    I used to work in for a fashion e-commerce store and I would always cringe when the marketing manager would look at Zara 😭 just cause our competitors do it doesn’t mean it’s good. That was something I always struggled with.

    They are actually not a luxury website, they are fast fashion which is maybe what they are going for with the focus on design over function. But I agree with your take.

    Great critique! I was thinking if you can do a follow up video to your layout part 1 video.
    A video Explaining how to create great compositions and layouts in web design that are consistent throughout with rhythm and on how to compose and layout the content/images and elements in a way that’s not only aesthetically pleasing but functional and successful for the user ?
    I see a lot of really aesthetically pleasing websites with good functionality and i ask myself how did the designer know WHERE on the page to put the content, and compose it in a way that’s pleasing and functional ? And yes I understand contrast and negative space etc.. but what I’m not sure about at moment is achieving asymmetrical balance in UI design
    I just want to learn how to make aesthetically pleasing yet functional layouts that works for the content that’s given it’s something I’m currently looking to get better at.
    Are there any composition techniques I can apply and practice?

    Zara has been my go-to exampe for bad UX since 2019. They didn't change. Destructive unethical fashion, trashy UX.

    Just looked at their site. It's even worse now. Looks like they had a creative agency (not to be confused with a design/development company) do it or something.

    What about their pagespeed score? 17 on mobile and 57 on PC. If only the knew how important was that.
    Time to Interactive, Speed Index, Total Blocking Time, Largest Contentful Paint, Cumulative Layout Shift, Time to Interactive, Speed Index these are all basics to succeed.

    i don't think it's right to call it mistakes if it's obvious they were intended to work just as they work and to initiate this friction
    your criticisms would be fair "in general", like in 50 mistakes video (which is great), but not in a brutalist project which doesn't aim at conversion rates

    • @LorettaBangBang
      @LorettaBangBang Рік тому +1

      Do you wan to suggest a company that doesn't care about *anything* but profits suddenly cares about something else here? I doubt it. I'd instead suggest they are putting the money elswhere with the aim of profiting more.

    • @wa5657
      @wa5657 Рік тому

      @@LorettaBangBang not saying they don't care about profits)) probably their marketing department decided that their site being as it is won't loose them money
      again, this design is obviously intended, it might've cost them more than normal intuitively understandable marketplace

  • @jhalanddesign
    @jhalanddesign Рік тому +1

    Think your probably wrong on this subject. The "unintuitive" layout make you dig deeper and more, and since this is fast fashion with limited editions you have to dig to find out if your missing out or not. They point right at the fomo and make you work as a user. And for the images at the welcome page is all about identity markers, I believe they know very well what they are doing. (By the way it’s not a luxury brand, it’s cheap clothes packaged as luxury). Keep on making you good videos 😊

    • @denizbinay42
      @denizbinay42 11 місяців тому

      I think that's always the misperception. In my small one-person study, spending 20 minutes on this exact page on a mobile device a few months ago, showed that i didn't buy anything. I didn't return. And I actually like their clothes.

    • @jhalanddesign
      @jhalanddesign 11 місяців тому

      @@denizbinay42 Yes, that was a tiny biased study, so would not flag that as a clear evidence for that UX. In my case I've spend way to much time on zara-home.

  • @vuufke4327
    @vuufke4327 Рік тому

    It's obviously a low hanging fruit, but actually the design of this website is quite alright because you miss interpreted it's purpose, maybe their research shows that people are not buying on the main site or at least not coming to site to browse the product selection, maybe this website is just a presentation of the brand to arouse the customer's imagination

    • @thewebsitearchitect
      @thewebsitearchitect  Рік тому +4

      You've misinterpreted the purpose of the video. It's that this presentational design is shit for user experience even if it's on purpose. No design should prioritize being unique and special over functional and easy to use
