  • There’s a lot of different adaptor plates for the ISB Cummins engines and it’s easy to get frustrated trying to figure out what one to use for what transmission! In this video I go over all the factory dodge offered engine adaptor plates, what transmissions you can use with which one, how to identify each one, and anything else I can think of haha!
    Hope you enjoy the video and find it helpful, if you’d like me to cover another topic please let me know in the comments :)

    The 68 adapter plates are the only thicker ones. They will work with a manual swap but the pilot bearing will not be fully engaged on the input snout so it’s not recommended. As well as not all clutch discs riding fully on the input shaft if you’re running a tripple disc clutch for sure, possibly partial engagement of one disc on a dual disc clutch as well. One thing you did miss is the 8 bolt holes that hold the adapter plate to the block changed patterns in 03 with the common rail blocks to make room for the cam seal. They will all bolt up but 2 of the 8 holes don’t line up.

      Makes sense! Good info, I’ve never put a 3rd gen adaptor plate on a 2G so I didn’t know that, I’ll pin this comment once I can figure out how to do it haha

    I've put a 12/24 valve sae2 housing on the back of a 6.7. It isn't a direct bolt on. It requires more modification than just the o-ring cam tunnel seal. There are two bolt holes that don't line up. One is about half a hole off and the other around an inch off if I remember correctly. The bosses for these hole don't touch the block in the right spot either so it isn't as simple as just drilling new holes. You also have to grind on the sae2 housing some to clearance for the rear main seal housing and bolts or it won't sit flat on the back of the block. To my knowledge there never was any sae2 or 3 housings for front gear train (Dodge style) 5.9 and 6.7 common rail engine. To my knowledge every common rail that has a sae housing is rear gear train and that housing makes up half of the gear case.

    Awesomeness! Question? I have an 85 chevy 1 ton dually crew cab 2WD with a 92 cummins Clark 5 speed behind.. Love this truck but the reverse is to high to back up with a trailer.. So i was thinking about an Auto install possibly an Allison 1000? What are my options and what is your opinion?? Thanks kindly ahead for your answer!!

      Sorry for the late reply
      The Allison transmission swap… to put it in a dumb way… is kind of a “meme”. You’d think it would be the greatest thing ever given the reputation of the transmissions, but the main thing with the Allison behind the duramax is it’s a pretty “smart” transmission that will prevent you from frying it. A dodge trans tho, it’ll let you roast it down to raw aluminum 🤣
      The cost of doing the Allison swap really isn’t worth it in the end vs having a properly built dodge automatic. Or, look into doing a G56 as they’re very easy to convert 4x4 units to 2wd (just a bolt on slip yoke), or a NV4500 if you can’t find/afford a G56.

    I have a question. I have a second gen 5.9 12 valve and a 2006 g56. What adapter plate do I need and what starter? Will I need a starter spacer? Thank you for a great video!

    Just letting you know, I’ve sold several swaps to 4th gen guys and you just need to start a spacer to run the automatic motor plate

    • @Hazardous-Hotrod-Knowledge
      @Hazardous-Hotrod-Knowledge  Рік тому

      So 68rfe with a NV5600 just needs a starter spacer? G56 shouldn’t?
      It’s interesting because there definitely is a thickness difference but maybe it just isn’t enough to be a factor

    In the process of replacing my clutch and found a bad crack in my adapter plate so I had to order one from a salvage yard. Then I seen used adapter plate braces and started to research if maybe they were something added after my 07 ,5.9 G56 was made. Looks like a top brace goes to the two holes on the 6.7 adapter however I need to figure out where the two lower braces bolt to in hopes I can add them. Not sure why I have cracks. I know my throw out bearing is in pieces

      @Hazardous-Hotrod-Knowledge  Рік тому

      Yeah on the 07+ 6.7 adaptor plates they have a L brace at the top of it, then there’s 2 cast iron side braces that bolt to the block, I’m unsure if the 5.9 block has the same provisions on the block to use them or not

    On a 3rd gen what adaptor plate is needed that will accomodate an allison tranny with the non GM bell housing. In other words. Allison with the indistrial bell housing

    I want to install a GM gas 350 (1988), onto an Allison 1000 (2010). It's in an MT 45 Freightliner step van. Would I need an adaptor plate? I have a horseshoe engine mount. I'm confused about electronics function of the 2010 Allison. Will it function without a harness plugged into it? Any help from anyone is appreciated, thanks. Glenn

    To my knowledge the SAE#2 plate is larger then SAE#3 the bolt c to c is 16.875" for the #3 and the #2 is 18.375"

    I'm just beginning my research on bolting a 13-speed Roadranger up to my current 2014 Ram 3500 6.7 Cummins. I currently have the G56 stock manual transmission in it now. Has anyone reading this done this modification? 😮

    I have a question. Not sure if you can help? I have a 1stgen cummins and i am doing a g56 swap . I have a 1996 2 gen adapter plate. What year starter would work best. Since i have to buy one. Thanks again

      If you can fit it, use a 6.7L starter, it has the most cranking power. Really good ones are I -think- 3.3KW and stock is 2.7KW or lower
      The 96 adaptor plate should work great with the g56

    The SAE3 adapter has the smaller diameter circle to bolt up the transmission. Allison 6 speeds come with an SAE3 converter housing, school buses, etc... Do not spend your money on a Cummins to Chevy Allison adapter.
