Honestly this IS THE Star Trek theme, no disrespecto intended toward Alexander Courage, but I never like the original series theme and I'm glad they got Goldsmith to make this theme as it is epic.
there's a ride called the Wind Seeker at several amusement parks like Kings Island and Cedar Point. I remember at Cedar Point, this theme plays whenever the ride elevates into the air...but it's hilarious b/c whenever the ride operator has to make an announcement,, the music gets interrupted and resets from the beginning lmfao
DAMN what a grand and sweeping theme. I really CAN imagine space being the final frontier while listening to this. RIP Jerry... you were the greatest soundtrack composer in Hollywood history, and we will all, always, miss you.
Sorry, wrong. Jerry was always doing something new, rather than paraphrasing all the great composers. He was a modernist at heart. He had a tenderness that he expressed in less obvious ways than Williams through a more sophisticated harmonic language. He was much hipper than Williams, who is great, of course.
When I watched Star Trek: The Next Generation for the first time I was in awe, and so very happy that they used this theme for the title sequence. It’s quintessential Trek at its finest.
@@ForceMaximus84 I thought Rosenman's score for IV was pretty good and even if you're not a fan of the Abrams Star Trek, you can't deny the fact that Michael Giacchino is a great composer in his own right

When the Next Generation came out 8 years later, I loved the idea of using this great theme, but disappointed they hadn't come up with a brand new theme for the brand new Star Trek series. I thought it was cheating... but good cheating.
"Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its ongoing mission to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life on new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before!"
Star Trek 2 had the theme for the new era as TOS came into their own in the movies. TMP theme is what defines Star Trek as a whole. A theme which signifies the revitalization of a franchise to silver screen and a theme that will be adopted into the brother series TNG.
All those times I was flying a shuttle or other ship in the Orbiter space sim, with this music playing in the background... It really gave one a sense of feel-good adventure. :-)
This is the grandest intro of all in Star Trek, compared to Star Wars. Illa's as a prelude, leads directly to this. Jerry Goldsmith boldly lead on where Alexander Courage has started. If you haven't listen to Star Trek, the Motion Picture, you are definitely missing out.

The introduction was much improved in star trek 5. Here it just hits you at pace without any shading. The rest of the theme is almost perfect. The timing of some of the lead horn sounds a little off to me here.
