 6 or 7 weapons at a time.

Each piece of chameleon gives 50% without the perk but it's value is reduced with the perk active. So in order to get 100% Invisibility with the perk you still have to use 2 pieces of gear.
Your vigorous analysis is so appreciated. Thank you so much 👍
I love the look of the UC Antixeno suit, so I was incredibly glad it came with some great bonuses.
Great info! You put in some work for this information. Great job. Subbing.
I like 3 pieces of Bolstering. I always go for the best base stats with bolstering and pump it up on the armor table.
Best Starfield guides out there, thank you mister mumble
Would love to see you do a video on the powers, what they all do, if they're worth using and how leveling them up effects them
I’ve still never used an autoattempt on lockpicking
Lvl47
Unclemumble - 2 acrobat completely nullifies fall damage
Me, a lvl 120 ground peasant - shut up and take my money!
In all my tests the "Assisted Carry" mod also improved the O2 while sprinting. Not by 75% but by ~50%.
O2 Filter not reducing sniper Hold Breath makes sense if you think about it...
Very true!
Great and informative video, my man. Well done.
The way I spawned many legendary armor was to go up to a boss chest, loot it, reset the container, loot it again. I wrote an ahk script to automate this process. (Annoying thing is menus take longer to load as inventory increases so that has to be accounted for.)
Bro I needed this today. Thanks for posting
I’d say that the assisted carry effect is actually a god tier effect for loot goblins. If you combine it with O2 filtered. It completely negates over encumbrance.
Man, your videos are the absolute best!
I can't even imagine how I'm wearing a space-rated space suit lets you get poisoning from the local atmosphere.
Great and useful content!! Thanks for this. Sentinel is my fav, because I like to stand in the open, tank and destroy. LOL
love your videos. I've subscribed to you twice now 😂
I found Assisted Carry early and strongly disagree about the lack of usefulness. It’s a nice to have if overfilling your pockets, sure, but it’s a VERY nice to have.
Completely agree I can carry 600 or 700 and be able to run quite a long ways versus just a straight extra 40 carrying capacity... Assisted carry is way better and it's not even close
Same. Assisted Carry is very good for any loot-centric player on any run
Love your videos! So informative thanks!
When you’re watching a semi-serious video… and all the sudden he says “you have to be touching tips…”. Yep, my drink almost sprayed.
But
This is the video I wanted! Thank you ✌🏻
I really like wearing the Constellation helmet with the Buzz Lightyear suit and boostpack.
I got sentinel on my 9th Ngs+ run
respect for all that work. thanks for the video
Outstanding video, very useful. But didn't understand your comment that PeaceMaker gets overwritten by lower tier effects.
Solid videos my dude.
Helmet: Hacker, Head-hunter, Analyzer, Sensor Chip
Pack: Fastened, Assisted Carry, Armor-Plated
Suit: Acrobat, Weapon Holsters, Auto-Medic, Mechanized, Sentinel
Also don't think I have seen the dreaded O2 Boosted/Filter on Spacesuits.
I think it's good or bad depending on whether you can consistently stay within your weight limit. It really really depends.
so this series has come back through my dash, and it's interesting how many of these effects and skills and so on are very different when using the new build of starfield compared to at this time...
Personal atmosphere will be your best friend then 😊
Wow, literally shocked about the 75% less oxygen drain while RUNNING not SPRINTING. I had no idea that's what it meant. That's wild.
Well appreciated, mate. Cheers.
